Rotating Mural #02 - Artist Troy Wandzel STATEMENT Through conversations and dialogue with local neighborhoods, there seems to be a disconnect between the art of the community and the community itself. The opportunity to contribute to a neighborhood mural, is ideal for bridging that gap. I have been living in and documenting the city of Savannah through portraiture for almost twenty years. My process of painting and ability to render the subject from life, allows me the opportunity to paint the people of the community. view more work at http://troywandzel.tumblr.com/ ROPOSAL FOR MURAL at Habersham & 34 th Street June 2012 The artist proposal for the existing Habersham/34th mural project includes; multiple portrait sessions of the local community in a crowd-like format, the "crowd" will be rendered as a field of flowers spanning the lower 1/3rd of existing mural (leaving Katherine Sandoz image intact), also including random figures throughout the landscape. Quantity of people 50 (10 a day, 5 days of painting). Men, women, children, all shapes and sizes. The portraits within the flowers will be life sized heads and smaller, to fit within the current mural. Troy has already done a similar project for a documentary where he painted 24 portraits in 24 hours. He had a sign up sheet 5 days prior and 200 people signed up. So we don't feel that will be a problem to get people to show up. We'll have people in the community sign up prior, starting next week. We'll have tents set up to block the sun for people sitting for the artist to make it more confortable for participants. We will beging painting mid June. This is at the 34th and Habersham mural wall, so this will stay up for approximately 4 months until the next artists proposal to paint over this mural.
