FUEL is dependent on your goodwill and support
FUEL is dependent on the goodwill and support of so many in the
Redeemer parish. This week we will fill 157 bags with groceries for
needy children – as we do every week for 10 Newton schools,
Epiphany and St. Stephen’s. Thank you to everyone, known and
unknown, who contributes food and/or time to FUEL. There are
drivers who pick up and drivers who deliver. There are sorters and
packers. There are specialists who re-package fruit, rice,
spaghetti, cereal. Fellowship is an important part of this effort
as much as the knowledge we are helping the underserved.
If you are interested in joining this effort, you probably know
someone who can tell you how much fun we have and how rewarding it
is. If not, please be in touch with Velura Perry.
Or just sign up here.
(All work is done wearing masks and maintaining social
distancing.)
Seeking Nominations For Vestry and Leadership Positions
Each year, the parish selects three new members of the Vestry,
together with delegates to the Diocese of Massachusetts and the
Charles River Deanery. These candidates are proposed for approval
by a Nominating Committee, composed of the three out-going Vestry
members, a church Warden and non-Vestry members of the parish. This
year’s Nominating Committee is seeking your input with respect to
members of the parish that you feel would strengthen and add vision
to our Vestry in the years to come, as well as candidates who can
represent us to and strengthen our relationship with the Charles
River Deanery and the Diocese of Massachusetts. Your input is
crucial to the Nominating Committee’s task of
Your input is crucial to the Nominating Committee s task of
identifying devout, thoughtful and energetic lay leaders who can
work with our clergy to guide the Redeemer as it grows in strength
and faith. The process is especially important this year as we
confront the many challenges posed by the COVID-19 virus
pandemic.
Please email this ballot or just write your suggestions in email
form to
[email protected] no later than November
10. If you are unsure which position to nominate someone for, feel
free to write down the person’s name and why you are nominating him
or her to any position of leadership at the Church. The Nominating
Committee will be submitting a slate of candidates to the Vestry in
December and will be published in January for a final vote by the
Parish at our Annual Meeting. If you have any questions about this
process, please feel free to contact any member of our committee
listed below. Additionally, we would welcome any thoughts that you
might wish to contribute concerning the needs of the church and the
sort of qualities that we should be considering in selecting
parishioners for these important posts. Nominating Committee:

Join us for our weekly meetings
On Thursday nights, from 7:30-8:45pm, we are having conversations
around race (and racism). The discussions, led by Debby Mills,
James Perry, Rev. Emily, and with Rev. Mike’s participation, cover
both intellectual information (new concepts, framework, and
history) as well as reflective questions (How does this relate to
or impact my own experience? What does this suggest for my own
behavior?). As one participant described it, “We are learning a
lot, and it is exciting!”
We are currently reading “Waking Up White” by Debby Irving
(currently in stock at Brookline Booksmith, or online at Bookshop
or Amazon). Our most recent conversations have focused on how we
can ensure the dignity of all people is respected and how our
learnings can be applied to our philanthropic activities.
It’s never too late to join the conversation! Each week Debby Mills
sends out the email with the Zoom link and reading assignments.
Please reach out to Debby if you would like to be on the email
list, or to Rev. Emily if you have questions or concerns.
