The Place With Highest Temple Density In The World!

A perfect place to go for everybody. Monkey Lov-ers should not miss to see Uluwatu temple, a cliffedged temple with plenty of wildlife monkeys. If you are travelling with kids, definitely go there. A wide range of temples and stories can be found on: www.travellingbali.com

Mother Temple, also named Besakih Temple or Pura Besakih Bali, is located in the village of Be-sakih (Rendang Sub-district, Karangasem) right at the foot of Mount Agung, in the eastern part of Bali.

As its name already states, it is the mother of all temples and not just one of Bali’s most impor-tant temples; it is the most important one in Bali! Besakih Temple is located about 1,000 meters above sea level and finally it is the highest sub-stantial public temple complex.

Besakih Temple dates back to about the 10th century (the same age as Tirta Empul Temple) and is actually a complex consisting of about 30 singular temples, with hundreds of shrines, dedi-cated to the helpers of the gods.

When you have finally reached Pura Penataran Agung Besakih, the highest temple of the Mother Temple complex, you will be rewarded with un-imaginable views and a fabulous, spiritual feeling.

Obviously, the most marvellous things in Bali also have a reverse side to the coin. As the Mother Temple is a very popular tourist place, you will be asked for money at every single corner. A guide offers his knowledge here, a seller his products there and obviously you have to pay for the en-

trance as well. Additionally you will probably get forced to buy a Sarong for 50 USD which is 3-4 times of the real value.

Before you enter the temple complex, Besakih Temple can easily become annoying, especially if you can’t handle pushy people. As Besakih tem-ple plays such a big role in Balinese tradition and it is a tremendous and imposing complex it is there-fore hard to say:

“If you can’t handle these situations, stay away from Pura Besakih and see other major temples on Bali such as Pura Luhur Uluwatu (Uluwatu Temple) or Tirta Empul Temple (Pura Tirta Empul) just to name a few” but unfortunately this is a fact. Although for those who don’t mind at all and make this tour to Bali’s holiest temple will explore a terrific complex with stunning views from the top level!

Balangan Beach is located in the Bukit, in the south west of Bali. This place is a real hidden gem and “The Golden Sand Area” is well worth a visit. Situated under a massive cliff, Balangan Beach is not easy to find but precisely for this reason this wonderful beauty offers nearly full privacy. Apart from some surfers who enjoy the fantastic waves in this area you will only meet some other tourists who found this place by coincidence.

A public parking place on top of the cliff is pro-vided and the access to Balangan Beach is very easy, you just have to handle the stairs down the cliff to the beach. Because of the massive waves, Balangan Beach is not highly recommended for swimming but offers another opportunity which is rare to find somewhere else in Bali, a romantic cliff edge wedding with stunning sunset views!

In case you plan to get married, Balangan Cliff will make the most important day in your life simply unforgettable. Wedding agents in Bali offer cer-emonies in every price class. Starting from around 2,000 USD and the sky is the limit. In case you haven’t booked your hotel yet, basic accommo-dation around Balangan Beach is provided for as little as 20 USD.

The rooms are obviously not equipped with an air conditioner but those who are happy with only a

fan can make staying around Balangan Beach a real bargain. Day Trips to Balangan Beach can be perfectly combined with a visit of Uluwatu Tem-ple (cliff edge temple) which is very popular for its wild monkeys. In case you are travelling with kids it has to be mentioned that the cliff around Ulu-watu Temple is partially unsecured. On the way back it is highly recommended to make a stop in Jimbaran Bay for a seafood dinner.

The local warungs (restaurants), nestled in be-tween the area of Four Seasons and Interconti Hotel, offer real value for money. A 1.5 Kilo Red Snapper, coming with rice, soup, vegetables and different sauces only adds up to about 10 USD and it is enough for two.

In addition to this, Jimbaran Bay is a very romantic place and offers a great sunset. Be there at the latest around 6.00 pm.

The Bali Deli Group has now expanded with its Sanur

branches in the first quarter of this year, on Jl. Danau Tam-

blingan the main street of Sanur. This is good news indeed

for those further afield from the original found on Jl. Kunti

in the heart of Seminyak. Bali Deli is a food lovers’ haven,

or a home sick traveler’s refuge for all the goodness and

comfort of culinary delights. Not only does its well-stocked

shelves and full delicatessen fridges entice from the per-

haps restrained shopping list, but it also offers a wine cellar

that is very impressive. The on-site bakery wafts the freshly

baked aromas of breads, croissants, pastries, cakes and

pies that send all the customers dreaming of their child-

hood in grandma’s kitchen. A special feature of Bali Deli is

the restaurant named ‘Le Spot’ which offers both indoor

and outdoor seating from breakfast through to and includ-

ing dinner, with its varied international all-day menu, fresh

juices and good coffee. Complimentary Wi-Fi also makes

this restaurant a popular daytime meeting spot for busi-

ness lunches and get-togethers. Bali Deli provides a full

delivery service of the F&B menu and pastry and bakery

items around Bali.

The Double Edged Keris (sword) of Bali Every fast developing tourist destination in the world has two sides to its blades.

The first area, and surely the most popular one, is known asa mass tourism place such as Kuta or Seminyak. Everyone who has stayed in Bali will have experienced at least one of these area sand seen the Bali Lifestyle in that region. On the other hand what about the other side of the Keris’s blade? Has everyone that has stayed in Kuta, made a trip to Bali’s northern part to see the National park or have they been to Singaraja, Lovina or Candi Dasa?Unfortunately it is sad but true that plenty of the tourists coming to the island of the gods only see it as a low cost island with great opportunities for food and spa treatments.

The following article is aimed at all those people who so far haven’t heard or have ignored Bali’s other side, the wonderful culture, the outstanding fauna and flora and the opportunity to chill out in a segregated area. It is directed at all those who are looking for a chance to take great walks, hikes or cycling tours in a cool, fresh area that is 1,500 meters or more above sea level in an outstanding mountainous area. It has been written for all those who are looking for an opportunity to see wild dol-phins, buffalo races, deer or fantastic marina wildlife in some of the great snorkeling areas that are just waiting to be explored.

Last but by no means least this article is addressed to all those people who want to cross the Kuta or Seminyak boarder and increase their knowledge by experiencing the second face of Bali (side or the other side of the Keris), the traditional and original face (side)! We hope you are one of these people. In the regency of Karangasem in the north west of Bali, lies Candi Dasa, it’s a great place to stay overnight and the perfect place to start explorations of the many cultural highlights which are nestled around this area. In addition to this, Candi Dasa has some extremely charming restaurants, such as the “Lotus Sea view Restaurant”, which offers a won-derful ocean view and the perfect place to have Din-ner. Close to Candi Dasa, nestled in the hills around this area, you can find Tenganan village. The traditions and practices of this village may sound very strange to you but isn’t it worth seeing a village where only the inhabitants are allowed to marry each other andvisitors of the village are pro-hibited from staying overnight? The Taman Ujung Water palace, Winner of tripadvi-sor’s “Travellers’ Choice Award 2013”, Tirta Gangga the former Royal Palace of Krangasem, rated on tripadvisor 4.5/5 and Lempuyang Temple one of Bali’s 9 key directional temples that faces a variety of lakes, mountains and oceans are also located close to Candi Dasa and should not be missed dur-ing your trip. Even if youhave already booked your hotel in Bali, it is worth taking a driver and staying overnight in Candi Dasa, a wonderful place located on the northeast coast of Bali.

Another place which is highly recommended for an overnight stay is Lovina. The name of this neat city is derived from the word ‘lovely’ in Indonesian, which already speaks for itself. Lovina is very popular for dolphin watching which usually starts at 6 o’clock in the morning. For this reason alone an overnight stay in Lovina is already highly recom-mended. The Northern area is also very popular for its unique hot springs. The Banjar Hot Spring for example is operated profession-ally, provides lockers and changing rooms and is great fun to spend some time in the lovely warm water, which is roughly 38 degrees. This environment is very family friendly and a great day out if you are travel-ling with kids. In addition to this, all the hot springs have, due to the sulfurous water, a healing character. Furthermore, plenty of wonderful waterfalls, such as the Gitgit waterfall, with their fresh water poolsgive you the opportunity to take a dip and cool down whilst on your day trip. The following Tour with an overnight stay away from the hustle and bustle in the south, combines as does the previous recommen-dation, great things to see in Bali with a family friendly environment, the following tour is highly recommended.

Panglipuran Village

Gunung Kawi TempleGunung Kawi Temple (Pura Gunung Kawi) is a very unique Balinese temple complex, carved into the mountain and located on Pakerisan River, close to Tampak Siring village in the regency of Gianyar. Pura Gunung Kawi bears a resemblance to the South American Maya Temples as it is surrounded by a lush green tropical rain forest and situated on a mountain river.

Gitgit Waterfall is located in a plateau, about 300 me-ters above sea level. It is the height of about 40 me-ters, surrounded by tropical trees and a lush green environment. The way to Gitgit Waterfall is paved with lots of stalls and on either side of the path you can find some lush plantations (coffee and cloves). The sellers are not aggressive at all and you can finally enjoy a 15 minute walk without getting hassled by anyone.

Penglipuran Village in the traditional Balinese country-side is located in the Bangli regency, about an hour and 30 minute trip from Kuta. See the original Balinese way of living, visit traditional houses and talk to the locals. To keep this outstanding cultural attraction going, the family agreement is that the oldest family member has to move back to Penglipuran after both parents have passed away. A must see for Culture Lovers!

Banjar Hot Spring Bali is a very peaceful place where plenty of locals come for relaxation as well. The toilets are clean, well maintained and lockers are available. One of the pools can be described as a kid’s pool and if you are travelling with the whole family, you can splash around with your children here. A local Restaurant pro-vides basic food and cold drinks and some smaller sou-venir shops are waiting for you to bargain with them.

Mount Batur’s original height was about 4,000 meters in prehistoric times. After an enormous eruption noth-ing was left apart from a large caldera which in 2012 became part of the Global Geopark Network by UN-ESCO. The actual height of Mount Batur is 1,717 me-ters. Mount Batur offers a great opportunity to all cy-cling and trekking fanatics. The Sunrise Trekking Tour is highly recommended to all those who are physically fit.

Sukawati Art Market is the biggest local market in Bali to purchase traditional handicrafts and traditional handmade products, spanning over many blocks on the main road of Sukawati. It can get very interesting when you arrive at the “food department” as this area is extremely local. You should NOT go there if you have a weak constitution! The Trip from Kuta to Sukawati Art Market on average takes one hour.

About a 45 minute trip away from Kuta, in the regency of Tabanan, you are able to find a very interesting but widely ignored attraction; The Subak Museum. Subak stands for a very ingenious water irrigation manage-ment system which was developed in Bali hundreds of years ago but is still in use. A visit to this museum teaches you about Bali’s agricultural tradition with the use of numerous farming related exhibits.

Formerly known as Dreamland, New Kuta Beach looks like it is slowly but steadily transforming into one of Bali’s most luxurious development projects. New Kuta Golf, Klapa Beach Club and Greenpark Waterpark are just some of the projects which have finished over the last couple of years in this area. Enjoy some sunset cocktails at Klapa or play 18 rounds at New Kuta Golf, Bali’s popular cliff edged Golf Course.

Monkey ForestThe Monkey forest is located in Bali’s cultural capital ‘Ubud’ and roughly an hour’s trip from the major cities in the south. The Monkey forest became one of Bali’s most popular sightseeing destinations and plenty of guides put it on their selection of tours. This is because you can see plenty of wild monkeys and it’s the perfect place to go with kids. Be aware of thieving monkeys and make sure you don’t wear any sunglasses, caps or necklaces and take care of your wallet.

The Bird Markets are very local markets. The biodiver-sity of the shown birds in such a small area is simply amazing and reminds more to a Zoo then a market. Hundreds of birds are waiting for a new owner. Howev-er not only Birds can be found at Bali’s major Bird Mar-kets in Denpasar. Puppies, cats, bats, monkeys and other exotic creatures can be bought too. Warning: Most of the cages are inappropriate for the species.

Seminyak Beach is very well known. It perfectly com-bines relaxation, dining and nightlife. As with plenty of other places located on Bali’s west coast, it is a great spot to see Bali’s wonderful sunsets. Plenty of restau-rants and beach bars in every price category stretch along the area known as ‘double six’. The most popular beach club there is called Cocoon, it’s very well known for its sophisticated parties such as the Splash Party.

It is a myth that religions can’t live in peace and harmo-ny next to each other. See a Protestant and a Catholic Church next to a Buddhist or Hindu temple as well as a Muslim mosque nearby. Some of these prayer houses are open for public for a little donation and if you are in Nusa Dua or Jimbaran you shouldn’t miss out on the opportunity to see, maybe the only place in the world where religions are ‘that close’ to each other.

Karangasem Regency became the spot for the biggest Temple in Bali, Besakih Temple. The tem-ple is visited by local residents as well as tourists. There is also a water park, Tirta Gangga Water palace, rice fields, rolling hills and crystal clear wa-ter. Taman Ujung Karangasem is one of the main attractions in 10 Hectares of Karangasem made by three architects from Bali, the Netherlands and China. (Bali Map)

Bangli Regency attractions can be found at Bukit Jati, which is an ideal place for Hiking and Trek-king, visiting Historic Villages and the Penglipuran Temple. In the mountainous areas around Kin-tamani, there are Mount Batur and Lake Batur which is the largest lake in Bali. It has natural hot springs in Toyabungkah. Bangli District is the only district in Bali that does not have a beach. (Bali Map)

Denpasar is the economic center of Bali. There is a Bajra Sandhi museum of heroes and Ba-linese statues which have become a symbol of Denpasar. The unique Kreneng night market, Denpasar Cultural Park (Art Center) and the Bali museum are all located in the heart of Denpasar. (Bali Map)

Bali is a great place to shop. There are many Western standard shopping malls as well as low budget shopping places where the final price is up to the negotiating talent of the buyer.

Many Shopping Malls in Bali offer a wide range of products. Shoes, clothes, jewelry, souvenirs or deli-cious food. The prices are fixed but some shops offer discount vouchers for your next purchase. If the customer spends a large amount, there is a little room for some negotiation. All products in Bali’s Shop-ping Malls have western standards. Friendly service, smiling and helpful people making shopping in Bali a good experience. Negotiating is a normal practice in local markets, with street sellers and in smaller independent shops. The selection of products is plentiful. Of course, no guarantee is offered but bargain-ing and street shopping can be fun too.

Sankara Ubud Resort The word ‘sankara’ refers to a conch seashell that produces a haunting sound when blown. According to the epic Hindu poem, Mahabarata, the horn-like noise of the sankara often signaled the beginning and end of battles between oppos-ing Indian clans. In Bali it is used as a ceremonial instrument during rituals of purification to neutralize negative energy and create a peaceful ambience.

Sankara Ubud Resort is located in the traditional art village of Mas, Ubud. It is 90-minutes from Ngurah Rai International Airport and just 15-minutes from the centre of cultural Ubud.

Sankara Ubud Resort is professionally managed by Satyam Internasional, a Bali based company committed to hospitality ventures that benefit the island and its people.
