    Trombone Basics

    Slide Positions

The trombone differs from all other brass and woodwind instruments inthe area of fingerings or in the case of trombone, slide positions. On atrumpet, when a valve is pressed, a fixed amount of tubing is added tothe airway. This is not the case with the slide trombone. The playermust find the correct position by listening and following general rules ofslide positions. There are 7 different slide positions.
