TOPAZ/TOPAZ PLUS ACUTE MEDICINE FORMULARY Diamond Health Services would like to thank doctors and pharmacists for their indulgence in dealing with the uncertainties surrounding the medicines covered/not covered until now. This medicine list is released as a guide to prescribers and dispensers. It is understood that there will always be cases where exceptions need to be made and when that happens, dispensers are advised to discuss this with our office. Although it is believed that the items listed here are available on the Namibian market, no guarantee is given that all these items listed will remain available in future. While specific generics have been listed, the list is not exhaustive and similar generics, not specifically listed, are also acceptable. As much as we emphasise the use of generic medication, and the least expensive generic in a group for that matter, where the originator drug is better priced than generics, it is recommended that the originator be issued. Prescribers and dispensers are, once again, reminded that Topaz/Topaz Plus is an entry-level, primary care option of NMC. For this reason, colleagues are urged to remain mindful of the cost factor. The product was developed to provide basic/primary private health care to the employed who previously could not afford medical aid premiums. The product has genuinely affordable premiums and aims to cover members and their dependants throughout the year with BASIC SERVICES. We have left out the frills that do not always contribute significantly to the health of people, more than being nice-to-haves, as well as care that would ordinarily be secondary level. We therefore appeal to your good sense in keeping the service at an acceptable level and to avoid pushing the costs up by “doing business as usual.” By definition, this document remains “work in progress” and your comments are welcome at all times. DHS reserves the right to bring out updates at any time and while all efforts will be made to ensure that it is widely distributed, contracted service providers are advised to endeavour to obtain the latest version. Diamond Health Services would like to thank doctors and pharmacists for their indulgence in dealing with the uncertainties surrounding the medicines covered/not covered until now.
