Smarter: Focuses most on Technology, Data, ICT solutions, and System modeling and management. Smarter Cities function more effectively and efficiently. Typically the focus is upon the systems that make cities work (e.g., transportation, energy, water, and government services).

Liveable: Focuses more on Urban design/Planning, Architecture, Aesthetics, Public Policy, and more effective government. Livability is about creating attractive, sustainable, and healthy places that are good for people and the environment.

The City Sounding Board is the central idea is to generate an agile resource that will help bridge the gap between traditional City Governance, research, and the citizen.

The City Sounding Board would operate within a set of Character Areas, representing a coherent expression of local diversity across the social, economic, and cultural spheres. The spatial areas they cover range from 10 hectares to 25 hectares.

The process will comprise sequential workshops will focus on the following tasks[a] establish the collective value system for the character area [b] express a long term vision/shape of success[c] articulate qualities that would evidence this [d] what are the disconnects/issues that block the achievement of this future.

Framework for Collaborative Urbanism

Key Performance Indicators: Process and Outcomes

• KPIs to assess progress of the design

process in partner cities

• An evaluation of public input and

measureable interface between

stakeholders.

• A record about new solutions and ideas

and whether there were meaningful

efforts to connect technological solutions

with public policy, services or

infrastructural change.

• A measure of the effect of policy change

if it in fact occurs.
