Ted has received a message fromGary Wakely, of the Castle Col-chester Club and he has a propo-sition:
On 12th May it’s our May trial,it is an Eastern Centre class Bchampionship, youth B andTwinshock round. Howeverfrom this year on it will beknown as the John KendallMemorial Trial. In light of this Ihave recently seen Sally (John’s wife) and she is keen that weget a few old thumpers theretoo. Would you be so kind asto sound out the EFA membersto see if there is any likely sup-port.
So what do you think? As youknow John was also a prominentmember of the EFA and I think itwould only be fitting that we sup-ported Gary in his trial to be heldat Thorrington Pit (Thumpers ven-ue.) Please let Ted know yourthoughts.
And I can’t sign off without sayinga big thank you, on behalf of ALLthose who will be riding at Wrab-ness, to Keith Fitz-John for tak-ing on the Secretary of theMeeting duties.Perhaps if you enjoy the trial anddon’t normally help out youmight just put your name forwardfor another time?
Have a good ‘un.

PEDRO’S PATTER
A very cold day didn't deter52 chaps descending on
the well used and abused Raydonpit which proved to be in wickedmode veteran Colin Sadler de-clared it the worst surface he ex-perienced in 40 odd years, buthey a loss of 48 not to be decried. But how did Dave Spurgeon spir-it the Greeves round for 27 yes27 congratulations, what wereyou drinking on holiday? TrevorBaker worked hard for 2nd spoton the immaculate heavyweight,Trevor Hill continues on his im-proved form. The twin shockswere put in place by the Britishiron, can someone explain this, doesn't make sense to me. Onthe 50/50 Colin Teager had agreat result easing the TY aheadof the Cub of tryer Colin Rose, great performances chaps. Anoth-er hybrid made its debut hereMartyn Franklyn's TY motor inMontesa chassis, velly interesting.Richard Challis and BSA put theeasy routers in place. Geoff and'Sidge' kept their 2/s going andfeet on rests in a veterans tussle, what happened to messr's Dove,Smith, Hood? As always tusslesensured marks wise through theentry which heightens the com-petitive spirit, I know from experi-ence footing and pickingmachinery from the overgrowth istiring but keep going which iswhat the aces did years ago per-cevience is name of the game.
Watch and learn. There weresome midfielders who coped wellwith difficult conditions and ap-preciated they had ridden a trialand enjoyed. To those who madecenturies don't go away come tonext work party and partake inthe planning of sections it's inter-esting and you'll have a laughand be appreciated.
The Telford off-road show at-tracted several members to a jum-ble which was basically consistedof 'modern'! M/x gear, so thatdidn't take long to whizz round, inside to the over restored yester-day's iron. They never looked likethat in the real time, however onehas to recognise the effort andexpense incurred and enthusi-asm in getting them in front ofthe masses. I enjoyed severalhours viewing and conversingwith like minded. Does a SWMreally command a 6k price tag? What's that, what's a SWM? Mov-ing on the Greeves riders standwas well appointed and attendedwith numerous pastmasters indeep conversation (men don'ttalk!) Norton stand many andvaried very interesting. Yes wellworth the travelling, her indoorswas relieved to learn my only pur-chase was a tyre gauge! AnotherSunday was spent at the annualgathering of speedway/grass en-thusiasts at speedway museumagain I followed similar proce-dure spending a tender, no I tell

a lie, bought raffle tickets, missed out by one number forpair tickets to British speedwayGP, he, ho!! However good day.The Southend lads entertainedseveral members on 24th Feb at'Royal Oak' pits and they didn'tdisgrace on a very cold day, GregRadley has really got the Greeveson song (after lotssss of workand was our top man on hardroute (87) 7th place obviouslywasn't easy! Trevor Baker 8th,Colin Sadler 9th on the Cub. Inthe pre 70 non-championship(easy route) Graham Braybrook(Bantam) continued battlingwith Colin Rose (Cub) Graham1st, Colin 2nd by a dab! A way-ward footing session pegged Rog-er Finch to 4th. The seeminglyirrepressible Geoff Daw dominat-ed the twin shock (easy route)entry a dab ahead of anotherveteran Doug Theobold they
don't give up readily do they, take note the fifty something's!!Next up Bob beat brother Rich-ard Whreathall by a 3, nevermind Richard by the time this isread you will have been scram-bling and got it of your system!Roger Gulliver and new passen-ger Julien Smith worked welltogether and topped the class ofone! Oh dear hope you put thelight out when you left boyos'.This was also Roger's last dayliving in the real world you arenow funding him! He and shecan now be seen daily standingat the top of their road clutchingbus passes arguing as to wheth-er they go east or west! Decisions, decisions! Mike Harden (a pastEastern centre trials sidecarchampion) ran another well at-tended practice the previous day'new' faces 'new' bikes, some tobe seen again some

Picture the scene, my left kneeup by my ear, might right foot
somehow still in contact with thefoot peg, right hand on the throttle, left hauling up hard on the handle-bars. All this taking place on a 45ºincline (at the recent Raydon trial)which had been thoughtfullymarked out with Red and Bluemarkers so that if some 45 yr oldEssex boi with too much time onhis hands felt the need to manhan-dle 250lbs of Plumsteads finestalong it’s treacherous path hecould indeed ‘knock himself out!’Having exited the End MarkersAJAY then decided to ‘find somegrip’ after all, sending me crosscountry and over familiarising my-self with some of the best flors andforna the county of Suffolk has tooffer. Then in the queue for thenext section I was informed by theriders behind me that myself andAJAY had made that section awhole lot easier for subsequent rid-ers by ‘rearranging’ the bank and‘ironing out the rough spots.’Similar descriptive's took place onmany other sections that day, shedoes like to ‘wag her tail’ whensearching for traction, off and onwith the throttle then she bites andshe’s off like the proverbial scoldedcat. If only there were some indica-tion of when tyre and earth wouldharmonise, you know, like a lightthat goes green or a buzzer orsomething, some kind of warningjust so I wouldn’t be left dazed andconfused after trying to stay aboardthis unwieldy beast.
Driving home relating detailed ac-counts of each section and theirpitfalls to the old man who proba-bly thought with the heater on 40or so winks were in order I becameaware of a slight discomfort some-where between my big toe and hair,in other words I was kernackerred.I’m gonner pay for this tomorrow Ithought, best have a nice relaxingbath then one of mum’s roast beefepics then an early night and I’ll be‘pip and dandy’ come morning. Nev-er quite works out like that though.I mean, dinner and bath yes, essen-tial. But the early night usuallystarts off with the best of intentionsthen I get the call ‘think I deserve apint’ and so quite rightly ends uplast orders in the White Horse. Hav-ing spent a couple of hours listen-ing to other peoples boringweekend exploits then eagerly in-forming them of my own ‘till theireyes glaze over! And so Mondaymorning arrive, eyes open andwaiting for a few seconds just un-til it kicks in, you know the oddache here and there maybe abruise or two but do you knowwhat? Nothing! not even a twitch,a slightly fluffy head maybe (Lon-don Pride will do that for you) butapart from that A1. kettle on,Yorkshire tea and some toast, flickon the radio and you’ve guessed it‘….jumping Jack flash, it’s a gas!gas! gas! (bloody two strokes getever where.) What better start tothe week and roll on the next trial!

After being married for thirty years, a wife askedher husband to describe her.
He looked at her for a while, then said,"You're an alphabet wife ..... A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K."
She asks ... "What the hell does that mean?"
He said, "Adorable, Beautiful, Cute, Delightful,Elegant, Foxy, Gorgeous, and Hot".
She smiled happily and said... “Oh that’s lovely. Howabout I, J, K?"
He said, "I'm Just Kidding!"The swelling in his eye is going down andthe doctor is fairly optimistic about saving
his testicles.

No more Fix-a-flat, no more aircompressors, no more sparetyres, no more jacks, no moretools rattling in the boot. Will itreduce the price of cars? Will it reduce the cost of road-side service? Will some business-esgo out of business? They have been testing these forseveral years now.Resilient Tech was developingthem for the military
SEE THROUGH TYRES
Radical new tyre design byMichelin.the next generation oftyres.
There are 'spoke' like connec-tions to the inner part of thetyre from the outside tread'wrap'
The next picture shows howodd it looks in motion...
Makes you wonder how theride feels doesn't it?These tyres are airless andare scheduled to be out onthe market very soon.

Just think of the impact on:
A. No more air valves..B. No more having to pump up tyres..C. No more repair kits..D. No more flats...
These are actual pictures taken at the South Carolina plant of Michelin.
This all dates from about 2005/6 and has never panned out as expected.Possible reasons why is that short comings of the design were/are exces-
sive noise and heat at high speed. In 2011 Bridgestone also presented an airless tyre concept which itclaimed high speed noise was not a concern but there are other issues
such as how to avoid trapping debris in the spokes before the concept canprogress.
The general consensus is that non-pneumatic tyres for general release areat least another decade away. Ed.

Hello everybody, Ihave just woken
up after my winterhibernation and
was surprisedto find outthat wewere strug-gling to find
a secretary ofthe meeting for our next
trial at Wrabness. Well, not strictlytrue, as I turned up, a bit blearyeyed with my bike at Raydon andended up observing. Went homefeeling like one of the ‘Brass Mon-keys’ and back into hibernation!
Luckily one our few memberswith a sense of duty and knows theneed for volunteers has steppedinto the breach and we have a sec-retary for Wrabness.
Now this has prompted me tolook back to April 2010 and drawup a league table of secretaries ofthe meeting.
NOW SIT UP & TAKE NOTICE!I know some of you are about todrop off, turn the page or not evenstart to read this, But this is impor-tant, without more volunteers totake up event or committee posts, volunteer to join event working par-ties and observe, the club’s in dan-ger of folding! Rant over! For now!
Since April 2010 we have runbetween the two clubs 30 events.Since 2010 we have been lucky tohave had 12 volunteer secretariesof the meeting. Remember, this iswith a membership of approximate-ly 160.
Four members have carried outthe duties of Secretary of the Meet-ing at one event, another four attwo events, two at three, one atfour and one family an amazingeight!
Now, I am not going to namethese great people, just to thankyou all for making our great sportpossible whether you officiated atone event or more, we cannot oper-ate without you!
There are other club officialswho give up their unpaid time toobtain permits for events, obtainpermission for land use, managethe finances, publish the T&Ts andact as web-administrator, obtainand look after event equipment. Icould go on and I have probablyforgotten something or somebody.Sorry if I have.
Some of you who are still read-ing are probably thinking to your-self’s, Silly old git! Yes, I will holdup my hand to that, as I now havemy first free TV licence and thisyear I have used my heating allow-ance on heating instead of new tri-als tyres! But remember I startedgetting involved in trials in the fif-ties, rode in my first trial in about1955, organised my first of manytrials in 1961 and have seen manygood trial’s clubs fold because oflack of workers and not members!
SO! WE NEED MOREVOLUNTEERS TO EXIST!
