On February first, at the To-vushi Center, a group of Survivals

from World War II, gathered together to show support for peace in Israel. In this event Simon Pinkhasov, a film di-rector, introduced us to a very interesting and unique film; Sports and Peace. The participants in the film were mostly Israeli and Arabs. Throughout history, a small territory in the Middle East named Palestine was a colony of England where many Arabs and Jews were living in. Two different cultures, two different beliefs and traditions. Yet, they all shared one territory, they lived under the Britain control, desired peace and each practiced its own culture. Nevertheless, both the Jews and the Arabs were facing many obstacles living in a society so complex. They spoke different languages and they had different understandings. Since they both were living under the Britain control, they had no choice but to accept one another. Accepting each other was the toughest part; they were enemies even before the Common Era. No one was ever going to give up. Adults at home from those two cultures delivered their children hater for one another. Therefore, children grew up into a society where neither Jews nor Arabs were accepted and so they fought and still fight today over a small but well developed country named Israel. However, why do we need this war?, why do we hate? Kill each other and suffer? Dont we have natural disasters, diseases and all sort of crimes that we cannot control and already hate? A very powerful documentary film Sports and peace produced by Simon Pinkhasov convey that having a peace between the two, is possible, if both are willing to compromise. Sport was founded as one of the greatest ways to do so.

As many scholars believe, war does not improve economy and health which are the most powerful necessities in our lives today. In his documentary, Simon Pinkhasov, traveled

across Israel and cross the boarders of Jorden to find out that there are people out there from both cultures, that dont just believe in peace, but they also live in it. Simon Pinkhasov, was introduced to an individual named Buma Inbar, an Arab, who was born in Israel. In his youth, Buma Inbar, participat-ed in the war of 1967 (Six Day War) and 1973 (Yom-Kippur War) together with the Israelis against the Arabs. In 1995, he lost his son Yotam that was killed in an action while in Lebanon. Buma Inbar is a social worker that organized two soccer clubs for children in the name of his son; one is in the Israeli territory and the other one is in the Arabs vil-lages mostly are in the West Bank. Inbar made both teams play with each other against each other. He had this special technique to eliminate the hate and made the Israeli children mix up with the Palestinian children and created a new team. In the film, six children; three Jews and three 3 Arabs were asked the same question: What do you want to be when you grow up? They all had the same answer. This is because they are all human, children and they all want the same thing. Yoni Yaccobi and Aziz Ha are coachers in that organization. In this film, Yoni Yaccobi, an Israeli coach, was telling us that most of the Arab children dreamed of seeing the Dead Sea. There-fore, he had organized many trips to Tel Aviv with hundreds of Arab children.

As a kid, Danny Hakim, was born in Australia, practiced Karate, then moved to Japan, to pursue Marshal Arts and the movement of Buddha which means a pathway of under-standing. In 2006, Hakim created a karate clinic in Tokyo. Hakim, believed that Arabs and Jewish children can practice and connect with each other through Marshal Arts. Therefore he brought it to Israel as well. People thought I was nuts, people thought here is another fernier with great ideas of making peace in the world, ok. Said Danny Hakim. It took

me some time to come and try create a model where Jewish and Arab kids could come together, using buddu as Marshal Arts. Diya Hamed, an ambassador of Egypt attended a ceremony of Buddha of peace in Herzliya, Israel to show support for the idea of living in a peace. I think it is a genius idea, it really is an amazing opportunity, to bring children together, to feel that feeling of coexistence. Thats why I am here today. Hakim, observed the children, and realized that they are all doing the same thing, dancing and playing with each other just like the other children in Japan and Australia. Jewish and Arabs children were apparently able to get along. Interesting. Hakins organized a big ceremony in Japan, where he was accompanied by Palestinian and Jewish children. Hakins organization, carried with them one flag only, which was the flag of Buddha for peace. Apparently, since there was no flag of Palestine, and no flag of Israel, few Arab children were isolating themselves, they did not want to match on to the other Jews because they were afraid that the people from their villages will misunderstand the flag, and will think that they perform under the Israeli flag. It was a re-action of fear. Fear of their own people. I want you to know that if you dont participate, one, we are stopping Buddha for peace in your town, two you are on your own, and three, you are a thieves. You have taken the money to come on this trip for two and a half weeks in Japan and you dont want to cor-porate. Said Danny Hakim. Then they agreed to participate, we did this. It was amazing. 10,000 people standing as one nation in the Olympics.

Swimming is another example of unity. Few injured and disabled young guys, who had practiced swimming all their lives, formed an Olympic team. This team is made of Ar-abs and Israeli. Leor, a 33 years old, an Israeli citizen who was born disabled. We have here different religious, social backgrounds we dont really know, because we dont really care; from Orthodox Jews, Jews, Muslim Arabs and Christian Arabs. said Leor. There were many stories of Israeli young guys that were sharing their injuries. Terrorists entered my house, they killed my mother and my three brothers, I lost my right leg, um, I got three bullets straight to my leg Said Daniel. When I was in the hospital, the manager came to me and told me to come to the center to see what they have to

offer and start swim-ming. said Daniel. He came, he began to swim and he loves it. Muhammad was a member at the swim-ming center as well. His experience at the center was slightly different than the others. He was not ac-cepted socially among the other Israelis at first, until they began to act like a team and compete against other swimmers. Later on, they began talking about each others lives and shared common interests. I was going to the airport and then they do a passport check, a gone check and a knife check and all these. Then I had a belt on, and its beeped. So they tell me, oh you are Muhammad; they thought I was a terrorist or something. Until my coach came in and told them that I am a part of the team. Said Muhammad Hes a very nice guy. said Daniel. Hes a good kid.

So just like the kids in the United States, the Israeli kids and the Palestinian kids want peace among them and get along. This is because they are ignorant about the political issues, and all they want is to be a kid. Therefore, why cant they have it? Do we need to be hurt in order to understand the meaning of peace and friendship between two nations? Do you have to be a victim of war? If we will compare other na-tions such as Japan, China, Germany and Arabic nations, why is that in Japan, China and Germany the technology has been much more advanced than many of the Arabic nations? Think about it, if we will advance the technology in those small nations, such as morocco maybe people there will be focused on other things and will have a different prospective on the world. There is not such a thing as fairness, but it could be, if we make it happen.

FC Tovushi just received second place in a soccer tournament (Champions league). This tournament was played with in the last three Sunday's. We started off a little rocky, but once the kids got into playing they started winning games

and enjoying themselves more. One of our very own Ben Ruvinov won defensive player of the tournament. It was easy to see the fact that all the kids are having fun and enjoying learning how to play soccer properly. The tournament ended with the kids playing a soccer game with parents. Which was fun for both the kids and the parents. All in all the kids and the parents had an amazing time

during this tournament.
