Downtown Sumatra and Midtown Caff—to their historic

lineup of coffee. These use dark roasted Sumatran beans

for a bolder and unforgettable taste.

The Downtown Sumatra is intense. The bold mustiness, characteristic of all Sumatran beans is mixed with deep notes of caramel and cocoa.

The roast profile of the Sumatran Blends is considered dark. The dark roast means that it is roasted longer than blonde or regular roasts. This practice matures the beans and intensifies and evolves their flavor to enhance certain properties, such as spiciness and earthiness.

The 1918 Midtown Caff is for individuals that want the best of both worlds. They don’t want the full buzz from coffee, but need a slight kick that decaf won’t bring. The Midtown Caff is a combination of regular and decaf coffee. It is a blend of the Vassilaros & Sons Classic Decaf and a blend of the 1918 Downtown Sumatra.

Vassilaros & Sons has been roasting coffee for almost a century. It was founded on bringing New York City the coffee it deserves: a high quality, fresh and consistent cup of coffee. What is brought to the cup is a time-tested guarantee of dedication and passion that is always consistent.

The 1918 Downtown Sumatra and the Midtown Caff are different from the Vassilaros & Sons Classic and the Classic Decaf Blends due to the different types of beans used. The type of roast is different and the flavor is more intense.

The coffee is roasted daily on-site at the Vassilaros & Sons factory in Flushing, Queens, and goes through a series of steps before it is delivered to you. First, the beans are blended by John Vassilaros before being moved to the roaster, where an experienced roastmaster watches them mature. The roast is altered and adjusted daily to take weather conditions into account.

Premium coffee is coffee made with unique beans that are roasted with extra care. Premium beans are grown in select geographical locations, such as Sumatra.

Measure 2 tablespoons (11 grams) of ground coffee for every 8oz of filtered water. Then bring water to just below boiling (under 200ºF) and pour over the coffee. For best results, drink within 20 minutes of brewing and do not reheat the coffee.
