The Chimes
June 2019
Trinity United Methodist Church 75 East High Street, Mount Gilead, Ohio 43338
We received new members on Sunday, 5/26.
The Bible says that we who believe in Jesus make up his body, the Church. The Bible also calls us the Bride of Christ.
For all who are members of Trinity United Methodist Church in Mount Gilead, we stood before the church or gathered congregation and we made commitments to the Lord and one another. Those commitments were as follows: That we truly believe in Jesus as our personal Savior and Lord.
That we have received Him and committed our lives to live for Him.
Our commitment to the Lord and to one another was also to support our church fellowship with:
Our PRAYERS Our PRESENCE Our GIFTS Our SERVICE and Our WITNESS
Jesus loves His body and His bride. His commitment to us was manifest on the cross where he died to make us his spotless bride. He rose from the dead to prove his commitment was real, genuine and effective. In our commitment to Jesus, let us be in prayer for our church and our community. Let us be faithful in our church attendance. May we be obedient in our giving. Let us be diligent in serving the Lord. Let us be witnesses for our Lord and Savior. To Jesus be all the praise!
May the Lord richly bless His body and His bride as we serve Him!
Pastor Jeff
P. S. If you would like to become a member of Trinity please let Pastor Jeff know. Thank you.
Community Outdoor Service - The Interchurch Council is again sponsoring a Community Outdoor Service to be held at the Mt. Gilead State Park on Sunday, 7/28 at 11:00 a.m. Please note there will be no services or Sunday School at Trinity that morning. Plan on meeting at the State Park that morning. Bring your lawn chairs, sunscreen and a dish to share for the meal following the service.
Tornado Kits Thank you to those who have purchased Tornado Kits for Midwest. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. Those who receive these kits also appreciate your
generosity as they try to piece their life back together. The display case in the Narthex shows what goes into a Tornado Kit. Items to be used to save what valuables they can and items to help them clean up the mess left by the tornado.
We will continue to collect for the Tornado Kits until June 23rd. Order forms are located in the Narthex, Upper Room table and Office counter. Thank you again for the great support you give to those in need and the Midwest Mission Distribution Center.
What Rain Reveals
Unless you’re a pluviophile (someone who loves rain), a stretch of sunshine-free days can seem drab and dreary. To make South Korea’s long monsoon season more colorful, art students created murals on some Seoul sidewalks with hydrochromic paint. It’s invisible on dry surfaces, but as soon as water hits, vibrant images appear. Rain transforms gray pavement into bright scenes of fish, whales and turtles.
Life’s storms, whether literal or figurative, can dampen our enthusiasm and even challenge our faith. Yet adversity often reveals God’s true colors — and ours. No matter what clouds pass overhead, God remains perfect, loving and steadfast. And by praising God “rain or shine,” we, as his artwork, reveal that our Creator and his every brushstroke are trustworthy.

TUESDAY BIBLE STUDY AT SAMES & COOK 3:00-4:00 pm
The Sames and Cook Bible Study will be finishing up the
book by Liz Curtis Higgs – The Bad Girls of the Bible. In July we will begin Rich in the Things that Count the Most by James W. Moore.
While we may or may not be wealthy when it comes to material things, James W. Moore says, every one of us can be rich in the things that count the most. True happiness, fulfillment, and wealth come from knowing that God is with us, and from being grateful for all of the blessings God has given us. Through Scripture and compelling stories of faith, the author invites us in this book to explore the real riches in our lives, those things that will last and endure, that won’t rust or corrode or become boring or go out of style.”

Measuring Up - While hanging out with her father in his workshop, a preschooler tried to imitate him by using a tape measure. When she couldn’t quite reach the distance she wanted to measure between herself and an object, she moved the object closer to her!
No matter how much we try to finagle God’s rules, his standard of holiness won’t be moved. As sinful beings, we can’t reach that standard on our own. We’re stuck without Jesus’ grace. Thank God that he helps us measure up!

Wherever You Go
Graduations bring a commencement, or beginning, of new things.
In 1990, Dr. Seuss published Oh, the Places You’ll Go! This popular graduation gift tells in Seuss’ inimitable style of all life’s possible ups and downs, twists and turns. There will surely be excitement and slumps, fun and loneliness, purpose and confusion. And, yes, fear: “There are some [things], down the road between hither and yon, that can scare you so much you won’t want to go on.”
The sheer determination of the storybook’s life-traveler moves him beyond trouble and fear. But God’s children don’t have to go it alone. Life cannot take us anywhere God hasn’t been first. Furthermore, he walks beside us on every winding path and around every corner.
Graduates — and all Christians — can trust in the promise of Joshua 1:9 (NIV): “Be strong and courageous … for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”

UNITED METHODIST WOMEN NEWS
Happy June!
Our Guest Salad Luncheon is Monday, 6/17 at noon. Our speaker is our own Jodi Hayes, Director of United Way of Morrow County. She will share ways we can further our mission to help women, children and youth. Invitations have been sent to our neighboring District UMWs. If you have a friend that would like to come, feel free to invite them. Just RSVP to the church office or text or call me at (419) 560-3293 by Monday, 6/10. Please bring a salad to share. We provide chicken salad, table service and beverages. This is always such a good time!
If you missed it; Congratulations to Ruby Jackson and Gary Begeman for receiving on UMW Sunday, our special recognition for their mission work at the church.
Congratulations also to Anne Cotton and Susan Keightly for receiving 2018 Reading Program Certificates of Recognition, at our Spring District Meeting. In addition, Trinity UMW received awards for being a Rainbow Unit, a 5 star unit, and Mission Today Award by completing the mission, program, membership and pledge requirements. Remember to encourage others to join us as we need to increase our membership by 1 in 2019 to complete this year’s goal.
Thank you to Della Mosier and Phylis Miller for arranging our tour of the Morrow County Historical Society. What a wealth of history they have to share.
We still need someone to volunteer to do a program from our program book for our September meeting. Let me know if you are interested.
Thank you and God Bless, Marilyn Turner

who they are “In Memory of” or “In Honor of”. The cost of the flowers is $30. Please mark “Altar Flowers” in memo line of your check made out to Trinity UMC.
