Opening Of Facilities and Grounds on the 12th May!!!

We are delighted to announce that we officially open our fabulous club complex and pitches on Sunday the 12th of may at 6pm. Meath will play local rivals Louth in a senior football challenge and this match will be both teams last match before they start their quest for leinster and All Ireland honors.

Well folks, it’s time to let bygones be bygones.  Or is it?  Well yes, it is.

Can anyone dare forget the Leinster final on the 11th of July 2010! The famous goal scored by Joe Sheridan was it a goal? Many in Meath recon it was more of a touch down or a Try!!!!!!

Louth were in front by two points at the 70 minute mark. With three minutes additional time to be played, Meath threw everything at the ‘wee’ county. A high ball in towards the goal mouth was caught by Joe Sheridan who turned and shot. The ball somehow was kept out by Louth. It dropped to Sheridan again who tripped over the Louth full back Dessie Finnegan, while also being rolled over by goalkeeper Neil Gallagher and somehow the ball ended up in the back of the net. The goal was awarded and Meath won the Leinster Senior Football title for 2010.

Daylight robbery and the Meath lads were never forgiven. Every Meath v Louth game since then has been eagerly awaited and this one will be no different.

Football UpdateAnother Defeat In A Football League

Trim 0-7 Rathkenny 1-9

Trim intermediate football team suffered another defeat in the A football league at a bitterly cold St Loman’s Park on Easter Sunday morning. Playing against a very strong wind Trim started brightly

with a great point from Mark Gilsenan in the fifth minute, Rathkenny leveled the scores with a score from the evergreen Donal Curtis. A free conceded by Trim full back Steven Farrell gave Ratkenny the lead in the tenth minute and after this free Ratkenny took control for the remainder of the half tagging on another six points to Trims solitary point before the half time whistle.

Half time score Trim 0-2 Rathkenny 0-8.

The second half started as the first half finished with Rathkenny gaining the upper hand in most sectors of the field and in the first ten minutes scored 1-1 without reply from the Town side. These scores left Trim with a mountain to climb and alas this mountain proved to be too steep. Points from play from Paul Gilsenan,Ciaran O’Rourke and Mark Gilsenan and two frees scored by Keith Hamilton in the last twenty minutes gave Trim a final tally of seven points. Overall this was another disappointing result and performance from Trim, the Longwood contingent viewing the match yesterday will have left the grounds licking their lips in anticipation of taking on Trim in the championship first round in just a couple of weeks time. If Trim cannot up their performance Longwood will have nothing to fear.

Meath Intermediate Football championship, round 1 result, Trim 1-11, Longwood 0-12.

The summer is nigh. The evenings are getting long. It’s time to sort out the men from the boys. Yes you guessed, its championship time.

Trim has had a dismal year to date with four defeats out of four in the league and Longwood with three wins and a draw in their league. So form would suggest that the lads from the Wood would take to honours but Trim had other aspirations and went on to win by two points in a tight game at Summerhill last Saturday evening. The scoring statics tell a fair story of the game, Apart from the nil-nil at the start, the teams were level eight times during the game. Trim went ahead on six occasions during the game, consequently forcing the pace but could only stretch the elastic once to four points after scoring the goal in the second quarter only to be pegged back by four consecutive Longwood points before half time. Six of Trim’s points came from frees while four of Longwood’s came from frees outlining the importance of this aspect of any game. Both defences were excellent throughout. Probably the winning of the game was the stout defending by the Trim lads in the final six minutes of the game which forced four Longwood wides and of course the evergreen Trim goalkeeper Brendan Murphy who pulled off four magnificent and telling saves throughout.

Longwood applied the early pressure but did not make it tell with two wides in the first two minutes. Trim got the scoring under way in the fifth minute when Paul Flanagan sped up the right wing and hit a long ball into Neil Heffernan who turned his marker and fired over. Longwood levelled in the ninth minute but James Toher put Trim in front again with a pointed free after he was fouled when he got on the end of a Ciaran Joyce cross. The Wood then hit two points but was quickly followed by a Trim point in the sixteenth minute after Mark Gilsenan robbed the advancing defender and then drew the foul. James Toher capitalised with the pointed free. The Reds went one up again when Mark Gilsenan pointed. Damo McGee intercepted a Longwood pass in his half back line. He passed up along the left wing to Ciaran Joyce. His return pass to the advancing McGee split the opposition defence and Gilsenan capped a great move with the score. Trim were gaining the ascendency at this stage with stout defending. A sweeping move from the Reds in the twenty second minute started with a masterful block by David Foley in the half back line. He found Frankie Murphy in the middle of the field who unleashed a long ball into the square where James Toher came out of the melee to toe poke the ball to the net. Trim looked in control. A gap had opened with a margin of four points  but great resilience and character from Longwood saw them hit four points on the trot in the six minutes leading up to the break leaving the sides going in level pegging at 1-4 to 0-7.

Within three minutes of the restart Trim had two points on the board. Ronan Fitzsimons won the ball from the throw in. He found mid field partner Frankie Murphy who was fouled when advancing forward. James Toher was on the mark with the resulting free. Fitzsimons was involved again for the second point when after fielding from the kick out he hit long to James Toher who flicked on the in running Damo McGee who fired over to put his side two points ahead.  The Wood responded with two points within three minutes to keep in touch. Both sides then swapped points at

the ten minute mark with James Toher hitting Trim’s from a free kick. Trim failed to take advantage of good defending and attacking play with two wides half way through the half. Longwood then went one up with a point in the sixteenth. The Reds responded quickly with two points. The first was a quick free to Michael Lowther who fired over and the second an excellent effort from Frankie Murphy after great foraging by Shane Kennedy. Longwood pulled the game back to level pegging for the eight times with a point with six minutes left. With proceedings poised on a knife edge the experienced Trim side held their composure the better with two points at the death while their opponents hit four wides and thus squandering possible victory. Trim’s final points were both hit by Michael Lowther. The first came from a brave interception by Ciaran Joyce who was then fouled. The final point was a gem from Lowther who hit the free from the left hand sideline forty meters out.

Trim’s goal keeper Brendan Murphy had an outstanding game. He pulled off three fine saves half way through the second half to keep his side in contention.

Trim will be in second round action in five days time when they take on Kells on Friday evening in Simonstown.

The Trim team was: Brendan Murphy; Colm O'Flaherty, Robert Brennan, Maurice Power; David Foley, Stephen Farrell, Shane O’Connor; Ronan Fitzsimons, Frankie Murphy, Paul Flanagan, Ciaran Joyce, Damien McGee; Mark Gilsenan, James Toher, Neil Heffernan. Hamilton’s eight not enough as Junior A’s loose in championship first round.

Meath Junior A football championship round 1 result, Trim 0-12, Cortown 3-14. Trim’s youthful second string, bolstered by the experienced Keith Hamilton, Eoin Kelly and Gary Clarke put up a great show against Cortown’s first team at Summerhill on Saturday evening last. The Trim lads forced the pace earlier on but their more experienced and more physical opponents dominated in the second and third quarter during which time the three goals were scored which was ultimately the difference between the teams in the end. Keith Hamilton was Trim’s star turn with his significant tally of eight points while he was ably assisted by James Cullen, Patrick Lennon, Andrew O’Brien, Colm McGrath, Eoin Kelly and CiaranO’Rourke.  The Trim team was: Mark Daly, Sean Foley, Eoin Kelly, Patrick Lennon; Andrew O’Brien, Darryl Phelan, Karl O ‘Dwyer, James Andrews, Keith Hamilton; James Foley, Sean McGee, Ciaran O’Rourke; Colm McGrath, Gary Clarke, James Cullen, The Trim subs were: Sean Marron, Brian Flynn, Robert Sweeney, and Shane Callaghan.

Senior Team Win In Baconstown

Final Score Trim 1-8 Na Fianna 0-9

Trim senior hurling team recorded their first win of the season in Div 1 of the league in Baconstown on St Patrick’s morning. This was a much needed win for Trim after defeats in the first round of the league and in the Davis Cup.

On a very wet pitch both sides struggled to gain the upper hand in the first quarter with Damo McGee and Barry Slevin trading two points apiece  to leave the sides level after fifteen minutes. A point from Ryan Andrews from play put Trim one up after nineteen minutes. Two more Slevin frees gave Na Fianna the upper hand after twenty five minutes. Another McGee free had the side’s level again after twenty seven minutes. In the last three minutes of the first half both teams scored from play again from the two county men Damo McGee and Barry Slevin.

Trim started the second half in whirl wind fashion scoring one goal and a point in the first ten minutes from the stick of youngster Colm McGrath. Na Fianna were now on the back foot and with James Toher dominating g at center back  Na Fianna could not break down the town teams rearguard. Barry Slevin reduced the lead to two points from well taken frees in the seventeenth and twenty second minute. Trim were now playing minor star Luke Moran as a third midfielder and the youngster mopped up and cleared a lot of ball in the last ten minutes. Damo McGee scored two more points, one from play and one from a free after new boy to the red jersey Eolann Harington was fouled. These scores restored the four point lead with five minutes to go. Na Fianna chucked the kitchen sink at it in the last five minutes but could not get the scores required to win the match. The last two scores of the game came from Barry Slevin frees.

This was a very spirited performance from a very young Trim team with an average age of just twenty. Aaron Winters made his first senior appearance in goals and played very well. In a very good

team performance Trim had many stars, David Foley was rock solid at full back, Shane Downes and John Cunningham gave little away, James Toher and Eolann Harrington swept up everything in the half back line, Ryan Andrews and Darren Phelan kept the mid field ticking and up front Damo and Sean McGee, Colm McGrath and James Andrews all put in good work in each half.

Team: Aaron Winters, Shane Downes, David Foley, John Cunningham, Eolann Harrington, James Toher, Jamie Lee, Ryan Andrews, Darrell Phelan, Colm McGrath, Damo McGee, John Redmond, Luke Moran, Sean McGee and James Andrews,

Another Win In Senior Hurling League

Heffernan and Andrews inspire Hurlers to Victory

Dunderry 2-9 Trim 1-14

Neil Heffernan and James Andrews scored 1-13 of Trim’s total score to inspire the Trim senior hurlers to victory in Div 1 of the hurling league in Dunderry on Sunday morning. The other point was a wonderful score from the fifty yard sideline from Trevor “The Goose” Tool.

This was the town side’s second victory in a row in the league and it sets Trim up nicely going into the break for football championship. Trim started this match brightly and had two points on the board in the 4th and 9th minute before Dunderry scored their first score in the 12th minute. Both sides battled hard for possession on a very bad surface, the battle for possession was fiercely intense and to say that no quarter was given or asked for would be an understatement in this tough encounter. Kevin Dowd and Liam Dempsey were winning a lot of ball in the middle of the park for Dunderry and this possession led to Dunderry taking the lead with four unanswered points. Twenty minutes into the first half Trim were down by three points, at this stage Seam McGee was starting to take control at center back and Heffernan and Andrews were racking up the points. The sides went in level on six points apiece at the break. Dunderry had played with a strong wind in the first half so Trim had every reason to be happy with a drawn game at half time.

At the start of the second half disaster struck for the Trim side when Dunderry blasted the ball to the net and from the puck out won possession and pointed from thirty yards. Trim were now down by four points and needed somebody to sand up and be counted. Up stepped Heffernan and Andrews with 1-4 between them. 1-1 from Heffo and 3 points from Andrews without reply from Dunderry. The goal was a marvelous individual effort from” The Heff” he gained possession, turned his marker side stepped another man and blasted the ball to the top right had corner of the Dunderry net. Trim were now in control and with Darrel Phelan, John Cunningham and Darragh Kennedy feeding the forwards with plenty of ball Trim were on the way to victory. Andrews with another point gave Trim a four point lead on the 23rd minute. From the puck out Liam Dempsey fielded the ball and drove it goal wards, Steven Coogan caught Dempsey’s ball and rounded his man, Kevin Higgins the Trim full brought down Coogan and the resulting 25 meter free ended in the Trim Net. Dunderry were back in the game with just five minutes left on the clock, Heffernan 2 points, Andrews 1 point and Trevor “The Goose Tool with the best point of the game on the 50 yard line from an acute sideline angle. Trim were now four points up with two minutes left and two Dunderry frees completed the scoring.

This was a great victory for the Trim lads as they were short eight regular senior players but the lads that replaced them did very well, the regulars will have a big fight on their hands to get back the starting position.

Juniors Hurlers Remain Unbeaten

Our junior hurlers remain unbeaten in the junior hurling league with wins over Moylagh, Ratoath and a great win against Rathmoylan on Saturday the 6th April in St Loman’s Park Trim

Smith’s return bolsters junior hurlers with third win in league

The onset of Summer was clearly evident at St Loman’s park last Saturday evening last as the Trim’s second string of hurlers took the field against Rathmoylan. For the Trim supporters in attendance the sun kept shining throughout the game as their team put in a great performance to defeat their stubborn rivals by ten points. The main talking point as the young home team took to the pitch was the emergence of former star Alan Smith in the goalkeeper’s jersey and the return to action of Diarmuid Dempsey who donned the full back jersey. Alan, who as a teenager won an U’21 hurling medal in 1986 and then went on to win many senior hurling medals in the 1990′s still showed a keen eye for catching and pucking the sliothar and made a number of fine saves throughout the game while Diarmuid put in a solid performance at the heart of the defense. Age knows no boundaries.

The home side showed their intentions immediately from the throw in when after forty seconds a long ball in from Aaron Winters found the slick Colm McGrath who raced through the Rathmoylon traffic, shortened the grip on the hurley and flicked over a neat point. Three minutes later James Andrews fired over a free from the middle of the park after centre half back Luke Moran was fouled whilst defending stoutly. In the sixth minute the home side got another shot in the arm when centre forward Sean McGee hit a long high ball in from the right hand sideline only to be fumbled by the Rathmoylon  custodian and ending up in the net. Both sides swapped points in the following seven minutes with James Andrews landing a seventy for the Reds. Trim went nine points ahead with fine efforts from Trevor O’Toole and Darrel Phelan. The visitors made a revival of sorts when in the final nine minutes of the half when they clawed back two point ts to leave the half time score at 1-5 to 0-3.

The second half continued in the same vein with the Trim side hitting three unanswered points to forge ahead by eight points with seven minutes of the half gone. The first of these points was a superb strike from Trevor O’Toole as he split the posts from the left hand sideline after he gained possession after fine work from John Redmond and James Andrews. Garret White hit the second and third from frees. Rathmoylon pointed in the eight minute but was cancelled out by a Colm McGrath effort four minutes later. The score was reduced to six points mid was through the half with two points from the visitors. Both sides traded points with Garret White on target for the homesters. In the twenty third minute James Andrews, with his dander up after being struck off the ball, swept up the sliothar in mid field, powered through the opposition defense to fire over a great effort. Rathmoylon reduced the deficit to six points in the twenty eight minute but Trim’s burly full forward Garret White hammered home the nail in Rathmoylon’s coffin with a goal and point in extra time to leave the final score at 2-12  to 0-8.

This sterling performance leaves Trim heading the table after three wins.

Best for Trim were the aforementioned scorers and centre half back Luke Moran. A responsible position for the young seventeen old but he held it with stout shoulders. Luke comes from good stock as he is a grand nephew of the Johnny and Noel Moran, two of the stars from the great Trim hurling side on the 1950’s who brought home eight Meath senior hurling titles for the club. Johnny is still hale and hearty and we wish him well after his illness in 2012.

The Trim team was: Alan Smith, Paul Mullen, Diarmuid Dempsey, James Cullen, James Foley, Luke Moran, Aaron Winters, Darryl Phelan, James Andrews, John Redmond, Sean McGee, Rory McGrath, Colm McGrath, Garret White, and Trevor O’Toole. Subs:  Jamie Hackett, Patrick Lenehan.

The Trim scorers were: Garret White 1-2, James Andrews 0-3, Sean McGee 1-0, Colm McGrath 0-2, Trevor O’Toole 0-2, Aaron Winters 0-2, and Darryl Phelan 0-1.

Trim Senior Camogie team got the championship off to the best possible start with a hard fought victory over Dunboyne on Tuesday 23rd of April. This was a tough away fixture for the Trim girls and they really had to battle to gain the two points on offer. Battling qualities in one thing the Trim girls have in abundance and when Dunboyne put on the pressure Trim were always able to get the vital scores to keep the Dunboyne team at bay. Trim Leading by 1-4 t0 0-4 at half time just about deserved to be in front. The two sides traded score for core in the second half with the Trim girls out scoring Dunboyne by 3-8 to 3-6 at the final whistle. This was an overall good performance from trim but as the say goals win games and in Lynn Winters Trim have a goal scoring super star. Lynn has been scoring vital goals for Trim for more years that she would care to remember, but when in trouble in matches and the Team needs a major more often than not Lynn Winters is the one to look to.The ever green Christine O’Brien is doing what she does best , scoring at will and contributed 1-5 in this match. Christine level of fitness and enthusiasm for the game is an example to all young players.

Trim scorers: Christine O Brien 1-5, Lynn Winters 2-0, Edel Guy 0-1, Katie Hackett 0-1, Shona White 0-1.

Boyle happy with Junior Camogie Challenge Match

Trim Junior Camogie team played Brownstown from Westmeath yesterday at St Loman’s park Trim, this was a Challenge match in Preparation for the start of the championship next Friday. Playing with a very strong wind in the first half Trim were leading by just one point at half time. The Trim girls could not contain the Brownstown outfit in the second half and eventually lost by 12 points. This was a great match to have before the girls play in the local derby against Dunderry next Friday. The team management sought this challenge against Brownstown because they operate in the intermediate division in Westmeath. Speaking after the match Manager Mark Boyle stressed the importance of playing against better teams in challenge matches and Mark also said that playing weaker teams than yourself you learn nothing. Mark concluded the conversation by saying we learned a lot about our team today a great exercise

U8 Boys play in Croke Park

Page 12: Trim G.A.A. Newsletter · Web viewTrim Senior Camogie team got the championship off to the best possible start with a hard fought victory over Dunboyne on Tuesday 23rd of April. This

Thursday the 4th April 2013 is a day that will live long in the memory of the Trim U8 Boys footballers. It was shortly after 10am when our team bus departed from our clubhouse and headed for Páirc an Chrócaigh, Baile Átha Cliath. The atmosphere on the bus was electric with 50 young Trim men and their coaches buzzing with excitement as we travelled to Croke Park where Davidstown/ Cournacuddy and Gusserane from Wexford awaited us in two 40 minute matches as part of the Leinster GAA Croke Park Activity Day. Our lads, having started training hard on those long, dark, cold Friday evenings back in February (in our nice, warm state of the art training hall...!), could not wait to get out onto the hallowed ground that is Croke Park, tie up the laces on their boots and don their red and white jerseys, proudly showing the Trim GAA crest, to represent their club, town and county.

To set the scene; we arrived in Croke Park in plenty of time, the sun was splitting the stones as we were directed to park our bus in a convoy of buses carrying teams from all over Leinster at the rear of the Cusack Stand. You could feel the excitement on the bus reaching fever pitch! The sea of colours of the different club jerseys only added to the excitement and everyone knew we were part of something special. Once we completed our brief team talk, we headed over to the Croke Park Museum where we were guided by our excellent tour guide Cian on a tour of the stadium, museum and interactive games area where the lads (and a coach or two...) put their skills to the test! The tour began in the cinema, with a short 20 minute film showing what happens behind the scenes in Croke Park on All-Ireland day. Next it was on to the museum, where we learned about the history of the Sam Maguire Cup. We were then brought throughout the stadium (warm-up areas, dressing rooms, players lounge and corporate area) before we finished the day by climbing to the top of the Upper Cusack stand for a panoramic view of Croke Park. We finished our tour with lunch in one of the dressing rooms.Final preparations were made and our two teams who would do battle against the teams from Wexford were brought down to the dressing rooms under the Cusack Stand. In the dressing room, each young face was a mixture of excitement and anticipation as we waited to be called for the game. The ball was hand passed around the warm-up area to calm the nerves, and then just before 3pm it was time to take the field. Out from the dressing room, down the tunnel, up the steps, onto the pitch to the loud cheers from the large crowd of Trim spectators who travelled and then in for the team photo. This was Croke Park just like on All-Ireland day.

The conditions were excellent, the Hogan stand was ablaze with glorious sunshine and was already full of Trim supporters by the time our teams reached their pitches. Approximately 100 mammy’s and daddy’s, brothers and sisters, and granny’s and grandad’s waited with anticipation to see their young men do Trim proud.

Both our teams performed brilliantly over the next 40 minutes and gave a great exhibition of score taking, defending, attacking and teamwork against our Wexford opponents. The lads had trained hard so far this year, and it was great to see them perform so well on the biggest stage of all. A special thanks must go to all the parents, grandparents, family and friends who travelled to Croke Park on the day to support the lads and who provided such vocal and passionate support throughout the games. After the games, we lined up to shake hands with our opponents and we were then brought over to the presentation area in the Hogan Stand. The team climbed the steps of the Hogan Stand where each player got the chance to lift a replica Sam Maguire cup and pose for photographs in front of some very proud (and very loud!) parents. Many thanks go to both Dudley Farrell & Colm Clear from Leinster GAA for putting on the Activity Day. It’s a wonderful initiative to give the football stars of the future a chance to play in Croke Park at such a young age. We arrived back in Trim just before 6pm, a tired but happy team after experiencing a day to remember. The day was not over as we all headed into Supermac’s, welcomed by all the players families for some well deserved chicken nuggets and chips. Each player left Supermac’s with a host of great memories to treasure for the years to come.

Hopefully the seeds will have been sown, that one day will result in some of these young men from Trim, wearing the ‘Red and White’ of Trim, and the ‘Green and Gold’ of Meath in Croke Park some day in the future...The Trim U8 teams who represented the club so well on April 4th were as follows:Adam Curran, Ben Gaffney, Callum O’Connell, Cillian Kirby, Cormac Doyle, Cormac Slattery, Darragh Cronin, George Douglas, James Gibney, Kevin Walsh, Luke Carolan, Max Sheridan, Michael Newman, Padraig Walsh, Shane McGrath, Tom Creagh.Andrew Brady, Braden Curley, Caelum Casserly, Conor Walsh, Dara Quigley, Darragh Heffernan, Donal Gilligan, Dylan Ganly, Eamonn Yeates, Eoghan Ryan, Eoin O’Reilly, Eoin Finnegan, James farrelly, Joe Bermingham, Josh Ayton, Seán Murray. Well done to all our players who took part in the first blitz of the season at Dunganny last Saturday 6th

April. We fielded three U8 teams, totaling 27 players, and the lads enjoyed great competitive games of football versus Skryne, Seneschalstown, Bective, Gael Colmcilles, Donaghmore/Ashbourne and Clann na Gael.

The Trim players took some great scores throughout the day and competed with pride, passion and hunger against strong opponents. For many of our players, it was their first time to take part in a blitz and all three U8 teams represented our club proudly. Meath star right half back and 2011-12 captain Seamus Kenny (see team photo) was suitably impressed with what he saw from the Trim players and had a good chat with them after their match which the young Trim men took a lot from. We look forward to seeing Seamus back in the green & gold jersey very soon and wish him well as he recovers from injury. Thanks to Maria Kealy and the rest of the crew at Meath Games Development for organizing this great day.

U10 Footballers Visit Croke Park

Our U10 football squad from 2011 made a trip to Croke Park last Sunday, the squad went on the Stadium and museum tour during the visit. A great day was had by all. Hopefully we will all be traveling to watch some of these lads play in the green and gold in Croke Park.

Trim U10 football squad took to the field on Saturday the 20th April in the community games blitz played in St Loman’s Park Trim. Only back Training for three weeks that lads and ladies combined team played great football and beat Dunshaughlin and Kilbride in their two matches. Under the guidance of Noel Dempsey, Sean McDonagh and Frank Kennedy the team played superb football in both matches, in fact the level of skill displayed by the boys and girls was a joy to watch. We look forward to watching the team in action during the summer

Trim U12 Footballers In Action

Our U12 Footballers Spring League 2013 is now underway. In this league we play 5 games against other clubs. The format is 2 games played simultaneously with between 9 and 11 players per side with unlimited substitutions and the combined scores counted. The idea of this league is to encourage players to learn and use the various skills and to enjoy playing against other clubs. To prepare for the league we arranged a challenge game against Na Fianna on Wednesday, 3rd April in Trim in which both Trim teams put in very encouraging performances. Our first competitive game was in Summerhill on Wednesday, 9th April. Both games were close with Summerhill edging it over the 2 games. Next up was Clann na nGael at home on Saturday, 13th April. In both these games the Athboy lads came out on top in tough conditions. Despite these early defeats our lads are making good progress and showing great enthusiasm. If there was a competition for highest numbers turning out for their club Trim would be top dogs by a mile! It is also great to have so many parents and families along to encourage our players.

Spring League 2013. Trim travelled to play Skryne on Saturday, 20th April. Once again we played 2 simultaneous games. In a much improved performance, against very strong opposition, we were beaten in 1 game but managed to draw the other game.

Our next game is this Saturday, 27th April at home to Na Fianna. We are meeting at 2:15pm for a 3pm start. This will allow anyone ample time to get to Croke Park for the Meath game.

On Wednesday, 24th April we had Kildare senior footballer, Brian Flanagan, as our guest trainer. This was a great session for the almost 40 players who showed up. Brian put the lads through some great drills and games and spent time answering questions for the players. Brian commented afterwards that he was very impressed with the players and their attention and enthusiasm.

Training continues every Wednesday at 6.30pm. All players welcome. For further details contact Diarmuid Buckley (086 9312908), Loman Dempsey (087 2532728) or Dermot Bolger (087 2460148).

U14 Football Update

Final Score Trim 14-6 Clan na nGael 3-1

Trims U14 footballers had a comfortable win against Clan na nGael in a sunny St Loman’s parks Trim on Saturday afternoon.

Trim got off the mark early with goals from Gavin Griffin, Aaron Lynch and Fergal O’Kane. Clan na nGeal hit back with two goals in the middle of the second half but the reds finished the first half strongly with two goals and four points without reply. The game was over as a contest at the break so Joint managers Loman Dempsey and Rory Dowling emptied the bench

These half time substitutions did not weaken the Trim team as they went on to score nine goals and three points in the second half. Two of these goals were well taken by Mark Murray and Robbie Finnegan added another brace. Trim were stronger all over the field and made it two wins in row.

Great Victory For U14 Football Team

Result: Trim 4-7 Seneschalstown 3-6

Trim U14 footballers staged a great second half comeback to win by 4 points on Easter Monday in Seneschalstown. Playing against a very strong and bitingly cold wind in the first half Trim played some good football but struggled to convert their possession into scores. Aaron Lynch did manage a goal, finishing a great ball from Calum Pottinger to the net. But 2 late goals by the home team had them 8 points to the good at half time, 3-4 to 1-2. Trim came out with all guns blazing in the second half, but for the first 10 minutes of the half it looked like it wasn’t going to be their day as first the crossbar and then the home goalkeeper denied the Trim attack. A Brian Dowling goal started a flurry of scores that decided the game. Dowling followed with 2 more goals and 2 great points from play. Aaron Lynch, who was lively all day, chipped in with 3 points.  There were some great performances in defense throughout the game, particularly from Tom Doyle, Jonathan McEvoy and Ben Gibney. This was Trim’s third victory in three games and leaves them in a good position to qualify for the play-off stages of the league.

U14 Footballers Crush Navan O’Mahony’s

Trim U14 footballers qualified for the league semi-final with a well-deserved victory over O’Mahony’s in St. Loman’s Park on Tuesday evening. Trim’s first half performance set up the win. Strong defensive play from Tom Doyle, Patrick Dempsey and Karl Keating helped set up a number of great scores from play from Gavin Griffith, Tadhg Mulvey and Evan Buckley. Aaron Lynch, as usual, was accurate from frees. Two goals in quick succession from Brian Dowling had Trim in a comfortable position at half time, leading 2-12 to 0-4. The expected O’Mahony’s comeback came as soon as the second half started. They kicked 5 points in a row to eat into the Trim lead, but they didn’t get the goals they needed because of a number of great saves from Sean Thornton in the home goal. 2 breakaway goals from Aaron Lynch ensured Trim ran out winners in the end. This was a good team performance with Cian Walsh and Cian Breatnach being solid on the right side of defence and wing forwards Fearghal O’Keane and Mark Murray working tirelessly for the whole game. Brian Dowling and Evan Buckley were strong in midfield. Semi final is due to be played next week, with opposition and venue to be decided.

Trim: Sean Thornton, Cian Walsh, Pierse Darby, Patrick Dempsey, Cian Breatnach, Tom Doyle, Karl Keating, Brian Dowling (2-3), Evan Buckley (0-2), Mark Murray, Gavin Griffith (0-3), Fearghal O’Keane, Robbie Finnegan, Tadhg Mulvey (0-1), Aaron Lynch (2-5), Michael Mahon, Ben Gibney, Conor Cook, Padraic Payne

Spring League Div. 2 Semi Final

Result: Trim 5-7 Seneschalstown 0-4

Trim U14 footballers had to battle all the way to victory in this semi final, played in very difficult conditions in St Loman’s Park on Tuesday evening. Playing with a hurricane at their back in the first half, Trim got off to a great start with an early goal from Mark Murray. Seneschalstown responded with a pointed free. It took the home team a while to settle, as the very strong wind made it difficult for both teams. Eventually Trims possession started to pay off and 2 goals apiece from Robbie Finnegan and Brian Dowling and points from Dowling, Evan Buckley and Gavin Griffith had Trim in a

commanding position at half time. Trim 5-7 Seneschalstown 0-1.

The Trim lads didn't manage to score in the second half, but that doesn't reflect on the huge defensive effort they put in. Seneschalstown poured forward, with the wind now to their advantage. But the Trim defence stood strong. There were great displays all over the field, especially in the full-back line, where team captain Cian Walsh led by example, ably assisted by Pierce Darby and Patrick Dempsey. Sean Thornton had another solid performance in goal. The half-back line and midfield worked tirelessly throughout, with Tom Doyle excelling at No. 6.

Trim now face Dunshaughlin in the final, which promises to be a great contest, as only 1 point separated the teams when they met earlier in the competition.

Trim: Sean Thornton, Cian Walsh, Pierse Darby, Patrick Dempsey, Cian Walsh, Tom Doyle, Karl Keating, Brian Dowling (2-4), Evan Buckley (0-1), Mark Murray (1-0), Gavin Griffith (0-2), Fearghal O’Keane, Luke Mahon, Tadhg Mulvey, Robbie Finnegan (2-0), Michael Mahon, Padraic Payne, Ben Gibney, Jonathan McEvoy, Patrick Dinan

Meet And Greet Day A Big Success

On Bank holiday Monday 18th March we held our first ever Meet and Greet day, this day was designed to make new family’s to the town aware of what was on offer in the club and to view our club facilities. The day turned out to be huge success as a steady stream of family’s made their way to the club house from 3pm. To make the day a success a lot of work was carried out  by Noel Dempsey and his  committee in the weeks leading up to Monday the 18th. The main advertising tool was a leaflet drop last Wednesday and Thursday to over 5000 house in the Town. On the day each section of the club, Juvenile, Girls football, Camogie and the adult section put up impressive displays of pictures, information and club colours. Seamus Brennan put on a display of pictures from past Trim Teams and provided information on the history of our club. Many of our past and present adult hurling, camogie and football stars turned up and made themselves available to answer questions and help out.

On the day our main sponsor SuperValu Trim provided a super hamper which was raffled free

Girls Football News

Trim U10 girls

Trim U10 girls took on our near neighbours, Summerhill in round 3 of the U10 Girls (west) championship on Monday night 22nd of April in Summerhill.

In somewhat blustery conditions both teams treated spectators to a great game of football.  The Trim girls moved the ball around the pitch with a great deal of confidence with their accurate passes and ability to carry the ball paying dividends.  This U10 team was formed 1 year ago and the girls have worked extremely hard on building the skills to allow them to compete with more seasoned clubs in this competition.

We were very lucky to have almost all our players available for the match and everyone managed to get a good amount of game time.  Trim ran out as comfortable winners at the end of this hard fought and competitive game.  Well done girls, we look forward to seeing you at training every Wednesday night

On our panel of 22 on the night were Abby Moyles, Aoibhinn Short, Aoife Slattery, Ava Costello, Cliona Mitchell, Dearbhla McCaffery, Emma Gibney, Jane Doby, Jane Dowling, Jessica Varley, Jill McInerney, Julianne Murtagh, Meadbh Tully, Niamh McMorrow, Niamh Ferry, Nora-Jean Lenehan, Orla Murphy, Orla Slattery, Realtine O'Mahony, Ruth Keegan, Sarah McCormack, Sarah O'Reilly
