Top 7 Back Pain Ayurvedic Treatments - Swasthya AyurvedaBack pain is a very common and widespread medical condition. As someone who has suffered from it for several years,
I've found many remedies in Ayurveda. Ayurveda is an ancient Indian healing method that is re-emerging after being
suppressed for so many years by British rule in India.
I teach about the root factors of the lower back and other different kinds of pain using Ayurvedic principles. The
remedies listed below have been incredibly beneficial to me because they address the fundamental causes of pain,
which Ayurveda characteristics to an excess of Vata dosha, a fundamental body component.
The individual body — and the world around us — are made up of 3 fundamental constituents, each of which is made
up of a unique combination of the five great elements: ether, air, fire, water, and earth. Pitta dosha is made up of fire
and water, while Kapha dosha is made up of earth and water. Vata dosha is made up of ether and air, and it is the dosha
that is most commonly associated with lower back pain.
The remedies listed below help to reduce Vata dosha and thus relieve pain, especially back pain. These are their names:
One of the main aspects of Vata dosha is its coldness. This is why, born and
raised in Ohio, anytime I walked outside in the winter, my pain would
instantly worsen, regardless of the fact that I could not really connect the
cause of the coldness and its impact on pain at the time. Because Vata is
associated with cold, the cold weather in Ohio increased Vata in my body,
resulting in lower back pain. Do you know how when we're sick, we always
want to be snuggled up in our bed? The warmth factor, which also applies to
pain relief, is an important component of this comforting picture.
1. Stay warm
Consumption of extremely peppery spices in your food, like as
red and green chilies and wasabi, can lead to dehydration.
Because dryness is one of the primary characteristics of Vata
dosha, drying substances can cause constipation as well as back
pain due to stool stasis.
3. Eat warm foods
Cold foods and beverages enhance Vata dosha, which causes pain due to
the principle of like increasing like. Coldness creates constriction and
congestion in the body, whereas heat causes advancement and allows
the stool-carrying pathways (called srotas) in the body to stay open,
enabling us to eliminate our food as efficiently as possible. And less pain
means better elimination.
Padahastasana (standing forward fold pose) is an outstanding yoga posture
for lower back pain because it promotes optimal Vata dosha flow
throughout the body, stopping constriction of the stool-carrying channels,
which causes digestive problems and lower back pain. When Ayurvedic
clients have lower back pain that is not due to muscular issues, we highly
suggest this pose to help with elimination. When I've had difficulty
removing and then succeeded, I've observed that my lower back pain has
left my body at the very same time as the stools.
5. Use body oil
My lower back pain has always been aggravated by stressful events in my life. Stress,
exertion, depletion, and tiredness, according to Ayurveda, all increase Vata dosha, and too
much accumulated Vata dosha leads to premature aging as well as suffering in different
parts of the body, especially the lower back.
As the foremost part of the body of Vata dosha, the skin is equivalent to a leather bag. When
this leather bag becomes extremely dry, it breaks and can even completely disintegrate;
however, when oil, the very same bag can sustain itself. Lightly massage your body with
warm sesame oil before taking a hot shower to keep your skin healthy and powerful,
prevent aging, and relieve lower back pain.
6. Drink Bishop's weed seed tea
Bishop's weed seeds (also defined as Ajwain seeds in Hindi) are widely
available in Indian markets and many health food stores. This Ayurvedic
spice is greatly useful for pain and constipation, and it can be consumed
safely by anyone who is not experiencing heat-related signs. When I
have lower back pain (usually during my periods), I make and drink
Ajwain seed tea. It relieves pain right away.
7. Play around with alternate nostril breathing
This Pranayama (breathing exercise), also defined as Anuloma Viloma, is the most helpful
breathing exercise for Vata dosha balance. It is extremely beneficial for lower back pain and other
pain-related Vata dosha situations such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and others.
The practice cycle for alternate nostril breathing is as follows: Lift your right hand up toward your
nose to close your right nostril. Close your left nostril with your fingers after exhaling through it.
Finally, exhale through your right nostril. After inhaling through the right nostril, close it. After
opening the left nostril, exhale through it. You may repeat this cycle as many times as necessary.
If you follow the advice in this article, you will be able to say goodbye to years of unnecessary
