Shanghai Elevator Trade Association (SETA) was established in 1988 and now has 302 member units, including 42 elevator enterprises, 118 elevator component companies and 146 elevator maintenance companies. President and vice president companies are: Shanghai Mitsubishi Elevator Co.,Ltd., Kone Elevator Co.,Ltd., Shanghai Otis Elevator Co.,Ltd., Hitachi Elevator (Shanghai) Co.,Ltd. , Schindler (China) Elevator Co.,Ltd., Yungtay Elevator Equipment (China) Co.,Ltd., Toshiba Elevator (China) Co.,Ltd. and so on. The association is also honored as the AAAAA industry association by the municipal government.

Shanghai is the economic center in China and Shanghai represents the Chinese elevator development trend. Shanghai Mitsubishi Elevator Minhang Factory, is the largest specialized producer of elevators in the world. It has produced 73,000 elevators in 2014. Another famous member unit is Schindler Shanghai Jiading Factory, the largest specialized installer of automatic escalators all over the world, which has

installed 12,000 escalators in total in 2014.

It is also the most concentrated area of the world elevator industry with an annual production and sales

of 300000 elevators, 95% of which have been sold across the country and around the globe. The predecessors of Shanghai Mitsubishi Elevator Co., Ltd. were Shanghai Airlines First Worker Technical School and Shanghai First Technical School. In 1969, two schools merged and were built into a factory, namely Great Wall Machinery Plant, which was renamed as Shanghai Great Wall Elevator Factory in 1981, and the factory became one of the backbone elevator manufacturers in China.

In January 1987, Shanghai Mitsubishi Elevator Co., Ltd. was established, which is a joint venture invested by four parties, including Shanghai Mechanical and Electrical Co., Ltd., Mitsubishi Electric Corporation(Japan) and others; the investment of Chinese side and that of foreign side accounted for 60% and 40% of the total investment respectively.

The total investment in the company is 200 million US dollars. The company covers an area of 273,300 square meters, and a floor area of 193,600 square meters, with more than 2,100 staff members currently.

In 2014, its sales of elevators reached 73,026 units, generating an operating revenue of RMB 17.3 billion Yuan, hit a record high since the establishment of the company. Since the founding of the joint venture, the company has manufactured and sold elevators of 530,000 units accumulatively; since 1993, the main operation performance indicators realized by the company stand out in China elevator industry for many successive years. 03On December 13, 2014, Elevator Installation Maintenance (level 4) Operation Skill Appraisal Examination was held in Yungtay Elevator Shanghai. There were totally 31 enterprises and 334 examinees. Other examination sites were Mitsubishi, Toshiba,

Schindler, Hitachi and Shanghai Technical College of Urban Management. The numbers of examinees who took part in the examination are larger than last year. The training teachers of SETA, the staff from Yungtay training center and the experts from all cities were the assessment personnel of the skill appraisal examination. The section chief of Yungtay training center, Wang Changjun led their staff to cooperate with the teacher of SETA actively. They maintain the order and discipline. On September 25, 2014, Shanghai Elevator Trade Association held elevator export enterprises’ meeting. Nearly 30 enterprises’ official leaders, who are responsible for export business, attended the meeting. With the continuous development of the elevator industry in China, the amount of the elevator export of China in 2013 has reached more than 66,000 units, increased by 19.12% than last year. More and more elevator enterprises go abroad and expand overseas markets.

The SETA office director, Qin Jiong, chaired the meeting. He analyzed the current situation of elevator exports, and provided enterprises with lots of useful market data and customs data. SETA’s director of the network department, Jiang Ying, introduced the elevator management mode of some developed countries, and

reported the progress of work in overseas development in recent years. Finally, the manager of China Export & Credit Insurance Corporation, Lu Zhengyi, introduced some situations in export credit insurance.

The principals of nearly 20 installation and maintenance elevator enterprises attended the meeting. At the meeting , the deputy secretary general Jiang Ancheng reported nearly three years’ accidents of life in the installation and maintenance of Shanghai Elevator Trade Association, as well as the related analyzed the data, such as month, time, age and so an , and the main nature of the accident . On Jan. 13, the first-phase factory of Edunburgh Elevator (Yichang) has been put into production in Hubei. This means that Edunburgh Elevator has taken one more step toward the strategy of “one center, six bases”. After the project being put into production, Edunburgh Elevator will provide the entire Chinese market with safer products and more excellent services.

Edunburgh Elevator has invested 280 million yuan on this project. The project covers an area of 75 mu and is the only production base of Edunburgh Group in central China. After the project being put into production, there will be 4000 sets of elevators and escalators annually. The production capacity of mechanical parking garage will arrive 1000. Then the production of

the Yichang factory will reach the international advanced level, and all products of Edunburgh Elevator will keep the same standard with the global.

In the past two years, Edunburgh Elevator has won nearly 300 elevator orders. According to the planning of Edunburgh, the Yichang factory has won nearly 1000 elevator orders and will produce 600 sets of elevators in 2015. In 2016, the Yichang factory will produce 2000 sets of elevators and the amount of orders will reach 4000.
