LEARNING OBJECTIVES Provide training to introduce/reinforce understanding of the following learning objectives: Understand the purpose and requirements of PDI’s Lockout/Tagout Policy How to conduct proper lockout/tagout procedures o Preparation for lockout/tagout o Sequence of lockout system procedures o Restoring equipment and/or electrical supply How to ensure safety on the jobsite TRAINING GUIDELINES Before Training Familiarize yourself with the content Assess trainee’s understanding of content (beginner, moderate, advanced) Plan your training approach accordingly (hands on, lecture/philosophy, etc.) During Training Utilize training references (trainer manual, policy, etc.) Ensure trainee is attentive and follows along with their iPad Facilitate training using the Tell, Show, Do & Ask Model o Tell: Communicate what the expectation is o Show: Demonstrate how to complete the activity/process o Do: Allow them to perform the activity while you direct and provide feedback o Ask: Follow up immediately to ensure they understood the expectation After Training Play the Lockout/Tagout training video to reinforce expectations Have trainee sign the Lockout/Tagout policy and issue hardhat sticker Remind trainee how to access the Lockout/Tagout policy on the training websites

PURPOSE

TRAINING CONTENT
OVERVIEW |Lockout/Tagout
REMEMBER: SAFETY IS PRIORITY #1!
The purpose of PDI’s Lockout/Tagout policy is to establish the minimum requirements to control hazardous electrical energy on all PDI jobsites* *Reference: PDI Lockout/Tagout Policy
PDI’s Lockout/Tagout policy should be used to ensure conductors and circuit parts are: disconnected from sources of electrical energy locked (tagged) tested before work begins where employees could be
exposed to dangerous conditions
All team members are expected to abide by the policy:
PDI employees ITR Team employees Vendors and/or Subcontractors while on the jobsite
LOCKOUT/TAGOUT PROCEDURES
PREPARATION FOR LOCKOUT
Review current drawings, tags, labels, and signs to identify and locate all disconnecting means
Determine power is interrupted by a physical break (disconnect, switch, breaker) and not de-energized by remote means such as a push button or photo cells
Review disconnecting means to determine isolation of power and if a visible open point is available for verification
Select lockout/tagout devices that will effectively prevent
disconnecting means from operation

According to OSHA, following proper lockout/tagout procedures prevents an estimated 120 fatalities and 50,000 injuries each year!

PREPARATION FOR LOCKOUT, cont.
Review other work activity to identify where and how other employees might be exposed to sources of electrical energy hazards
Ensure an adequately rated voltage tester is available to verify that the equipment is de-energized Establish a method to determine that the voltage tester is
operating satisfactorily
Verify that properly rated PPE per NFPA 70E is available
Ground the phase conductors or circuit parts before touching them where the possibility of induced voltages or stored electrical energy exists
Most equipment installed by PDI only requires an arc flash PPE category of 2
Reference current construction schedule and discuss conflicts with the GC

SEQUENCE OF LOCKOUT SYSTEM PROCEDURES
Notify affected workers of lockout/tagout system and hazards associated with electrical energy
Confirm the location of the disconnecting means for all sources of electrical energy and the location of all sources of stored energy
Lockout/tagout all disconnecting means with lockout/tagout devices
Use a hasp for additional locks if more than one person is working on the de-energized equipment
Attempt to operate the disconnecting means to determine if operation is prohibited

Wear PPE as required per NFPA 70E
Install grounding equipment/conductor device where required to eliminate induced voltage or stored energy
Ensure function of the tester by using a known live circuit
Test locked out equipment to ensure it is de-energized
Confirm tester functionality using a known live circuit
Begin work once the equipment and/or electrical source is locked out/tagged out
RESTORING EQUIPMENT AND/OR ELECTRICAL SUPPLY TO NORMAL CONDITION
Visually verify that the job or task is complete
Remove all tools, equipment, and unused materials and perform appropriate housekeeping
Remove any grounding equipment/conductors/devices
Perform any quality control tests on the equipment and/or electrical supply

REMEMBER: Follow 5S procedures!
Verify proper torque values of all nuts, bolts, and lugs

Remove any lockout/tagout devices Return LO/TO to Lockout/Tagout kit for future use
Notify affected workers that the equipment and/or electrical supply is ready to be returned to normal operation
Return the disconnecting means to their normal condition
JOBSITE SAFETY
Enforce safety requirements daily in order to: reduce injuries/time lost increase productivity ensure quality installations
All PDI employees, ITR crew members, and 3rd party subs must: abide by PDI’s Jobsite and Lockout/Tagout policies
wear proper PPE at all times
notify management of unsafe conditions
Be sure to lead by example with all PPE and safety standards!
REMEMBER: Safety on the jobsite is everyone’s responsibility!
