Residents are embracing the winter fun. The recent cabin-fever bash (pictured) included a friendly Road Hockey game (with resident and former professional basketball referee Tom McClocklin overseeing the game), snow sculpting, musical entertainment, and winter drinks. A local news station also covered the event. Later, residents welcomed the 2014 Winter Olympics with an indoor floor curling event. National Curling Hall of Famer Cathy King threw the first rock. Welcoming new Life Enrichment/Wellness director

Joan Drake (pictured left) has joined the Touchmark team and will oversee the award-winning Full Life Wellness & Life Enrichment ProgramTM. Brenda Edmonds Joan Drake (pictured right) recently retired from the position, and the community gathered for a celebration to honor her.

Joan recently served as the recreation therapy assistant at Alberta Health Services and Ponoka General Hospital and Care Centre.

“I have a passion to work with older adults and firmly believe in offering choices and advocating independence and respect,” says Joan, who has a Recreation Therapy diploma from Norquest College and Working with Dementia Clients Multidiscipline Certificate from Fleming College.

Joan has also also worked at Good Samaritan Society as a recreation therapy aide and served in activation and restorative care at Haliburton Highlands Health Services.

In her free time, Joan enjoys camping, swimming, hiking, weight training, and doing family-tree research.

A cause for celebration. Those celebrating their birthday month were honored with a song and a candle on their cake.
