• Possible changes in the project manual based on first reporting exercise

WP2 – Communication and information

• Project communication campaign for autumn 2010 under preparation

• Activation of political and business networks

– Survey among transport and logistics business executives run by Baltic Transport Journal

– A database of business contacts (business network) to be constructed

– Survey in WP3 to target politicians

• Need to establish a network of communication officers!

• Involvement in the work of EU BSS Chapter 11 Coordination Group

• Stakeholders Cooperation Forum in connection with the Annual EU Baltic Sea Strategy Forum (14-15 October 2010, Tallinn)

WP3 – BSR as a transport gateway area

• Task 3.1 transformed to an ongoing activity (inventory report to be regularly updated)

• Swap between tasks 3.2 3.3 (coordination need with the Baltic Transport Outlook)

• Foresight debates in task 3.3 launched already in period 1, with altogether 5 events planned till end of May 2010 (incl. one in Russia); preliminary scenarios developed and presented at the debates

• Specification of possible case studies in task 3.4 to be compiled based on task 3.1 report and outcomes of the foresight debates, and to be presented at the WP3 meeting in September 2010

Task 4.1 – Challenges for Baltic ports

• First debate (Sopot, Poland, 11 May 2010) dedicated to barriers and challenges in introducing the MoS concept in the Baltic Sea

• Among ca. 40 participants – representatives of ports, transport operators and administration

• Debate report with conclusions to serve WP3 process

• Next debate possibly in late 2010 or early 2011

Task 4.2 – Human capacity building in transport operations

• Survey on needs and driving forces for human capacity building in transport operations

• Kick-off meeting planned in October 2010

Task 4.3 – Transport sustainability and green corridors

• Seminar with participation of corridor projects planned in Gdansk on 16 September 2010

• Aim: to present the inception report on implications of the EU transport policy on the development of sustainable transport in the BSR

• Umbrella activities in the task – discussion with EWTC II and Scandria on division of labour in investigating green issues in particular corridors

• Further cooperation with the Swedish Ministry envisaged

Task 5.1 – Dry port development

• Dry port seminar in Falköping, 14-15 April 2010, giving a start to individual case studies in the project areas (Lahti, Hamburg, Warmia-Mazury, Västerbotten) following an example of the Port of Gothenburg

• Detailed action plan serving as a guidance to those case studies and allowing for benchmarking

• Status report and draft implementation plans ready in PP3

Task 5.2 – Empty container management

• Literature review and surveying towards a manual on empty container management

• Success of awareness actions among stakeholders to determine a shape of future implementation platform

• Ongoing process to lead to a start-up of actual implementation in PP3

Task 5.3 – Deployment of ICT toolbox

• Seminar with participation of the freight market stakeholders scheduled for 10 June 2010

• First part dedicated to use demonstration of the ICT tool for planning intermodal supply chains (based on actual market data gathered from freight transport operators active in Hamburg – Poland transport corridor)

• Second part focusing on intensification of rail transports from Poland to Scandinavia as ILIM’s input to Task 5.5

Task 5.4 – Competence Management System in harbour

logistics

• Second MA-CO and EMA workshop in Tallinn scheduled for 21 May 2010 - based on EMA’s investigation on further needs for action in harbour logistics

• 3rd workshop planned

• Adjustment work for CMS software to match future requirements (e.g. utilisation by EMA)

• Kick-off meeting in Hamburg planned in PP 2

Task 5.5 – Rail transport solutions for N-S and E-W flows

• Conducting interviews with selected relevant stakeholders

• Identification of possible contributors to improve rail cargo transport

• Intermediate report with preliminary conclusions to be presented Strict cooperation established with Task 5.3 back-to-back meetings)

• Next task 5.5 meeting will be held on 0-11 June 2010 (Poznan), back-to-back with task 5.3 meeting
