PONDERING
Sometimes I am asked what I will miss and not miss when I retire. Last Friday gives a brief snapshot of both
realities. Right after dropping my car off for servicing I had a business meeting in the school. The topic was
who owes tuition and who should get tuition aid for next year. I will not miss these kind of meetings. Later in
the morning I had to figure out how would I approach commitment weekend for the capital campaign. I will
not miss asking for money in retirement.
Later, the same morning, I had brunch with our young mom’s group. I will miss this group because it has
provided for me many opportunities to be present to young moms. I have enjoyed providing support for them
in their critical role of parenting. In early evening I watched our school soccer team play at St. Andrew’s.
Following this I thoroughly enjoyed watching the school play “Alice in Wonderland”. I will really miss these
gatherings where I can be present in a relaxed setting in our school community. So these, in a nutshell, is
what I will miss and not miss being the pastor of St. Luke’s.
Fr. Bob
Thank you to the nearly 50 families who have already signed up to use our new Faith Direct platform for parish giving. Fr. Brian has set a goal to get 200 of our families signed up for the service by July 1st so that he can impress the new pastor! If you haven’t been able to sign up yet and utilize this new service, please consider doing so. It allows you to use your credit card or checking account and contribute to St. Luke’s Parish right online You can be sent offertory cards to place into the basket each week and easily track or change your giving without having to call the parish office. The annual H.O.M.E. Mission Bake Sale will be held the weekend of June
9/10. This will be the first year that Sr. Lucy will not be here with us. She has retired and we want you to meet a few of the people that are in charge of the mission, now. The
H.O.M.E. staff will bring their homemade crafts. We are asking for your faithful support.
REMINDER: If you have not yet picked up your parish directory, you may do so Monday-Friday (9:00-5:00) at the rectory.
THE MOST HOLY TRINITY
Parish Outreach is now collecting spring and summer clothing. For health reasons, we ask that your gently used clothing be cleaned. Tuna fish is also being collected this month for the pantry at Assumption parish. Thank you.
We are looking for new or gently used books for
Hasbro. Please do not leave books in the ushers closet that are not appropriate to these requests: ie: adult or damaged books. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and generosity. Also, if anyone would like to donate eyeglasses for the Lions they can leave those in the bin in the ushers closet as well.
PARISH BUS!
As you may have noticed, behind the rectory, we now have a Parish Bus! The bus was purchased for the use of all ministries of St. Luke’s Parish. So far the Youth Group has used it on a couple of trips, as well as the parish school. The H.O.M.E. Mission will be using it for the Maine trip in August and there’s some talk of perhaps the Young-At-Heart group using it for a trip to the movies or PPAC. If you would like to use the bus as part of a St. Luke’s Parish ministry, please contact Fr. Brian at least two weeks before the requested date.
St. Luke’s School Golf Tournament...Don’t get to play as much golf as you used to or would like to? Afraid that your game has gotten a little “rusty”? We have the perfect solution. Join us for the 11th Annual
St. Luke’s School Golf
Tournament. It is a SCRAMBLE format, so it is perfect for all ages and stages of golfers! Saturday, June 9th at Triggs Memorial Golf Course in Providence. 8:00 a.m. Shotgun start followed by lunch and awards, so you will still have time to mow the lawn when you get home! $125 includes: breakfast, 18 holes of golf, cart, awards luncheon, gift bag. Can’t play? Be a SPONSOR! For more information call Kristen Green (447-1576) or Neil Kiely at St. Luke’s (246-0990). This is a wonderful combination school and parish event!
Diocesan Capital Campaign:
This is the second Commitment Weekend. If you took home the pledge envelope last weekend, or still have it from the mailing, please put it in the basket today
with your pledge. If you are making out a check, please remember to make it out to Grateful for God’s Providence, not St. Luke’s Church (the check will be returned to us). Remember, we will be receiving 40%
of whatever payments are made every quarter (60%
after goal) . We do not have to wait for the four
years, when the campaign ends, to receive our share.
