Measurement of the track geometry.
Measurements have done EN 13848 standarts.
So measurement saparate two topic,
1) Geometric measurement
2) Dynamic measurement

1) Geometric Measurement
This measurement have done seven parameters,
a)Location
b)Right Longitundial level

MEASUREMENT OF TRACK GEOMETRY GEOMETRİC MEASUREMENT
MARCH 2015 Research, Planning & Coordination Department 5
a)Location: Location seen Kilometers Location + Meters Location
For example 300+450, means measurement location is 300 Km and 450 meter.
b)Right Longitundial Level: Means; increase the kilometre direction, on right rail of track measure two point height level difference.
c)Left Longitundial Level : Means; increase the kilometre direction, on left rail of track measure two point height level difference.
d)Rigt Alignment : Means increase the kilometre direction, espeacially in to curve right rail and straight line right rail two point versine deference.
e)Left Alignment : Means increase the kilometre direction, espeacially in to curve left rail and straight line left rail two point versine deference.
f)Twist: Means cross section surface three point is true dimensions but one point is not true point.
g) Cant :Means in the curve diffrense height level of short rail and long rail.
MEASUREMENT OF TRACK GEOMERTY MEASUREMENT TOOLS
MARCH 2015 Research, Planning & Coordination Department 6
Expectations of a measurement vehicle
Track measurement vehicle that be attuned to today’s technology
must take into account amplitude and phase convinience when
measuring.
Measurement vehicles with multiple functions
In last years there is a certain inclining to multiple function
vehicles.
These vehicles measure the track parameters while considering
them at the same time.
It is logical that all paramaters that belongs to other specialties is
measured by one vehicle .

TRACK MAINTENANCE DESCRIPTION
MARCH 2015 Research, Planning & Coordination Department 17
Description
The track besides static and dynamic forces that effects the railway from track geometry operation loads, air condition and other foctors (like chemical and nature effects) effects the track.
Tracks have certain life cycle and in case of pass that time, tracks must be renewed or maintenance with railway maintenance machines.
The track measure and the faults find on the track than maintenance machines use solve this fault.

TRACK MAINTENANCE MACHINES TRACK RENEWAL TRAINS
MARCH 2015 Research, Planning & Coordination Department 19
Track renewal trains
Track renewal trains changes rails and sleepers swiftly.
Track renewal train starts operation with enough sleepers
loaded to sleepers vagon. There is one empty vagon on
that train. Existing sleepers lifted to this empty vagon with
the support of crane. This crane lifts the new sleepers to
machine and machine lay the new ones to track. At the
same time the machine change rail on the track and lay
the new rail to the track.

TRACK MAINTENANCE MACHINES BALLAST CLEANING MACHINE
MARCH 2015 Research, Planning & Coordination Department 21
Ballast cleaning
Ballast cleaning machines takes polluted ballasts on
tracks and cleans ballast with sieves on the machine. It
lays the standard ballast ( 2-6 cm ) to the track and rolls
out the non-standart ballast and unclean materials.
It provides elasticity to track.

TRACK MAINTENANCE MACHINES DYNAMIC TRACK STABILIZATOR DGS
MARCH 2015 Research, Planning & Coordination Department 23
Dynamic track stabilizator DGS
Parameters that ensure track stabilizasion effect are,
Stabilization frequency
Hydraulic cylinder which effects vertical force to stabilization
aggregate
Process speed
Dynamic impact force
The first three parameters are configured freely on work process
however, dynamic impact is figured by stabilization aggregate’s
eccentric loads.

Tamping Machines
Tamping machines repair of longitundial level fault,
alignment fault, cant fault and twist fault on track. First
machine give axes and than repair it special tamping
unıts.

MARCH 2015 Research, Planning & Coordination Department 30
Effects of stabilization frequency
Volume compressing with dynamic tamping stabilizator
Compressing between two sleepers and ballast shoulder
compressing is less effective then stabilization. Because
stabilization effects whole ballast area. It’s called volume
compressing. Volume compressing effects x-y-z axis.
Operation tool of stabilizator machine holds two rails with
vibrating aggregate. It applicates vertical load and track
vibrates horizontally.
Operation frequency could be figured as 0 or 45 Hz.
Generally it’s figured as 28-35 Hz.

TRACK MAINTENANCE MACHINES RAIL GRINDING MACHINE
MARCH 2015 Research, Planning & Coordination Department 32
Rail grinding
Rail grinding shapes the rail as a new profile. It prelongs
the rail lifecycle. Rail grinding should be done after rail
amplitude reaches 0,05 mm for economic reasons.

TRACK MAINTENANCE MAINTENANCE STANDART AND WARNING LIMIT VALUES
MARCH 2015 Research, Planning & Coordination Department 34
Maintanence standart values and warning limit values
Values evaulate with EN 13231 Standarts.
Values called three forms IL, IAL, AL
When certain standard values crossed, There will be need a
plan for maintanance as soon as possible.
When certain warning limit values crossed, error point must be
repaired or slow course area must be organized at that point.
For track lay-out maintanance standart and warning limit
values are shown in figure on the next page.
TRACK MAINTENANCE MAINTENANCE STANDART AND WARNING LIMIT VALUES
MARCH 2015 Research, Planning & Coordination Department 35
For rail distance limit values are in order shown table below.
On narrow radius curves there will be need excessive rail
distance.
TRACK MAINTENANCE RAIL HEAD SECTION PROFILE MAINTENANCE ST. VALUES
MARCH 2015 Research, Planning & Coordination Department 36
Rail head section profile maintanance standart values
Intervene in the rail head is possible only if the defect effects
the high speed course, rail wheel or rail durability.
