Church Sacred Covenant Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God, to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Saviour; and, on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, we do now in the presence of God, angels and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another, as one body in Christ.
We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to walk together in Christian love; to strive for the advancement of this church in knowledge and holiness; to give it a place in our affections, prayers and services above every organization of human origin; to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline, and doctrine; to contribute cheerfully and regularly, as God has prospered us, towards its expenses, for the support of a faithful and evangelical ministry among us, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the Gospel throughout the world. In case of difference of opinion in the church, we will strive to avoid a contentious spirit, and if we cannot unanimously agree, we will cheerfully recognize the right of the majority to govern.
We also engage to maintain family and secret devotion; to study diligently the word of God; to religiously educate our children; to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintance; to walk circumspectly in the world; to be kind and just to those in our employ, and faithful in the service we promise others; endeavoring in the purity of heart and good will towards all men to exemplify and commend our holy faith.
We further engage to watch over, to pray for, to exhort and stir up each other unto every good word and work; to guard each other’s reputation, not needlessly exposing the infirmities of others; to participate in each other’s joys, and with tender sympathy bear one another’s burdens and sorrows; to cultivate Christian courtesy; to be slow to give or take offense, but always ready for reconciliation, being mindful of the rules of the Saviour in the eighteenth chapter of Matthew, to secure it without delay; and through life, amid evil report, and good report, to seek to live to the glory of God, who hath called us out of darkness into his marvelous light.
When we remove from this place, we engage as soon as possible to unite with some other church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God's Word.
Praise the LORD, Saints!
Somewhere the sun is still shining on while the dark and gloom of Coronavirus lingers. I’m sure many of you are tired of hearing about it, talking about it, and going through the changes that have forced a new way of living. We will be sure to weather this storm if we keep our eyes stayed on the LORD. He is certainly watching over us and for that I am truly thankful.
I believe we will be better, stronger and wiser following this episode in history. As Christians we’ve had to always adjust on the fly because there are always challenges to our faith. The temptations, trials and tribulations are going to always come out of nowhere but never as a surprise, because we have been given advanced notice about times such as these. The more we pay attention to the Word of God, the better
prepared we are for the different stages of life.
Life has been given to us abundantly. We are to make the best of every moment and be sure to praise God
as we go through. We are in the process of kingdom advancement and the journey provides visuals of scenery that we never expected. If we look at the scenery closely, we will see the wonderous works of the LORD. We find the greatness of God in all things. Coronavirus cannot hide the glory of the LORD. The deaths that have occurred from Covid-19 cannot hide His glory. The heartache, pain, suffering and disillusionment cannot and will not hide the glory of our GOD.
Think about it for a moment. Hasn’t He wiped away tears that seemed to flow forever? Was it Him who healed your body from any given sickness? Think about it. Did He or did He not open doors closed in our faces? Wasn’t it Him who bore our burdens of oppression, racism, hatred and mistreatment? If God has brought us through all of that, He will still bring us through this Covid-19 also.
While we wait on God, we have some things to work on. We can start with harmonious living among our people. As that newness takes hold on us, we should be raising the educational desires, encourage positive pursuits and govern the success of our children. Let’s not forget the importance of establishing and producing security measures for our elders who may suffer from a lack of knowledge in areas of finance and help them in maintaining valuable assets. All in all, we must pray about the constant loneliness many of us feel because of the anger, jealousy, and distrust we suffer within our race. Not just within the Black race, my beloved, but this human race as well.
While we wait on God, God is waiting on us to do our part. When we do for the very least of them, we have done it for the LORD. God has allowed the enemy of coronavirus to stop True Love in its tracks to
pause, ponder and prepare for His Godly purpose. We cannot worry about what the world is preparing for, when it is imperative that we work on us.
Yours because of Christ Jesus Yours in Christ,
Pastor H. B. Robinson, Jr.
God bless.
