Successes1849-1856 The North Carolina Railroad

opens1856- Started the intracoastal waterway1874- Stagecoach service to charlotte is

discontinued, travelers now use trains1887- Electricity has proven itself in

Charlotte now that lights have been installed.

1889- North Carolina’s first electric street car begins service in Asheville

Failures1854- Plank road connection Fayetteville

with Bethania Plank roads destroy the wheels on the

wagonsThe overland trail was a long dangerous

road which you could get attacked by native Americans.

The Oregon Trail was also a very dangerous trail.

Stage coaches were failures because they broke easily.
