MESSAGE FROM THE SENIOR WARDEN

We are starting a new chapter in the life of trinity Episcopal Church. As we said farewell to Father Charles and Chrissy, I would like to thank everyone who con-tributed and made their send-off reception a blessed event. As we reflect on the past two years with Father Charles, we marvel at how far Trinity has come in the renovation of the church buildings. We remember how the church building was fall-ing in around us and after three million dollars of renovations, we emerged with a beautiful refurbished Sanctuary, Parrish Hall and Bell Tower. We will dedicate the Bell Tower on Foundation Sunday, November 13, 2016.

I recall hearing the saying “People come into our lives for a reason and a season.” Father Charles came to Trinity to spearhead the refurnishing of our church and now that his mission has been completed for us, he has moved on to other Godly pursuits. Let us not fret in his going, but appreciate the time we had together. We now welcome Father Jim Sell, our supply Priest who will take us into the New Year, January 2017.

As we continue our “grow” campaign, let us continue to ”Grow” in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, while the Father and the Holy Spirit lead us to growing our Youth ministry, Christian Formation, Godly Play, Adult Bible Study, the Music ministries, and Community outreach. The Saint Cecelia Music Guild is in the final stages of presenting the “Phantom of the Opera” reception, film and organ concert on October 29, 2016. We hope to see all of you there and that you will invite your friends.

As we start our stewardship pledge season, let us contribute to trinity and its ministries, generously and without reservation. We have three more months in this year and God’s work to be done. Give as if you are giving to our Lord Jesus Christ, who laid down his life for us so that we may live under His Holy guidance and direc-tion.

May the Lord be with you.

I am,

Randolph Boothe-Pharr Senior Warden

FROM THE STEWARDSHIP COMMITTEE

DON’T FORGET!!

RESTORATION PROJECT UPDATE

The renovation work in the church and bell tower is complete. Other than some minor paint

touchup, there are no outstanding work items.

The planned partial brick wall work along the west side of Parish House (Commodore Theatre)

was begun and the wall was found to be in very fragile and unstable condition. The footing originally

consisted of brick and oyster shell mortar. Over several hundred years the soft brick and mortar foot-

ing that was in the ground had dissolved and the wall was just balancing on top. Except for some

remaining concrete from the apartment building that was next door, the wall just falls over when

touched. We have had to use plywood as we move along the parish house to prevent damage.

Fortunately the wall repairs were included in the description of work that is eligible for tax credits. The

relatively limited repair has turned into a larger and more expensive building project.

ALTAR FLOWERS

First, let me say a sincere Thank You to everyone who helped in any way with the re-

cent receptions at Trinity. Your time and dedication is very much appreciated by everyone

involved and particularly by family and friends.

FALL FEST IS COMING UP ON THE 21st! Please place your pansy order and make plans

to join us for lunch and/or the spaghetti dinner. Linda has tickets for sale in her office and

also for the Phantom event on Oct. 29. If you feel “techy” you can order tickets online. Just

go to www.trinity-portsmouth.org and click on the link. It’s really easy! This year we will

again offer customers the ability to pay by credit card as well as cash or check.

Elegant Elephant is still taking donations—please see guidelines posted on the bulletin

board or call me at 675-4381 if you have questions or need a pick-up. Also, if you have

something you think would be good to include in the Silent Auction, call Gracie Peacock!

We will also need baked goods to sell at Fallfest! Cookies, cakes, breads, pies—

whatever is your specialty! It would be helpful if you gave us a suggested price and if you

make cookies, to package them in 3’s or 5’s or a dozen with your suggested price. A num-

ber of people have also agreed to make soups, chili, and other ready-to-eat foods for the

sale.

Finally, if you can help serve during lunch or help with clean-up, please sign up on

sheet on the Parish Hall bulletin board. Any help would be appreciated.

Lets make this year’s Fall Fest a big success! All profits go toward the ECW projects

both within and without Trinity’s walls!
