power your productivity
The cordless Cleco screwdriversare the latest tools in the seriesof innovative products for C classtightening. High quality, lessweight, excellent tightening performance and easy handlingmake them essential for manyapplications in the automotive in-dustry and the general industry.
The deliverable battery tools with a
torque range between 1 and 12 Nm
complement the well-known Cleco fas-
tener-portfolio and are following the
wish of many users for a lighter, handy
fastener with strong performance and
a long lasting battery.
With a weight of only 1,17 kg including
the battery, the models of the new fas-
tener series belong to the lightest bat-
tery tools in their category. Due to their
patented contours of the grip with soft-
grip-layer, they lie perfectly in the hand.
Additionally, the tools are well balanced
because of the optimal position of the
battery at the lower end of the grip. The
fastener can also be placed on the bat-
tery in between two work steps.
With only one battery charge (10,8 V
MAX Li-Ion battery) up to 2.000 cy-
cles are possible applying a middle
hard joint. The tool is ready in an in-
stant due to its ultra-fast charging
time of only 30 minutes.
The easier two-way switch is mana-
geable with one hand and therefore
promises more handiness. Also the
¼ inch hexagon chuck with quick
changing feature can be loaded with
only one hand. An integrated LED-light
makes work even more efficient by
lighting the tightening spot.
Like the new compact in-line fastener
series, the pistol version also offers a
color mark to provide a visual control
of the predefined torque. A protective
cover avoids accidental change of the
torque.
With the third generation of the low-
vibrating patented MSC clutch, one
million clutch cycles can be guaran-
teed. A cm of > 1,67 at a tolerance of
+/- 10 percent emphasized the high
quality of this product series.
High quality standards, cost ef-ficient processes and maximumproductivity are key factors inthe modern production. Thecordless tools of the Cleco Live-Wire series fulfill the most mo-dern standards and offerprocess safety on the highestlevel. At the same time, they areflexible due to a powerful bat-tery.
As a strong complement of the current
product portfolio, the Apex Tool Group
now introduces the new and utility pa-
tent protected Cleco LAN fastener. The
specialty of the tool, available in steps
between 3 and 13 Nm as a pistol and
5 and 70 Nm as a angle version, is the
power supply by a 48 V Power-Module
LAN Box. It is connected with the usual
in-house power supply (85-275 VAC)
and creates a data transmission to the
controller via Ethernet. Alternatively and
for more flexibility, a connection of the
tool with the controller via dLAN is pos-
More power, more flexibility and higher productivity

New Cleco 19er-SerieAccuracy, durability and pro-ductivity are the most importantfactors to the customers in theautomotive-, general and avia-tion industries.
The new Cleco 19 series screwdrivers
released in October 2011 matches
these factors perfectly. The new
screwdrivers will replace the Cleco 5,
14, 8, 88 and 35 series screwdrivers
and will be available in pistol, inline and
right angle configurations as shutoff
and stall versions.
The current Cleco products already
hold a strong reputation for durability
in the market which has even been im-
proved. With the latest product line, a
better accuracy was also addressed
for all joints and pressure combinati-
ons. It fulfills as well the ergonomic re-
quirements of the customers.
Striking innovations can be found in
three tool parts: the ergonomic hou-
sing design, the single hand reverse by
trigger and the modular replaceable
grip. Efficient air management and in-
ternal signal kit routing are the most
important improvements for the hou-
sing design. The reverse by trigger en-
ables one hand operation and reduces
cycle times as well as damage re-
spectively repairs. For the ergonomic
P&T-handle design lower repair costs
and reduced tool weight are the out-
standing modifications.
On the Motek fair, the Apex Tool
Group will present two models, the
19PTA5Q (P-Handle Trigger Start)
and the 19RAA07AH2 (Right Angle).
Finally, the following product lines
will be deliverable:
Inline PTS:
torque range 0,2 to 5,1 Nm, speed
range 260 to 2800 RPM
Inline Lever Start:
torque range 0,2 to 5,1 Nm, speed

sible as well. Consequently, the time and
effort to install the Ethernet cables is eli-
minated and a change of the production
process is definitely easier to realize.
Up to 16 of the new LAN/WLAN tools
can be connected to the Global Con-
troller. The new technology enables an
increase in productivity of the pistol ver-
sion compared to battery tools (with
26 V battery) of up to 50 percent (Free
Speed RPM). For the angle version, pro-
ductivity can be increased compared to
battery tools (with 26 V battery) by
even 80 percent (Free Speed RPM). Ad-
ditionally, there is a cost reduction of
33 percent comparing a LAN tool-solu-
tion (one controller for four spindles) to
a four-spindle DC version (one control-
ler per spindle).
This is the perfect tool solution for
safety critical tightening applications
with the highest flexibility in the auto-
motive industry, in the aviation industry
and in the general industry.

The most impressive feature ofthe latest Cleco LiveWire Tool inangle design is its weight - thescrewdriver is staggering 400 glighter than its predecessors with-out having any performance loss.
Its 2,4 GHz or 5 GHz Wifi interface as
well as highest security data encryp-
tion and authentification levels plus a
512 cycles tool memory buffer en-
sure also for this model series the se-
curity of a guaranteed transmission of
safety-critical data.
The youngest LiveWire model is of
course equipped with all proven functi-
ons of the series regarding precise
torque-, rotational angle- and speed
control for safety-critical screw joints
packed in an ultra-light and thus high
ergonomical variant.
With 1.000 tightening cycles per bat-
tery load and the integrated fast loa-
ding option, the power during an safety-
critical assembly will never run out.
LiveWire has been developed and tes-
ted for the use in a rough industrial
environment. Also for the latest fas-
tening tool series – as for all tools of
the LiveWire series and the corded
models of the 18/48 series – the
new up to one million cycles mainten-
ance-free angle heads series is availa-
ble as an adaptive module.
Just in time for the Motek2011, the Apex Tool Group is in-troducing a new generation ofCleco angle heads for the pro-ven Cleco LiveWire and cordedEC tools. The new Cleco anglehead series optimizes both toolsseries in performance and pro-ductivity. Together, they provideultra-precise torque-, rotationalangle- and speed control forsafety-critical screw joints.
The combination of optimum features
is making the new angle head series
developed by the Apex Tool Group a
new milestone for safety-critical
screw joints. The new generation of
angle heads impresses with optimized
torque ranges of 8 to 230 Nm, new
materials, a precision gear unit of hig-
hest quality and running smoothness
as well as highest accuracy (cm >
1,67 at +/- 7 percent tolerance). It
thus offers the operator more secu-
rity and maximum productivity.
With a lifetime of more than one mil-
lion cycles, the new angle head gene-
ration is maintenance-free. Even after
one million cycles, the newly utilized lu-
bricant shows no significant detri-
mental effects.
Furthermore, the angle heads have
been enhanced regarding an optimi-
zation of weight and available sizes as
well as the adaptability to Cleco Live-
Wire and EC tools. This provides addi-
tional flexibility in the choice of a tool,
enables a simplified handling in addi-
tion to the increase of capabilities. The
new intermediate sizes allow an indivi-
dual adaptation for any fastening ap-
plication, no matter if a standard- or
special solution is required.
”With the new angle heads, we strive to
offer our customers the best solution for
any application“, says Andreas Kowol, Ma-
naging Director of the Apex Tool Group in
Westhausen. All aspects relating to featu-
res and functionality of gear unit, bearing,
lubrication and housing have been tho-
roughly tested and brought to perfection.
The result is an optimal tool solution for the
customers and their products, setting new
standards regarding productivity, ergono-
mics, maintenance and security.

Flexibility and fast cycle times arethe main characteristics of robotcontrolled assembly processes.Reducing the number of move-ments and of the actuators nee-ded makes such processes highlycost-efficient. Recently, a team ofthe Apex Tool Group has develo-ped a socket changer for DGDtightening systems using built-inscrewdrivers type BB or intelli-gent spindles type BTS in size 1or 2 for the efficient assembly ofmotor parts in the automotive in-dustry.
First customers have already imple-
mented the new system successfully. In
a specific example, the DGD spindles
are mounted on a robot to fasten
screws on a workpiece in different,
free-programmable positions. To be
able to change the sockets during the
process without delay, the socket
changer – a compact quiver for diffe-
rent socket sizes – is positioned directly
at the work station. The robot arm can
plunge the spindle into the quiver where
the sockets will be changed instantly.
The for utility patent protection opted
system is able to change the sockets
only with the already active actuators –
robot and spindle. This brings a poten-
tial of energy and cost saving compa-
red to conventional systems which
would need additional actors for the
procedure. The exchanger can easily be
controlled by a combination of the al-
ready active robot-, MPRO- and SPS-
control system.
The compact DGD socket exchanger
measures 200 x 180 x 150 mm and
exceeds additionally with low purchase
and maintance costs. The basic model
is designed for fastening systems with
two adjustable spindles, it is modular
extendable for three or more stationary
screwdrivers and for more sockets per
screwdriver.
1/2 " square, 7/16 " or 5/8 " hex adapters
allow the application of conventional
sockets for the system.

Speed, precision and flexibility –especially at fast robot move-ments – are the most importantrequirements for robot-compati-ble tools. The new Cleco robot-compatible built-in screwdriverwith its compact design hasbeen developed to perfectlymeet these requirements.
Its compactness makes the tool entirely
suitable for tight installation spaces and
fast robot movements. The screwdriver
has been customized primarily for
robot systems in assembly lines which
require an extraordinary freedom of
movement where cable connections
are impossible to use.
The battery usage, either 26 V or 44 V,
offers extra mobility and flexibility and
makes unnecessary cable connections
superfluous. This saves additional drag
motions during the process. The new
screwdriver is available in a series of 3
Nm to 35 Nm.
The operating performance of the new
tool meets the standard of the proven
Cleco LiveWire series. An integrated
Wifi data transmitter enables a broad

power supply allow an optimal moving free-
dom around your work place.
Additionally, the mobile assembly station
offers several storage possibilities, such
as laterally for up to three EC hand faste-
ners. After end of work, the tools or the
working material can be stored in four
lockable drawers. Also the electronic com-
ponents can be locked separately in the
cabinet.
The most outstanding feature of this mo-
bile assembly station is definitely its con-
nectivity with multiple tools and its
environment. The controller mPro-400 SG
with the 12” industry PC allows the appli-
cation of up to three EC hand fasteners
and additionally up to five battery tools. Di-
verse interfaces for intelligent torque
wrenches, for printers, for scanners or
Ethernet and WLAN as well open up ver-
satile application possibilities in the entire
production process.

At the Motek 2011 in Stuttgart, the Apex Tool Group introduces– besides a broad portfolio ofother new products – the inno-vative, TAG based tool controlCleco Simple Tether.
Its assignment is the process control
despite of high worker’s freedom.
Cleco Simple Tether allows the control
of one or several tools in a defined
room by the installation of an appro-
val secured controller.
It can be applied to supervise the “tar-
get tool available?” function on a work
place, for example the exterior or in-
terior of a car in production. Accor-
dingly, this way e.g. left and right
vehicle side can be secured separa-
tely. The system also works when app-
lying the tools in the vehicle interior. It
does not create a position mapping
related to the tightening spot.
The process area supervision is based
on wireless technology. The tags are
clearly identifiable. In the most ordinary
case, the supervised room can be set
up by a transmitter. Its character would
be determined by an antenna. Additio-
nally, stepless sensitivities can be
appointed to realize a simple imple-
mentation on the site. More complex
rooms can be influenced by employing
different antenna characteristics and
by the number of transmitters.
Altogether, Cleco Simple Tether is a
cost-effective and absolutely flexible
way to supervise processes.
ced installation costs and the increase
of productivity. Even during breaks, re-
location of work places and changes of
cycle time within the assembly line can
be realized easily.

Premium Standard for pulse tools
The new Cleco Hybrid-Pulse-Tool series PTHHProductivity, quality and ergono-mics play an important role whenchoosing the right tool. The newCleco Hybrid-Pulse-Tool seriesPTHH in steps between 11 and120 Nm fulfills all this criteriaand sets standards especially inthe field of tightening quality.
A six-sigma Md-tolerance of < 10 percent and a cm/cmk of > 2 at +/- 10 percent tolerancemake the new pulse tools abenchmark in this segment.
One of the most important innovations
of the tool is the speed control to opti-
mize the performance which avoids an
early shut-off at a high tightening speed
for hard joints. For the process control
with TVP, a signal interface is also sche-
duled.
Due to the low air consumption at neu-
tral gear, the noise level at neutral gear
is considerably lower as well. All faste-
ners of the series are also equipped
with an exhaust control to set the pre-
ferred pulse rate for hard joints.
The optional possibility to chose bet-
ween an air supply from the top or the
bottom of the tool allows an ergonomic
application at the site. An automatic oil
buffer supply enhances the period of
service intervals by factor 5, meaning
that 500.000 cycles are possible till
the next service interval. The pulse
unit with fluid level display additionally
gives an optical signal for preventive
maintenance. A refill time for the oil
buffer of less than one minute em-
phasizes besides the qualitative and
ergonomical also many productive at-
tributes of the tool.
The new tool series fulfills the test cri-
teria according to VDI 2649 for pre-
tension measuring and is available at
the beginning of 2012.
A large new family of pulse tools is new benchmark in this segment, the PTHH Seriesincludes 12 pulse tools with air on top or through the grip.

Our hands are our most impor-tant tool. Therefore, they alsoneed special protection. Especi-ally when changing a tool, a highsource of danger occurs if e.g.a gap opens up pulling in a partof the body, a glove or a piece ofcloth. Consequently, accidentshappened that could have beenavoided.
The established brand Apex now offers
the optimal solution: the Apex Quick
Change Chuck. This cover can be used
for tools that have to be changed often
and fast. It rotates freely and can be
stopped while the tool is still moving.
Accordingly, the source of danger is eli-
minated without influencing the functio-
nality and maximum safety is
guaranteed.

With the DGD Retrofit Concept, tightening technology moderni-zation becomes an economicalalternative. By replacing outda-ted components and addingnew, modern technological ad-vancements, existing tighteningsystems are brought back up tothe date.
Especially for existing functioning tighte-
ning systems, a DGD retrofit concept
can be beneficial. The advantages for
the system operator are obvious: A
modernization of the system with DGD
retrofit and the related increase of se-
curity and stability result in increased
productivity at significantly lower cost
compared to the purchase of new
equipment.
Key factors of the concept are suitabi-
lity, cost and time. The DGD Retrofit
Concept is suitable for the following
tightening systems:
m-Pro-300/de; m-Pro-500; m-Pro-400
(BLS-Technology); m-Pro-400tm and all
DGD Modular Spindles.
Reasons for a DGD Retrofit Concept of tightening systems:
• Rising quality problems of the system
• Decreasing productivity of the plant
• Performance deficits due to wear-related disorders
• Increased demands on the functionality
of the system
• Rising maintenance costs
• Low productivity

In times of a substantial shor-tage of skilled workers, the ApexTool Group gives a sign and stri-ves to be a first choice em-ployer. The company with itsEuropean headquarter in West-hausen thus supports scholarsand students already early ontheir professional path of life.
The HR- and education departments
offer the young people numerous pos-
sibilities to find one’s way in the enor-
mous diversity of professions.
Professional orientation can already
start during school time. The Apex Tool
Group is offering a helping hand with
scholar internships on the one hand,
on the other hand with vacation jobs in
the different departments.
The amount of open positions grows
continuously. Young people starting at
14/15 years of age can apply all year
long to the Apex Tool Group. If there is
still a doubt about the specialization, in-
terested young people can inform
themselves during a yearly Apprenti-
ceship Day on the site. Additionally, se-
lected teachers in cooperating schools
can give more information. Apex ap-
points its internees and vacation job-
bers in technical and commercial
areas and they take over responsible
tasks from the very beginning.
Having found the right specialization,
the company will be offering ten
apprenticeship positions in 2012 for
mechanotricians, cutting machine
operators, industrial administrators,
qualified IT specialists and logistics spe-
cialists. Awards for the heads of the
class show that the Apex Tool Group
holds interesting contents of teaching
for them. Besides, it is intended to offer
a position after the apprenticeship.
Also for students a variety of opportu-
nities is offered within the company.
Spread over the year, internship positi-
ons are to be found on the Apex Tool
Group career website in the internet for
the different departments. The offered
internships are being audited by the
initiative “Fair Company” of karriere.de
lately. This also emphasizes the compa-
ny’s focal point on the interaction of
theory and practical experience.
Such an interaction is taking place di-
rectly with universities, too. Already
today, some productive associations
with well-known universities of applied
sciences and universities are in exis-
tence. These are supposed to be ex-
tended up to lectures directly in the
study courses with supporting materi-
als and visits of the site.
Of course, the Apex Tool Group offers
students support with their final pa-
pers, no matter if bachelor- or master
thesis. These papers are connected
with practical conceptual problems
which contribute to the development of
the company. Whether technical or
commercial field, the employees take
care of the future graduates compe-
tently and reliably.
Regardless for which education with
the Apex Tool Group one will decide, cer-
tain soft skills with all potential em-
ployees are appreciated. These soft
skills include capacity for teamwork,
communicative behavior, cooperation,
ability to give and receive criticism, mo-
tivation, positive work attitude, self-de-
pendent learning, sense of
responsibility, ability to work under
pressure, logical thinking and a good
educational background. In return, the
company offers a practical education
and interesting possibilities for further
training and professional development
in an international environment.

Consequently, the new trainees were in-
tegrated into the apprenticeship team
from the very beginning. To get this far,
one has to prove capacity for team-
work, ability to work under pressure
and a high level of motivation. Because
from the very first day, the new team
members are included 100 percent
extensively into the work processes.
Accordingly, they learn professional
skills as well as social competence.
The company Apex Tool Group in West-
hausen has offered apprenticeships
successfully for many years. Every year,
cutting machine operators and mecha-
tronic technicians start their apprenti-
ceship, every three years two logistic
technicians join them. The next possi-
ble start for all professions mentioned
before is on September 1st, 2012. Fur-
thermore, four additional apprentice-
ships will be offered for industrial clerks
and qualified IT specialists.
