Internet of Things (IoT)The Internet of Things is a scenario in which objects, animals or people are provided with unique identifiers and the ability to automatically transfer data over a network without requiring human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction. IoT has evolved from the convergence of wireless technologies, micro-electromechanical systems and the Internet.

AboutThe first Internet appliance, was a Coke machine at Carnegie Melon University in the early 1980s. An internet-connected soda vending machine that allows customers to check the availability status of soda remotely using a finger interface.

First emergence of IoT (1982)

- Three stages for the IoT:1) There need to be more devices on the network, everything from sensors to devices with embedded wireless.2) The devices must coordinate with each other without human intervention.3) Connected devices become ubiquitous, a programmable platform.

‘The Internet of Things’

By 2025 Internet nodes may reside in everyday things- food packages, furniture, paper documents, and more. Today’s developments point to future opportunities and risks that will arise when people can remotely control, locate, and monitor even the most mundane devices and articles.

CHAPTER03Practical Use Cases: Healthcare Industry

The concept :1) Patients can preset and communicate with electronic medication

administration records.2) Packaging drugs or delivering lab results, telemedicine based

technologies. Also, the robotic-assisted surgery could be possible.

The takeaway :Health industry’s integration with real-time monitoring technology.

CHAPTER03Unique Use Cases: Healthcare Industry

The concept :1) Patient swallows this device and it moves through the GI track taking

pictures as an alternative to the tube-based endoscope. 2) Patient uses a small patch worn on the body working together with 1mm

sensor-enabled pills and a backend cloud service to provide real-time information on a users medication adherence.

The takeaway :The platform is built around the wearable patch which monitors the status of the ingestible sensors and simultaneously collects data about a users heart rate, temperature activity and rest patterns throughout their day.

Nike + running shoes

The concept :The shoes come with ‘a sensor that tracks your run’ and sends the data to your iPod. Also this has its own ‘social network’ and can automatically tweet. The takeaway :The importance of connection between users and a sensor using the Internet of things as a platform. Nike + showed that the Internet of Things is already part of our everyday lifefor those people who are motivated to track their running.

Fedex Senseaware

The concept :The SenseAware allows customers to use a small device in their packages which via GS and sensor tracks. It tells people; current location, accurate temperature(pharmaceuticals), light exposure(film or art), relative humidity and barometric pressure. The takeaway :The SenseAware based packing system that will give usersthe most critical data about their shipment, in near real time.

CHAPTER04Future perspective and Conclusion

Would have more proactive progress in retail, healthcare, home automation, and automobile industries in the near future.

The key point is that ‘Internet of Things’ has to be made as a platform can permeate our lives everyday.

Might be risky handling the problem on the security, trust and etc in case that everything is connected machine to machine or machine to people.

But somehow, in different point of view, people might miss things ‘Humans’ deal with working.(Human-to-Human connectivity)
