TINY WINGS MADE OF HAIR

All the species of plants in the field of the face of the earth

pray and ask of the All-Wise Creator through their tongues

of disposition and potentiality:

O our Sustainer! Give us strength so that

by raising the flag of our species in every

part of the earth, we may proclaim the

splendor of Your dominion; and grant usprosperity so that we may worship You in

every corner of the mosque of the earth;

and bestow on us the power to spread

and travel in order to exhibit through our

particular tongue the embroideries of

Your Most Beautiful Names and Your

wonderful, antique arts.

The All-Wise Creator answers theirsilent prayer and bestows on the

seeds of one species tiny wings

made of hair: they fly away

spreading everywhere. They cause

the Divine Names to be read in the

name of their species. (Like the seeds ofmost thorny plants and some yellow flowers.)

ADORNED FLOWER and

CONFECTIONER FLY

Now consider a tiny object like a bee,

for example. The instant life enters it,

it establishes such a connection with

the universe that it is as though it

concludes a trading agreement with

it, especially with the flowers and

plants of the earth. It can say: Theearth is my garden; it is my trading

house.

All living beings, for instance this

adorned flower or that confectioner

bee, are Divine odes full of meaning

which innumerable conscious beingsstudy in delight. They are precious

miracles of power and

proclamations of wisdom exhibiting

their Makers art in captivating

fashion to innumerable appreciative

observers.

A YELLOW FLOWER AT A

HILL-TOP

One spring I was setting out on a journey, a

stranger, and deep in contemplation. While

skirting a hill, a brilliant yellow buttercup struck

my eye. It immediately brought to mind the

same species of buttercup I had seen long

before in my native land and in other countries.

This meaning was imparted to my heart:

whoever this flower is the seal of, the stamp of,the signature of, the impress of, all the flowers

of that species throughout the earth are surely

His seals, His stamps.

After this notion of the seal, the following

thought occurred to me:just as a seal stamped

on a letter denotes the letters author, in the

same way, this flower is a seal signifying theMost Merciful One. And this hillock which is

inscribed with the impresses of these species

and written with the lines of these plants so full

of meaning, is the missive of the flowers

Maker. This hill too is a seal. This plateau and

plain have taken on the form of a missive of the

Most Merciful One.

THE ONE WHO GIVES

ACQUANTINCE WITHFLOWERS

Yes, the One who

places in the tiny head of a bee the

ability and faculties to know the

flowers in the garden of the universe,

be connected with most of its

realms,

convey a gift of Divine mercy like

honey,

and know on the day it comes into

the world the conditions of life,can surely be none other than the

Creator of the entire universe.

THE TRUTH OF OPENING

(Fattahiyyah)That is, the opening up from a single

simple substance of innumerable varied

and separate forms, together, everywhere,

in a single instant and by a single deed,

through the manifestation of the Name of

Opener.

Yes, in the same way that Gods creativepower has opened up innumerable beings

like flowers in the garden of the cosmos,

and endowed each with an orderly form

and distinct identity, through the

manifestation of the Name of Opener,

so too, although in more miraculous

fashion,

he has given to the four hundred thousand

species of animate beings in the garden of

the earth each its symmetrical, adorned

and distinct form.

FLOWER and JUSTICE

(Adalah)And an eternal justice

places on all creatures their members with the

finest balance, and makes all of them

-, from a flowering plant to the flower of the

spring, which opens thousands of millions of

flowers in the spring-

with a beauty of art and balance

with no waste within a mutual proportion,

equilibrium, order and beauty;

it gives all living creatures their rights of life with

perfect balance,

and makes good things produce good results and

bad things, bad results;

and since the time of Adam it has made itself felt

forcefully through the blows it has dealt to

rebellious and tyrannous peoples.

ENFOLDED TABLES OF

UNIVERSEIt is as though the universe

consists of hundreds of thousands of

laden tables of every different kind and

sort,

all enfolded one within the other

like the petals of the rose and shirts ofthe maize cob.

With a multitude of various tongues,

particular and universal,

to the number of tables and the foods

they bear and their bounties,

these point out to everyone who is not

completely blind

a Most Merciful Provider,

an All-Compassionate and

Munificent One.

THE PERFECTION OF BEAUTY and

THE BEAUTY OF PERFECTION

(Jamaal and Kamaal)

those fine artifacts are adorned in a

way so agreeable, are decorated in a

way so sweet, display a beauty and art

so attractive,

that their maker could create these

works only through an infinite

knowledge.

He knows the best manner of

everything, and wishes to display to

conscious beings the beauty of

exquisite craftsmanship and the

perfection of its beauty.

For He creates and decorates the mostinsignificant flower and tiniest fly with

the greatest care, skill, and art, giving

them the greatest importance.

VENUS FLOWER

from the point of view ofthe

originality and eloquence in

their creation,

in relation to the power of the

universes Creator,

the Venus flower is not inferior to

the star Venus, the ant is not

inferior to the elephant, and a

microbe is more wondrous as

regards its creation than a

rhinoceros, and with its

marvelous inborn faculties the

bee is superior to the date-palm.

MEANS OF BEING KNOWN

and LOVED(marifah and muhabbah)

Ponder the exquisiteness and

smiles that flowers display to

make themselves loved by those

who look at them.

You will be convinced that theflowers, like other beings, are

charged by the Generous, All-

Wise One, with serving His

guests on Earth and facilitating

as the means of the Creators

being loved and known by His

creation.

UNIFORMS and BEJEWELED

GARMENTS

each day and each week of the

spring is like a festival for each class

of the vegetable kingdom, and each

class presents itself to the witnessing

gaze of the Pre-Eternal Monarch with

the jeweled decorations He has given

them, as if it were on parade in orderto display the fine gifts He has

bestowed on them.

It is as if all the plants and trees were

heeding a dominical command, don

the bejeweled garments produced

by God's artistry, put on the

decorations made by His CreativePower - flowers and fruit.

The face of the earth then comes to

represent a parade ground on a

splendid festive day, a magnificent

parade brilliant with the uniforms

and jeweled decorations of the

soldiers.

SOLDIERS WITH BAYONETS

When a vast army in the present age

receives the order, "take up your weapons

and fix your bayonets" in accordance with

the rules of war while on maneuver, it

comes to resemble a forest of upright

oaks.

Conversely, when on the parade-ground ofthe world, the various and infinite species

of the soldiery of the Pre-Eternal Monarch

- angels, jinn, men, animals and even

unconscious plants - receive the order of

Be! And it is in the struggle for lifes

preservation and the command, "take up

your weapons and equipment, andprepare to defend yourselves,"when they

fix the minute bayonets that are the spiked

trees and plants found throughout the

world, - then they resemble a magnificent

army advancing with bayonets fixed.
