Topic Sentences

A topic sentencetopic sentence is a statement that tells what your paragraph

will be about.

Topic Sentences

A good topic sentencetopic sentence does two important things.

1. Helps you stay focused on the topic of your paragraph.

2. Helps readers to know what your paragraph will be about.

Parts of a Topic Sentences

A topic sentencetopic sentence should: • State the topic

• Include or summarize ideas

1. Look at your bubble map.

2. Ask yourself: “What am I writing about?” The answer to this question will be your topic.

3. Ask yourself: “What do I want to say about my topic?” The answer to this question will be your ideas.
