Trinidad State Junior CollegeWGB Mini GrantPresented by Erin Comden and Laura Gowen What we plannedProject 1: Girls in the Middle (GIM) Conference GIM will focus on middle-school (7th and 8th Grade) girls and includes hands-on workshops that highlight non-traditional careers. Project 2: Career in Technical Education (CTE) Workshops TSJC will organize and host hands-on workshops to introduce middle-school boys and girls to careers in CTE. Project 3: Her World Conference TSJC will transport 30 junior and senior girls to Denver at Devry University to explore careers in STEM. Project 4: Area High School Visits The Recruitment Specialist will share career earning potential and statistics, as well as video clips of non-traditional gender careers. Project 5: In-Service Speaker TSJC will contract a gender equity expert to debase hidden biases faculty, staff, industry and business leaders may have towards students in non-traditional career roles. Some comments from the dayIt was fun. It taught me new stuff and I learned of new careers.I LOVED IT!Very fun and educational!It was an enriching amazing experience. They dont have a high level of content about equity in the classroom but they have a high level to learn about equity in the classroom.

People thought I thought I was doing the right thing but now I realize I need to change my classroom strategies

She felt as though it was a nice blend on helping them think things through and strategies to implement.

Where to we go? 3 Recommendations1. To work with the faculty and staff and host an in house book session to discuss and deepen their practice at the local level with not a lot of financial investment on the part of the collegeWhistling VivaldiMindset 2. Pulling together a small group of people (like an equity committee) to charge them with leadership roles and responsibility Look at webinars on the NAPE website every 2 weeks or once a month3. To continue professional development and pull together faculty w/data (who are teaching non-trad classes who are struggling to get numbers for non-trad) for a day long data retreat and summitA.
