The ToniCAL III measures online with the help of the software ToniDCA the generation of heat rate (J/g) in relation of the time of test. Measurements at other adhesive agents as cement and concrete up to 8mm gain size are possible. Advantages - rigid durable apparatus for industrial and laboratory use - high resolution and sensitivity - test of cement is possible without any limitation - test of concrete up to 8mm gain size is possible - simple handling - test procedure with extreme high information for pro- duct development - high reproducibility - recording and documentation and interpretation of the test results in numeric and graphic recording - self calibration system Design The ToniCAL III consists of a controller in a steel case and and the calorimeter unit with highly heat-isolated stainless steel cover. Into the controller the following features are integrated: - a triple step amplifier for the thermocouple signal - an electronic temperature controller for the heating of the calorimeter cell - a thermosignal indication for the inner cell temperature - the calibration unit Into the calorimeter unit the following components are integrated: - a measuring cell with the heating plates for placing the „dead“ sample and the test sample incl. all the necessary measuring points underneath the heating plates - one central and two radial working heating sources - the sample feeding unit for the „in situ“ mixing of the reactants in the thermo isolated sample test area - the measuring chain consists of multiple series con- nected thermosensors. The measuring chains bet- ween the „dead“ and the test sample are differentially connected. Working Principle A defined and weighted sample of cement/mortar has to be filled in the one way sample tray (dia. 90 mm). Then it shall be covered by a filter paper. The tray is placed on the heating plate inside the measu- ring cell. The tray is then closed by a cover with a guidance attachment for the water injection part. The measuring cell is closed by a fluid medium (regularly water) injection unit. The „dead“ sample part should consist of a similar material like the test sample and should be completely hydrated and/or reacted. After reaching the equilibri- um with the surrounding atmosphere the necessary fluid phase quantity will be added to the sample from outside. The test sample will be thouroughly penetrated and mixed with the fluid within seconds. The reaction heat is monitored as temperatu- re change from the very first moment onwards and recorded on the monitor. Parallel one can print the reaction curve and store the results. After finishing the reaction all data are available in a database for further comparison, storage and retrieving at any time. DesignThe ToniCAL III consists of a controller in a steel case and and the calorimeter unit with highly heat-isolated stainless steel cover.

Into the controller the following features are integrated:

- a triple step amplifier for the thermocouple signal

- an electronic temperature controller for the heating of the calorimeter cell

- a thermosignal indication for the inner cell temperature

- the calibration unit

Into the calorimeter unit the following components are integrated:

- a measuring cell with the heating plates for placing the „dead“ sample and the test sample incl. all the necessary measuring points underneath the heating plates

- one central and two radial working heating sources

- the sample feeding unit for the „in situ“ mixing of the reactants in the thermo isolated sample test area

- the measuring chain consists of multiple series con-nected thermosensors. The measuring chains bet-ween the „dead“ and the test sample are differentially connected.

Working PrincipleA defined and weighted sample of cement/mortar has to be filled in the one way sample tray (dia. 90 mm). Then it shall be covered by a filter paper. The tray is placed on the heating plate inside the measu-ring cell. The tray is then closed by a cover with a guidance attachment for the water injection part.
