Toronto Public School Newsletter Quality and excellence… Learning together 5/02/2020 Dates to remember Dear parents and Carers Welcome to the 2020 school year! We are looking forward to another fantastic year with our students and are delighted to welcome new families and new staff to our community. We have welcomed 27 beautiful little people into Kindergarten and 12 new students to other classes. TPS does a wonderful job of helping our new students feel welcome. I ask that as a community we extend that welcome to their parents and carers. We have welcomed two new staff members to our team. Miss Fairhall will be taking 5/6 F this year and Mrs Cox will be our RFF teacher four days per week in Term 1. Mrs Cox will then be working with 5/6 R when Mrs Robinson takes her maternity leave. I have every confidence that the children working with these lovely ladies will be nurtured and encouraged to strive for personal best. During the holidays, magic happened for our pre-schoolers enrolled in Early Intervention. Mrs Harris, who taught in a temporary role in 2019 has now been made a permanent member of our TPS staff. We are excited about the expertise and passion Jodie, brings to this role. This year we have added an additional class to our mainstream. This class has been established at school cost, as our primary classes were very large. The additional class will support teachers in their efforts to personalise learning for every child. One of our exciting initiatives this year is to establish a playgroup for our community. The playgroup will meet in our hall on Monday afternoons from 1:30-3:00. If you have little ones at home please come along. This is a great way to build friendships within the community and to encourage social play for our little ones. We are happy for you to spread the word through the community and extend this welcome to families who wish to enrol their little ones in the future. Playgroup will begin next Monday, February 10. We are seeking your support to keep TPS a peanut free environment. This has been encouraged for a number of years however this year it is imperative that this is the case. One of our new students has a severe allergy to peanuts and due to a heart condition cannot have an epi pen. This means that exposure to peanuts (she does not have to actually eat them) is life threatening for her! Our teachers have explained this situation in classrooms and have been asked to monitor children during eating time to minimise this risk. If your child brings food containing peanuts to school, they will be asked to take it home. Quite heavy rain is predicted for our swimming carnival this Friday, if this forecast doesn’t change, we will hold our carnival later in the term. We will let you know, when we do! Book Packs for 2020 The provision of book /stationary packs to the students as part of the school fees was very successful last year. As a result we will be providing them again in 2020. The cost of school fees is $45-00 and as in previous years a large portion of this will be used to purchase the book pack. We are able to provide the items eg glue, scissors, books, pencils and pens etc at a much cheaper rate. This is excellent value for money. Families will not need to provide any stationary items.

P&C News A big hello to all our new and returning families for the new year. Our canteen will re-open on Wednesday the 12th of February (week 3). A huge Thankyou to Shannon Burns who is not only our treasurer but has also taken on the role as our Canteen Supervisor for the year. Our canteen cannot operate without the help of some wonderful volunteers. If you can help out for a few hours in the morning on a Wednesday, Thursday or Friday either weekly, fortnightly, once a month or even just once a term please call in see the office or Shannon in the canteen. You can also send us message through our P&C Facebook page. Our uniform shop is fully stocked and open on a Monday, Thursday and Friday from 8.30am for all your uniform needs. Alternately uniforms can be ordered online through Quickcliq. Please keep an eye out on the P&C Facebook page for more information regarding our first P&C meeting for the year. We will be covering fundraising ideas for the upcoming year at this meeting. All welcome

Robyn Pollock I am Robyn Pollock and I am the Learning and Support Teacher (LaST) at TPS.

I have had the pleasure of teaching at Toronto Public School for 10 years. During this time, I have fulfilled a variety of teaching roles, including working with individual students as the Reading Recovery teacher for 3 years.

In my early years of teaching, I taught at Cabramatta West PS and then taught at 2 International Schools on Bougainville Island in Papua New Guinea.

I enjoy travelling and photography and have been lucky enough to visit many amazing places, both in Australia and overseas. Last year I visited the UK and cruised from South Hampton to Norway, so incredibly lucky to journey above the Arctic Circle and see the Northern Lights.

In 2020, I will be supporting and building the skills of targeted Early Stage 1 and Stage 1 students to help them reach their potential as readers, writers and mathematicians. You will also find me in the KF and K/1T classrooms delighted to be guiding Science investigations and encouraging Music and singing talents.

It is always a pleasure and a privilege to work with the students, parents and staff of Toronto Public School and to be a part of this warm and friendly community.

Welcome to KF

It has been an exciting start to the year for Kindergarten. I enjoyed getting to know the students during their Best Start appointments on Wednesday and Thursday. Friday was the big day, their first day of Big School! The students had a taste of what it is like to be in a classroom where there is lots of learning happening. This year KF are going to be the Busy Bee’s and we are looking forward to working hard in our classroom, which is nicknamed the Hive. We have a wonderful bunch of kids starting their journey at TPS and we look forward to helping them grow and achieve all throughout the year. From all of the Busy Bees, we hope you look forward to sharing our successes in 2020.

Welcome to K/1T!

In K/1T we work really hard every single day. Our brains get sweaty from all of the learning that

happens in our classroom!

Some of our favourite things to do include reading groups, maths games, sport and social play on Friday afternoon!

K-6W News

Welcome to 2020!

We are very excited for a new year, in our new classroom! K-6W have a fabulous year ahead, with lots of fun activities planned. We have 8 students this year, ranging from Year 1 to Year 6. We’ve had a few little changes… Ms Leah is our SLSO for the entire day in Term 1. On Thursdays, Mr Lee Turner-Mann will be our teacher while Ms Wilson is working in mainstream classes for ICT. Mrs Goss will be having us for library on Tuesday afternoons, and Mrs Harris will be spending some time in our classroom too. We’ll be using Class Dojo as our main communication tool between home and school, as well as our regular chats when we see you at school. It’s been lovely to welcome you all back to school. We missed those gorgeous smiling faces!

From Ms Wilson and Ms Leah

Welcome to 1-2W!!

We are very happy to have Mr West as our teacher. Our class is known as the “1-2Winners”. In 1/2W we focus on working hard, working quietly and trying our very best in every task we do. We make sure we follow the school PBL rules and the Bluey 5 rules every day in class and in the playground.

Hello from 3/4E! Our class is excited to start a new school year. This year 3/4E will continue working on our school values: Learning, Respect and Safety. In aligning with these values, students will learn and participate in daily Literacy and Numeracy sessions, along with other Key Learning Areas. Our classroom will be a fun and safe place to learn, where students respect others and themselves.
