Tree House of Tallahassee, Inc. has been coming to the aid of children in their greatest hour of need for almost 30 years. Established in 1986 by the late Patty Yancey, Tree House is a 24-hour emergency shelter for the abused and neglected children of our area. Tree House is for children who are two to twelve years of age, and the primary goal of the organization is to provide a home-like environment for the children. Whenever possible, sibling groups are kept together to minimize further disruption for them. In addition to providing shelter and care, Tree House provides counseling in order to give these children a chance for a “normal” life. In conjunction with these services, staff members provide child advocacy services to protect the rights of the children.

Tree House was the vision of Patty Yancey, who was very active in the local foster care program. In the 1980s, she realized that she was unable to keep up with the number of children needing care. Local foster children were frequently sent to Panama City, Pensacola or even Jacksonville. Ms. Yancey decided to open the first Tree House shelter, which is honored to continue to bear her name. Tree House is a community oversight program, and Tree House fully owns two undisclosed location homes in Tallahassee. Administration and staffing of the homes are handled by our partners at Children’s Home Society.

Tree House of Tallahassee, Inc.’s Board of Directors, staff, volunteers and specifically the many local children served by Tree House wish to sincerely thank you for your contribution to our 2015 Fast Cars and Mason Jars fundraiser. The funds raised will go directly toward continuously meeting the needs of the children at Tree House.

Welcome to the Tree House 9th Annual Fast Cars and Mason Jars. We have a great night in store for you, and sincerely appreciate your sponsorship and support for our programs. Our fundraising efforts tonight will have a positive impact on the lives of many young people in our community. Because of generous support from folks like you, we were especially excited to launch a new program, our scholarship house. This home provides residential support for students who have aged out of traditional programs and bridges the gap in helping them while attending college. Also, we have partnered with Capital City Youth Services in their Transitional Living Program. As a result of these additional programs, Tree House now serves kids from 2 to 26 years old.

A huge thank you to Linley Paske and the Fast Cars and Mason Jars Committee for making everything here tonight possible. I know it will be a fabulous evening thanks to all of their hard work. Thank you also to the Tree House Board of Directors and our partner, Chil-dren’s Home Society.

Have a wonderful evening and thank you again for your support.

Dear Friends of Tree House, Welcome to the 9th Annual Fast Cars & Mason Jars event benefiting Tree House of Tallahassee, Inc. No man {or woman} is an island. No truer words were ever spoken when considering the success of this event. The women by my side tonight have graciously given of their precious time and energy to plan and organize this event in order to change children’s lives for the better and allow Tree House to continue to serve as the turning point for so many children in our community. There is a waiting list to have a seat here tonight, and the committee completely blew me away as they procured the incredible collection of items we have available in our live and silent auctions. On top of all that, they created a breathtaking setting here at The Farm that has allowed us to host an unforgettable fundraiser for the children of Tree House. The members of our community who have contributed in the form of event sponsorships, auction donations, and in-kind contributions are truly the ones who have made this night possible. Their generosity ensures that proceeds raised tonight will directly benefit the children who are loved and cared for while at Tree House. Tree House’s mission of providing a homelike environment for children who are intentionally displaced from their families due to abuse or neglect has benefited thousands of young children for nearly 30 years. This is an exciting time for giving to Tree House. Proceeds from this year’s event will continue to fund the original purpose for which Tree House was created. However, this year’s proceeds will also help Tree House further its mission to aid an underserved need in our area as we introduce the Tree House Scholarship Home. Children under state care who have aged out of the system at age 18 are, in many cases, unprepared to succeed in life outside of the system. The Tree House Board of Directors has beautifully executed a vision to re-purpose the second Tree House home to help bridge the gap between childhood and adulthood. The Tree House Scholarship Home will fill an immediate need in our community by helping to prepare young women for a successful, independent life outside the system in spite of their non-ideal childhood. Specially selected merit-based students will be housed by Tree House while pursuing education at the secondary level: community college, four year college or other vocational education program as long as they continue to achieve top academic performance. This program will help these young scholars who grew up in “the system” as they spread their wings under a watchful eye, with our helping hand in this transitional living program. A very special thank you to Jill Chandler and Jill Pope, 2015 Event Co-Chairs, all the subcommittee chairs, and the entire fundraising committee for choosing to be a part of Tree House and the Fast Cars event. I cannot fully express my gratitude for your service. As we enjoy this evening, let us all remember why we are here and who we are serving. Tonight, please raise your glasses and your bid paddles high for the children of Tree House! Know that your continued support is allowing Tree House to keep its doors and arms open to those who need it most.

Get ready to raise your paddles!

1. Beary Special Gift Tree House wants every child that comes through our doors to feel loved and immediately at “home” despite their circumstances. The Bear Hug is an easy way for you to leave tonight knowing you have had a hand in positively impacting the life of a Tree House child. Proceeds from tonight’s Bear Hugs will go directly toward the continued support of the Tree House Scholarship Home, opened this Fall and filling quickly with young women, as a home for Tree House college scholars. Children under the care of the state age out of the program at age 18, but in most cases do not possess life skills to live on their own as adults yet. After various community discussions and other non-profit feedback, Tree House has committed to help fill a need, using our second home to bridge the gap between childhood and adulthood. Tree House scholars will be housed in our home while enrolled full-time in community college, a four-year college or other vocational education program as long as they maintain top academic performance. While these students continue to grow-up with Tree House, they will also receive ongoing mentoring and training to prepare them to live a healthy, successful life as adults, despite their childhood. You can help us break the cycle! The Tree House Board is thrilled to expand our reach to accommodate more children and young adults in our community – and with your help, we will continue to effect positive change in our community. With a set price, bidders simply raise your paddles high all at once! Spotters will come around and collect your bear from your bid packet. We want to sell as many bears as we can, as fast as we can, so let’s start the night on a high note! Set Bid: $100
