A spe- cial welcome to Nico Oberholzer who begins as a new entrant, Lotti Beach (Year 2) and her family, Baylee Harre—Smith (Year 3) and her family. We look forward to getting to know you all. Swim Weeks We will be running focussed swimming lessons twice a day for the first two weeks of school— dependent on weather and pool operation. All chil- dren are to please bring their togs and towel ( could be good to have 2 towels) and goggles. We also recommend long hair to be tied back and rash tops. Swimming Pool Due to the high school use, and a few operational problems at present we will be closing the pool this week for after school use as well as the weekend. We are very sorry for the inconvenience and will return to normal after Waitangi Day. I’d like to thank Ash, Nicky and especially Cath for maintaining the pool over the holiday period. This is a huge commitment and especially this year with the teething problems with the heating system. Sun Safe This term is a hat term. Please have the uniform hat which is a navy bucket hat. We have sun- screen readily available for the children to use. If you prefer you may send along your own sun- screen with your child. Heat Care With the high temperatures due this week we would like all children to bring water bottles. It could even pay to freeze these overnight. We will be op- erating the air conditioners in the classrooms as well as in the library for lunchtimes. Yoghurts can be named and brought to the office to store in the fridge if required. Weka / Fruit Break Room Weka will be having a ‘Feed& Read’ break at approximately 10.00am. Please ensure the chil- dren bring a peice of fruit or veg with them each day. Choir Next week I will be asking for those children wishing to be a part of the school choir in 2018. Nortje has kindly made herself available again. Please discuss your child’s participation with them so that parent and child are at a agreed consensus for being in- volved in the choir this year. Hi Vis Vests Bus students will be issued their vests. Bus students must wear these. Non bus students—if you would like your child to be issued with their high-vis vest for travelling to and from school please let the office know. Dropping off & picking up children from School Please collect your children from the school side of the road—if you have to park on the other side of the road we ask that parents escort children across. As you can appreciate we do not have a designated or manned crossing and at 3.00pm it is very congested. All children must leave the school via the main gate. Bikers must walk their bike out to the footpath and along to the 2nd gate before riding (unless children are on the road with a parent). Please note that Police recommend that children under 10 years of age should not ride on the road unless accompanied by an adult riding with them. Consent forms The updated 2018 consent forms will be sent home this week. Only one form is needed per family. Please return them as soon as possible. Family Accounts School donations and stationery costs will be worked out and invoiced to families over the next week. Jewellery and Make-up at School Waikari School policy is that NO jewellery or make- up is to be worn to school unless of cultural or reli- gious significance with a written request to wear, with the exception of sleepers or stud ear rings. Calendar on Website The school calendar is on the website with tentative dates already included—remember these are sub- ject to changes.
