BIOTIKOS 2017 “Trends in Nanobiotechnology”

TERI UNIVERSITY

The TERI University was established to disseminate the vast reservoir of

knowledge devised by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), a not-for-profit,

independent research institute recognized globally for its contribution to scientific

and policy research in the realms of energy, environment and sustainable

development. The TERI University’s academic offering is rooted in the

comprehensive research, consultancy, and outreach activities of TERI.

In 1999, the University was granted the “Deemed to be University” status by

the University Grants Commission (UGC) and notified vide the Ministry of Human

Resources Development, Department of Education, Government of India,

notification no. F.9/19/95-U-3, dated October 5, 1999. The University aspires to be

an institution of advanced learning which meets the needs of a rapidly growing

India. The academic programs are envisioned to provide the students with a

holistic perspective of the subjects offered and encourage interdisciplinary

learning.

BIOTOKOS 2017

The Greek word “Biotikos” means “matters pertaining to life”. Biotikos is an

annual biotechnology seminar organized by TERI University Biotechnology

Society (TUBS). This comprises of masters and doctoral level students sharing a

commitment of generating awareness about latest breakthroughs and current issues

in the field of Biotechnology. Biotikos was initiated in the year 2011 and was

inaugurated by Dr. M.S. Swaminathan. Since then this program is organized each

year to encourage students to pursue education and research in Biotechnology and

contribute to research and development in this fascinating area.

TRENDS IN NANOBIOTECHNOLOGY- BOTIKOS 2017

TERI University Biotechnology Society is organizing an event on 28th-29th

September 2017. The theme of the event is “TRENDS IN

NANOBIOTECHNOLOGY”. The objective of TERI University Biotechnology

Society (TUBS) is to highlight the important role played by biotechnology in the

modern society, and its relevance to the contemporary imperative of sustainable

development. Biotikos 2017 is being organized by the students and faculty

Department of Plant Biotechnology, TERI University, to discuss and debate the

promises and challenges of Nanobiotechnology. The proposed event is aimed at

enlightening science undergraduates/post-graduate students and teachers about the

upcoming areas in Nanobiotechnology and its applications in different scientific

fields. Nanobiotechnology is growing as an independent discipline and it is adding

a new dimension for the growth of biotechnology Perhaps, nanobiotechnology is

most revolutionary and multidisciplinary field of modern science and has great

impact on society through various applications in medical, imaging and sensor

development. Nanobiotechnology, with the help of medical and biotechnological

tools, has been used to diagnose, image and deliver the drug to target cells. In

multifunctional therapeutics, it offers a platform to expedite its specific targeting to

tumor tissue and delivery of an effective treatment, with negligible harm to healthy

cells. Nano-integrated sensors are being developed to identify the harmful

microbes like Salmonella, and other contaminants on food products before

packaging and intake. Nano scale bio molecules such as protein, nucleic acid and

biopolymers regulate and control biological systems with incredible precision. This

event includes a series of lectures, panel discussion, quiz and poster presentation

across various domains of Nanobiotechnology such as nanomaterial,

nanobioscience, nanomedicine, agriculture, environmental nanobiotechnology,

nanobiosensors, etc.

Biotikos-2017 “TRENDS IN NANOBIOTECHNOLOGY”

TERI University

September 28-29, 2017

Subject: Invitation for TRENDS IN NANOBIOTECHNOLOGY- BIOTIKOS 2017,

September 28-29, 2017.

Dear Sir\Madam

Greetings from TERI University!

TERI University was established and recognized by the University Grants

Commission (UGC) as a deemed to be University in 1999. In the period since its inception,

the University has developed and evolved as a research university exploring the frontiers of

knowledge in areas of major significance to human endeavor. The University commits itself

to academic excellence and an environment, which encourages innovative and multi-

disciplinary research and teaching. It offers academic programmes in several key disciplines

including Plant Biotechnology, Public Policy, Sustainable Development, Infrastructure

Management, Natural Resources Management, Environmental Studies, Water Resource

Management, Geoinformatics and Climate Science.

TERI University Biotechnology Society is organizing a symposium on September 21-22,

2017. The theme of conference is “TRENDS IN NANOBIOTECHNOLOGY”.

The proposed event is aimed at enlightening science undergraduate/post-graduate students

and teachers about the upcoming areas in Nanobiotechnology and its application in different

scientific fields. The two day program will provide a platform for students to interact with

representatives from academia, research and industry. The event will provide an opportunity

for the students and teachers to discuss more about the uses of Bioinformatics in their

respective streams.

The second day will be dedicated to participatory events such as a quiz and poster

presentation by college students. The objective of organizing this symposium is to sensitize

young students on the potential of Nanobiotechnology and to make them informed regarding

the opportunities of new technology.

This letter is to invite you and students from your department for the “TRENDS IN

NANOBIOTECHNOLOGY- BIOTIKOS 2017” being organized in TERI University

campus on September 28-29, 2017.

We look forward to enthusiastic participation from your college. The tentative

program is attached.
