Daily Post can also confrm that the Minister o Public Util- ities, Harry Iauko, has author- ised both o his vessels- MV Kaona and Christie Leigh to operate in Vanuatu or a peri- od o fve years and that there are no discrepancies over own- ership o the two ships reerred to. Mr Beldon made headlines in the Indy last weekend and inormed Daily Post that on April 1, 2011 Actin g Minis ter o Internal Aairs, Marcellino Pipite, reviewed the Principal immigration Ofcer’s decision not to renew his visa. Using powers conerred under chap- ter 7 Section 58 (5) (b) o Act, minister Pipite as acting minis- ter responsible or Immigration granted Mr Beldon an interim vis a or ou r months commen c- ing on April 1 which was last Friday. The minister’s decision was based on the act that the Principal Immigration Ofcer (PIO) did not elaborate on the grounds or his decision as pur- suant to the Act on his letter o cancellation o his extended vis a. In a letter dated March 28, 2011 to Mr Beldon which was cop ied to the Min is- ter, DG and 1st PA o Inter- nal Aairs, Commissioner o Police,Commiss ioner o Labour , Attorney Gener al, VIP A CEO, Ports and Harbours Principal Licensing Ofcer and customs Director, the Principal Immi- gration Ofcer, Francois Batick, stated that Mr Beldon came to V anuatu on 28 Dec emb er 201 0 under an extended visitor visa. This visa was subjected to the Immigration Act (Cap 66) section 29 (1), that states that an extended visitor’s visa can be granted or a period o less than 12 months , but more than 30 days. The PIO advised Mr Beldon that he is in Vanuatu under an extended visitor’s visa and is deemed to be illegally engaged with illega l activities , adding that the Australian Investor’s company “Dream Time” is ille- gal. PIO Batick stated that in accordance with the Immi- gration Act section 47 (1)() as visitor Beldon breached the conditions o his extend- ed visitor’s visa and cancelled it with eect as o March 28 and advised him to make every possible way to leave Vanuatu immediately.
