1Project Description
• The City of Selkirk is enhancing the unique character of Manitoba Avenue East.
• Manitoba Avenue East (from Main Street to Eveline Street) will be reconstructed to include enhanced pedestrian and active transportation facilities, planters and additional street trees, seasonal patio locations, and two pocket parks complete with benches, public art, and activity space.
• In addition, one-way vehicle traffic will be converted to two-way vehicle traffic and angled parking will be changed to parallel parking.
• The new design will enhance the character of Manitoba Avenue East, promote the area as a pedestrian and bicycle friendly destination, and improve the quality of public spaces along the street.
2Project Background
• The City formed a stakeholder advisory committee in 2012. From there, ideas were generated, a vision was born, and the new design for Manitoba Avenue East is the product of the work that has been done since then.
• The City is now working with WSP, an engineering and planning firm, to enhance the unique character of Manitoba Avenue East and improve the pedestrian and cycling environment.
• Throughout the project, WSP will work with the City to refine the current design concept for Manitoba Avenue East, meet with local landowners, business owners, and community residents to seek feedback, and provide on-site management during the reconstruction period.
• The reconstruction period will take place June through October of 2019.

Parking Management Plan
• Based on feedback already received, parking improvements will be incorporated into this project.
• We will be working with business owners and residents to assist us in identifying better practices in order to improve parking availability in the downtown area.
• The City of Selkirk will complete a parking management plan for the area to determine how to best manage parking.
• There are currently 241 off-street parking spaces in six City owned lots within a two minute walk or less to Manitoba Avenue East.
• The design for Manitoba Avenue East will have approximately 42 on-street parking spaces upon completion of the project. There are currently approximately 73 on-street spaces.

• Public input from the open house will be shared with the Design Team.
• Project and construction updates will be communicated directly with Manitoba Avenue East business owners and landowners and shared with the public on the project webpage. If you would like to receive construction activity updates, please subscribe to the City of Selkirk’s notification system at MySelkirk.ca/MyDowntown.
• Contract administration documents for Manitoba Avenue East will be prepared and presented for tender. Construction is anticipated to begin in June 2019.
