�Set up in 1936 at Ferozshah Kotla under Delhi Children’s Aid Society.�In 1960, rechristened Children’s Home for Neglected Children after enactment of Children Act�Home came to be Known as an Observation Home for Boys after passing of the Juvenile Justice Act 2000.�Run by the State Government till 1996.�Following Tragedy and Escapes , a high powered committee was set up Lt. Governor in 1996 by a Social-Welfare Dept. to review the functioning of custodial institution in Delhi�On recommendation by the HPC, to transfer management in Delhi to some NGO�Declared as ‘Fit Institution’ on June 6, 1997 by DSW, Govt. of NCT, Delhi.�From July 1997, under an agreement (MOU), by the Directorate of Social Welfare Govt. of NCT

�From July 1997, under an agreement (MOU), by the Directorate of Social Welfare Govt. of NCT of Delhi, complete management and custodial and non-custodial functions including Probation Services handed over to Prayas�With change in the definition of Children as per Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children),Act 2000 led to a increase in number of Juveniles, being transferred from Jail to Ferozshah Kotla Home compelled Department of Social Welfare, Govt. of NCT of Delhi to convert Prayas Observation Home for Boys from a home for “Neglected Children”/in need of Care and Protection to a home for “Juveniles in Conflict with Law”�Prayas JAC declared as “Fit Institution” under Juvenile Justice Act 1986 on June 6, 1997 by the Department of Social Welfare, Govt.of Delhi vide Notification No. F6 (13) DSW/DDCW/96-97.

Counseling: The Home attaches great importance to counseling and probationservices. Each juvenile undergoes intensive counseling sessions and therapeuticinterventions with a trained counselor

Education: The Home assigns high priority to literacy and education. A system of

Vocational Training: It imparts vocational training as per the aptitude of afterthe test and are divided in to distinct ‘sadans’ or ‘vocational training blocks’. Thetraining is imparted on cutting and tailoring, book-binding, jute work, knitting,screen-printing etc in boys to inculcate in them sound work habits, an attitude forhonest living and team spirit

Education: The Home assigns high priority to literacy and education. A system ofNon Formal Education is followed. School going boys are enable to take regular school

examinations. Drop-Outs are helped to prepare through NIOS.

Activities of Prayas Observation HomeActivities of Prayas Observation HomeRecreation: through the provisions that ensure holistic development of thejuveniles by integrating their gross-motor and fine-motor skills by the facilities ofoutdoor and indoor sports such as carom board, ludo and Chess boards andoutdoor sports such as cricket, badminton and volleyball along with field sportssuch as running and Khokho.

Family Contact: Children are allowed to meet the family once in a week so that theyget emotional support and developing a feeling of emotional and belongingness. As

Health Care: The Home stress focus on Hygiene and Health of thechildren. Proper infrastructure is in place . Part time Doctor and FullTime Nurse is on the roll. Interns comes regularly from Maulana AzadMedical College.

Yuva Connect Program� Mission:

� To establish juveniles/children in the society by providing them quality education and vocational training.

� Goal: The overall goal of the aftercare program is to ensure a safe and independent life free from crime through skill enhancement, and independent life free from crime through skill enhancement, income generation and mainstreaming to society. As well to develop and implement a holistic and integrate program of after care for juveniles in conflict with law. Goal is also to stimulate and consolidate community by participation through the formation of the self help group and community based organizations.

old.� Upon entering Prayas the juveniles had varying education levels: one of the

juveniles was illiterate, most had only received some level of primary had reached the 9th standard.

� The juveniles had committed different types of crimes, ranging from petty crimes (such as theft) to rape to murder.

� Prior to entering Prayas, most of the juveniles had been living with their parents – one child had been living alone, one had been living with his brother and one child had been living with friends.

� 150 children have been rehabilitated in our after care program.

� These children have been placed for work and some have been mainstreamed into schools.

� There were 50% children addict of drugs they have been linked with De-addiction program and they got benefit out of it.

� They have been provided support from police harassment.They have been provided support from police harassment.

� They have participated in “Run for children” recently organized by Prayas and 5000 children ran in favor of child to children for disadvantaged children, and in this way they are more responsible and proactive member in the society.
