NEWS RELEASE

March 16, 2015 EMBARGOED UNTIL APRIL 6, 2015, 8 A.M.

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Tom Green, writer and producer, performs on Wednesday at Columbia’s Deja Vu Comedy Club for the University of Missouri’s students during final examinations. Deja Vu Owner, Matt Istwan contracts Green to perform for college students during their final examinations in hopes to boost the morale of the students and to bring business to the club. Green brings laughs throughout his standup act. Green’s comedy is dry and entertaining. While talking about aspects on every day life, he makes comments about his lack of caring and interest. He’s a man who doesn’t smile in the majority of photos, so his attitude will fit in perfectly with the typical college student’s during final examinations. Deja Vu has been in Columbia since 1975. As a fantastic place to visit for great comedy and a great nightlife, the club has been a part of the Columbia tradition for 40 years. The club has held multiple famous comedians over the years, like Tim Allen, George Lopez, and most recently, Steve-O. For additional information on TJ Miller and the Deja Vu Comedy Club, please contact Matt Istwan, Deja Vu Comedy Club Owner, at 443-3216 or visit www.dejavucomedy.com.

NEWS RELEASE

March 16, 2015 EMBARGOED UNTIL MAY 10, 2015, 3 P.M.

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Comedian Tom Green brings pizzas and sodas to studying to students in the University of Missouri libraries on Saturday afternoon. Tom Green, a comedian, cheers up students by bringing them snacks while they study for their finals in the upcoming week. He shared a couple of jokes, a few slices of steaming hot slices of Domino’s pizza, and cool soda. Green began his pizza bringing tour at the Memorial Union at noon. There, he and his crew encouraged the students to take a twenty-minute break, take photos with the comedian, and have a bite to eat. After the twenty minutes, he continued on to Ellis Library where he invited the first flour down to the café for a similar break. His final trip was to the Student Center. There, he performed a few jokes for the students and invited everyone to his show on the upcoming Tuesday at the Deja Vu Comedy Club in Downtown Columbia for theFinals Freak Out Fest. “It’s a great show, man. I don’t know why anyone would want to miss the opportunity to see me standing on stage in all the lights and glory,” says Green. “I’m definitely worth the study break. I’m the real Tom Green.” This will be the first time the comedy club will be hosting the Finals Freak Out Fest. They hope that it becomes an event that happens every semester during finals weeks at the University of Missouri. Deja Vu intends to give students an opportunity to release some of the stress for finals with a bit of laughter and amusement. The club believes it is important to stay calm and relaxed during such a high stress period in a student’s life. “Students don’t go out like they used to when I was in school,” says Deja Vu Owner Matt Istwan. “Everyone spends too much time studying in the library. They need to take a break every once in a while and have a good time!”

The venue includes a 10,000 square foot nightclub with four rotating house D.J.’s that use the latest in sound and lighting effects. Déjà Vu also entertains during the warmer months with live bands on the 1,000 square foot patio and the entire venue is home to ten televisions, including a big screen in the comedy lounge. The Vu is two levels of nightlife complete with three separate bars and attending waitresses during comedy performance to fulfill any of your food or drink requests.

The club has won Inside Columbia’s “Best of Columbia’s” nightlife award for 2009, 2011 and 2012. Their club has been able to hold shows featuring many different comedians, including Tim Allen, George Lopez, Larry the Cable Guy and most recently Steve-O. They have a DJ, a professional photobooth, and the capability to host group events.

Because of their strong beginnings in 1975, Déjà Vu has kept their business running by continuing to provide comedy and a nightlife atmosphere to its customers. Currently, they provide the only live stand up comedy in Columbia, Missouri other than the performances at the University of Missouri. They are able to bring a variety of comedians into the club from big name comedians to comedians just starting out.

In the realm of comedy clubs, Déjà Vu offers a more inexpensive ticket than other clubs throughout the country. They also are able to have great package options. Usually these include a free drink, VIP passes to meet the comedian, specials on extra drinks and on occasion, free tickets to a future show. Déjà Vu decided to shut down certain nights in order to cater to groups. They close their doors to the public to make an exclusive evening for different groups, usually from the University of Missouri. These groups include Greek life events, such as date parties, Mom’s Weekends and chapter bondings, and some of the small colleges on campus, such as the Veterinary School.

Release Your Stress with Laughter

We’ve all heard the old phrase, “laughter is the best medicine.” There have been a countless number of studies done to prove this very fact. It is good to laugh. It makes you feel better, and there are health benefits too.

This theory goes back to the 13th century. Doctors or medicine men of the time would us humor to distract their patients from the pain they were in. Now, we know that when you laugh, you inhale a lot more than when you don’t. This extra oxygen boosts your heart, lungs and muscle function. There’s also the added bonus of having extra endorphins in your brain. These make you happier and feel less pain.

When it comes to stress, laughter really is a great way to bring that stress down. With the extra endorphins, you definitely feel better. With your muscles relaxing and with the extra oxygen, it is easier to get into that study groove. It promotes relaxation even in tough, uncomfortable situations. It also produces a general sense of well being leaving a student calmer, cooler and more collect while taking an exam.

You don’t have to laugh your way right to the classroom, because laughing produces long term effects, not just short term. Laughing can improve your immune system, so the risk of being sick during your examinations is smaller. This is great because it’s most likely that your eating habits and sleeping habits are thrown off due to the final examinations. Laughing can also relieve pain. This means less painkillers to go along with the headache from studying and staring at a computer screen for so long. One of the best benefits though would be that it overall increases your personal satisfaction. It helps you connect with others and be happier with your life. Even though passing classes is extremely important, it’s also very important to be happy and keep up with your friends, family and loved ones.

There are many ways to laugh but to fully take advantage of these benefits, you’ve really got to laugh. It’s got to be that sides aching, snorting, choking because you can’t breathe sort of laughs. We’ve come up with a few ways for you to find this laugh.

1. Laughter Yoga. This sort of yoga was created in 1995 bu Dr. Madan Kataria. This laughter is created without jokes and without comedy. You first must find a group of people. They can be friends, roommates, strangers, or whomever you please. One person just starts laugh. Then the laughter just spreads contagiously.

2. Try to laugh without smiling. If you’ve never done this one, we highly encourage you to try it with a group of people. You’ll try to succeed, but most likely, you’ll end up laughing a lot with a smile on your face.

3. Attend the Finals Freak Out Laugh Fest at Deja Vu Comedy Club with Tom Green. If you know anything about TJ, you know that your stomach will be in pain with the amount of laughter that will be done in the time of his stand up special. Get your tickets online or at the Deja Vu box office.

With these few tricks, you’re bound to reap the benefits. You’ll achieve great things. Whether they be getting that A on your hardest final or simply showing up on time. No matter what you do though, make sure you keep laughing!
