FIRE WATER PIPING MATERIALS

SEVENTIESCarbon steel, galvanized. Painted. Wet insulation. Estimated 20 yearslifetime of platforms, later extended.

EIGHTIESStill much carbon and galvanizedIncreased use of more resistant materials like CuNi and 6Mo, 316 steel and titanium

NINETIESDominated by standard and nobler stainless steels and titanium, but still some carbonand galvanized steel (with operational limitations). Some installations with glassfiber reinforced pipes.

Example: Your flow requirement is 4700 l/min. UsingGalvanized steel pipe you will need to select a 8” pipe (maxv= 3,5 m/s) compared to a 4” when you use Elastopipe™.

The Hazen-Williams C value which is used to calculate friction loss in pipework is for Steel 100, Galv. Steel 120, GRE /GRP and Titanium150, ELASTOPIPE™ 155. Please note that these numbers areapplicable to new installed pipework only.
