We express our love and sympathy to Reta MacMillian on the death of her son Billy and to the family of the late Bill MacNeil. We also express our love and sympathy to Bob, Barry, Lois, Bruce and families on the death of Ardella MacPhee. May God gently comfort all who grieve and sustain them with a spirit of peace in faith. During the Offering, those seated in the balcony are invited to move downstairs to pews on the main sanctuary floor in preparation for communion. COMMUNION AT THE RAIL Sharing the Sacrament of Communion You are invited to come forward by the centre aisle to receive communion at the rail and then return by the side aisles. At the conclusion of the sacrament, the elements will be carried into the congregation for any unable to come forward. 2017 Offering envelope boxes (and envelopes for PAR givers) are available in the Narthex and are filed alphabetically. Please help us save the cost of postage by picking up yours or your neighbours! If you don’t presently receive offering envelopes and would like to or would like to switch to PAR, please contact Lynne at the church office. January 29: Week of Prayer for Christian Unity Service 3:30pm

- a joint service with St George’s Anglican, St Andrews Presbyterian,

First Presbyterian, St John the Baptist Roman Catholic and Trinity

United Churches. The service will be held at St George’s Anglican

Church, with a reception to follow.

Theme: “Reconciliation – The Love of Christ Compels Us”

January 30: meeting 7pm for former Session members and all

interested in reviewing/voting on remits (changing policy for United

Church of Canada)

February 5: A Congregational Pot Luck will follow the 10am service. It will be held in the Auditorium and hosted by The Congregational Life and Hospitality Committee. This will be an old fashioned potluck, bring what you want! (In order to be respectful of those with food allergies please do not bring foods with nuts, peanut butter, seafood or fish.)

It’s a new year and that means that all committees and groups should start working on their reports for the annual report. They can be emailed to [email protected]. Deadline is FEBRUARY 1 to give us time to print, assemble and distribute prior to the Annual Meeting on February 19. Please help us by getting

your reports in as early as you possibly can.

February 25: Coldest Night of the Year (CNOY) This is a fundraiser in the

form of a walk-a-thon that takes place in Pictou County each year to raise

funds to fight homelessness locally. In 2017 these funds will support the

work of Pictou County Roots for Youth.

The small candle on the Communion Table is our “Peace Candle.”

It shines to remind us that as Christians we are called to pray and work for peace.
