• Every 6.5 seconds, someone in the world dies from a smoking-related disease.

• Every day, about 3,900 youth ages 12 to 17 try a cigarette for the first time.

• Circulatory System– Makes the heart work harder, speeds up pulse– Constricts blood vessels (cuts off circulation)– Nicotine contributes to plaque build-up in blood

vessels (arteriosclerosis)– Raises blood pressure– All of these factors contribute to a higher risk of

stroke and heart attack.

• Passive smoke= Mainstream + Sidestream smoke

• Causes eye irritation, headaches, coughing, ear infections, asthma attacks

• Kills almost 4,000 people per year
