THIRTEENTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST August 19, 2018 IN OUR PRAYERS: God invites us to cast all our cares and worries upon Him because He cares for us. Today we cast upon God those who are sick, awaiting surgery or recovering, especially Duane Castle, Gunard Heikkila, Randy Windels, Lillian Wallgren, Yvonne Huttunen, Connie Wallgren, Kristine Barker, Ralph Schwartz, Dan Cresswell, Paul Ebnet, Ron Ruther, Greg Mickelson, Jann Lee, Jim Wallgren, Madella Siirila, Susan Hintzman, Clarence Siebels, Duane Matz and Nicky Names. AS WE GATHER: “At one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord” (Ephesians 5:8). This nugget from today’s Epistle gets to the heart of the Gospel: Jesus Christ has rescued you from the darkness of sin and made you a child of the light! And when does that take place? “Now,” says Paul! Now that Christ has died, now that Christ is risen, now that His Word has claimed you, you are God’s own. Now be who you are! The light of Christ will shine on you today in this time of hearing His Word and receiving His Sacrament. As darkness scatters, let us come into the light, worshiping our Savior with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. READINGS: Proverbs 9:1–10, Ephesians 5:6–21, John 6:51–69 IMPORTANT INFORMATION LUTHERAN ISLAND CAMP SERVICE AND PICNIC: Everyone is invited to join us for worship at Lutheran Island Camp TODAY at 10:30 a.m. A picnic meal will be served for a free-will offering, with a suggested donation of $7.
