Torque Converter Rebuilders Association March 2010 Issue 6, Volume 8 [email protected] www.tcraonline.com PLATINUM SPONSORS: Monthly publication of TCRA newsletter provided by Melissa Hall T ransmission C ertified A s we’ve been reporting, this year’s semi- nar will be held in Dayton, Ohio on May 21st, 2010-May 22nd, 2010. Consolidated Vehicle Converters has graciously wel- comed the entire TCRA organization to be guests and tour its facility as the first por- tion of this year’s agenda. The classroom setting will take place at the Hilton Garden Inn on Saturday. This hotel is approximate- ly 30 minutes from the Dayton airport and 15 minutes from CVC. The seminar fee includes transportation to the plant tour of CVC on Friday, lunch, Saturday classroom seminar and steak lunch. A reception will also be held Satur- day evening with a cash bar. Election re- sults will also be announced during the member meeting. For members, seminar fees are set at $225 for the first attendee and discounted rate of $175 for each additional attendee. Elections are next month: Have you made your nominations? Mark your calendar, important deadlines approaching Election ballots will be included in the mailing of next month’s newsletter, but you still have time to make a nom- ination. Currently, we have seven can- didates running for a position on the Board of Directors. They include: Don Randolph, Ed Lee, Julie Maynard, Rick Morris, Tim Prugh, Larry St. Amand and Dennis Sneath. Even though this list already makes the decision diffi- cult, we are encouraging members to continue nominating candidates until April 1st, 2010. This is when the nom- ination period will close and the final ballot will be mailed to each member for voting. Procedure Interested candidates can self-nomi- nate or nominate another member by sending an email to Len Wack at lenw@ embarqmail.com. If you do not have access to email, you may send your nomination via US mail no later than April 1, 2010 to Len Wack at 96 Deck- ertown Tpke, Montague, NJ 07825. All nominations will be confirmed by telephone. Voting Each dues paying member will get only one vote. It will be assumed that members will vote at the annual semi- nar held this year in Dayton, Ohio. Not knowing if all members can attend the seminar, provisions for voting prior to the seminar will be made by mailing your vote to Len Wack, no later than May 1, 2010. This will ensure that all votes count. Holding a position on the board gives you a chance to become more in- volved in the evolution of the organi- zation. Not only are you a voice for other members at monthly meetings, but you also have the opportunity to contour and mold the organization’s path during your term. We are look- ing for participants who are ready to brainstorm and make a difference. This is hardly a beauty pageant, so if chipped nails lead to emergency man- icures and missed board meetings, leave this role for those who want it. As described in last months article, “Wel- come to the 62TE,” we mentioned the importance of damper disassembly for proper cleaning. It may sound like extra, unneeded machine work, but the final product will leave you amazed. After several years of rebuilding Chrys- ler 41TE torque converters, I was sure we were doing an adequate job of cleaning. Midwest Converters, Inc. recently par- ticipated in an ultra sonic cleaning test performed by AeroMotive Research, a Rockford-based testing, verification and 62TE Damper Cleaning Part 2 certification company. After disassembly of one of our 41TE con- verters, photos and documentation were provided from AeroMo- tive Research for me to review. They uncovered nearly 12 grams excess metal that was removed from our converter, a nearly unimaginable act. After all, we thoroughly cleaned this converter before assembly. Nevertheless, facts were facts; the debris came from our convert- er. After close examina- tion we discovered the Spring retainer For nonmembers, seminar fees are set at $275 for the first attendee and $250 for each additional attendee. You can make ar- rangements with Len Wack by calling (973) 293-8925 or by emailing Len at lenw@em- barqmail.com Hotel arrangements can be made by contacting the hotel directly. You can still benefit by booking early and receiving our TCRA group rate of $99.00 (just mention the TCRA); however, this rate expires April 20, 2010, so don’t wait until the last min- ute to book. You don’t want to miss out on this great opportunity.
