Donna wanted to honor her mother, noted quilter Nina Maxine Green Groves, and celebrate her Appalachian Heritage. The first trail located in Adams County, Ohio became a reality in 2011. Since that time, Quilt Square Trails have spread to numerous Ohio counties and other states in the nation. They attract quilters, barn enthusiasts, agrarians, artists, historians and other tourists. The first meeting was held in a livery stable on South Main Street in Bowling Green where the Federal Building and Post Office now stand. Carroll Frank, 1910-2000, of Bowling Green was a member of that first club and remembered the day well. “I can remember the day I got my first Jersey calf. It was April 19, 1919 and several loads of cattle were brought into the livery stable. We each drew for our calf and I got a beautiful little Jersey heifer.” Later, Carroll became an advisor of that club in 1931 and gave continuous leadership for seven decades. While traveling along the trail, we hope others will see the beauty of our county, gain insight into our agricultural roots, and learn about the many fascinating businesses and tourist attractions Wood County has to offer. Each block is marked in the lower right hand corner with our signature block to signify it is part of the 4-H trail. We ask all visitors to please respect the rights of the farmers and property owners who so generously made their buildings and grounds available for this project. Please visit wood.osu.edu, click on 4-H Youth Development to learn more about the Wood County 4-H program.
