What did I try with Year 12?• Wiki with Year 12 IPT

• The purpose of the Wiki was to create a resource that all the students could share for study

• The students were asked to summarise hardware and software and social and ethical issues across the dot points instead of down.

• Each student would do a different issue. The students wrote their topic on the board to prevent two topics being created at the same time.

• I started a Wiki for them with some headings and a sample new page for them to copy

• I would have liked to have done a module Wiki across the two classes but this did not work, so they were individual class Wikis

Surprises

• One student said that this was too hard and she didn’t like it

• My reply was that she found it hard because she had to construct the knowledge instead of me giving it to her

• She started working then• The next slide is the result

• Wiki with Year 11• The purpose of this Wiki was for the students to

learn about Wikis. • I included a question in their exam about the process

of creating Wikis.• Students were asked to summarise the social and

ethical issues across the dot points• Again I started a Wiki for them with some headings

• One student kept asking me if this was in the exam. My answer was “Sort of”

• These students were happy to experiment. They found symbols to insert

What else did I try with Year 12?• Blogs with Year 12

• The purpose of this blog was for the students to write ask for help from me and from each other

• I stated this blog with a request for revision topics to be done in class

Surprises

• Why should I be surprised?• The students only wanted to have fun• In one lesson they flogged it with inappropriate

entries• However I found that I could delete them

• (Should I have done this?)• This is what remains

What did I try with embedding?• I found that I could embed utubes• This solves the problem of access utubes

How do I try to save paper?• The students have access to the HSC papers,

notes and answers directly through Janison• I use announcements instead of notes• I copy pages from other textbooks using the

email facility on the photocopier and post them on Janison

• I post my handouts on Janison

What did I try with Pageflakes• I showed my husband how to do this• He loved it • He could now access RSS feeds from Adobe

about the latest developments in Photoshop, Dreamweaver etc
