Determining the Correct FR Fabric for You

Too often the question is asked: “What is the best fabric for my application”? Unfortunately, there is no perfect answer for this question. FR fabrics and garments are designed to minimize wearer injury when a momentary exposure to an Arc or Flash Fire occurs. They are not designed to with-stand juel fed �ires or continual burn, such as structural entry or �ire�ighting applications.

Remember: Anything that is exposed long and hot enough will eventually carbonize and burn.

Secondary FR protection will allow the wearer a few sec-onds of escape time after the initial exposure takes place. Because very few tests have been conducted outside of a controlled lab, it becomes nearly impossible to determine variables such as ambient temperature, body temperature, humidity, breath-ability of fabrics, working distance from an energized part or ignition source.

Made of 8.5-ounce �lame-resistant canvas, a blend of 88% cotton and 12% high-tenacity nylon, it features a 6-ounce twill face cloth lining. It also has two lower front pockets, two inside pockets with FR hook-and-loop closure for arc protection, Nomex® FR rib-knit cuffs and waistband and brass zipper with Nomex® zipper tape.
