St. Paul speaks of that better life in reference to the new covenant which has been made possible through the cross. St. Paul said, “May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Gal. 6:14-18) This is the message that Jesus gave to the seventy-two whom he ap-pointed and sent out in pairs to every town and village. Jesus said, “The harvest is abundant, but the laborers are few.” (Luke 10:1-9) The Seventy-Two were migrants themselves, after all how else could the Christian faith spread out throughout the world so quickly. They evan-gelized by bringing the peace of Christ throughout the world. “Whatever house you enter first say, Peace to this household.” As migrants for the faith we take that mes-sage of peace to all people, it brings us to the southern border of the United States where we offer peace. It brings us to modern day Israel and the Middle East where we bring the peace of Christ to all households. As Christian people we must recognize that our heritage is the legacy of migration, often times forced migration, that is how the pilgrims landed here, in search of a life of peace. We are all Migrants for Christ!

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, The most difficult and challenging issue facing our nation today is undocumented immigration. This issue is not easily resolved especially because we are a na-tion founded on life, liberty and the persuit of happi-ness. People for more than 240 years have come to our shores and borders seeking a better life. I believe the American people want to provide that dream to all who want a better life for their families and them-selves. Those who are coming to our boarders can not simply be defined as illegal aliens or undocumented immigrants, they are rather forced migrants. These forced migrants in many cases have no choice but to leave their homes and seek a better life. They are flee-ing violence, gangs, drug cartels, poverty and hunger, and nations whose governments are often corrupt. The journey north which so many of these people make is dangerous and life threatening, but it is a journey many are willing to risk because they feel they have no choice. Like the migrants on our southern border, there is an-other people who also have found themselves through-out their history as being forced migrants. The Jewish people have found themselves time and time again into forced migration. The descendants of Abraham found themselves having to migrate to Egypt in search of a better life. Those same people who became known as the Israelites would migrate from Egypt to escape slav-ery and death. Their migration led them into the desert in search of the promised land, a land flowing with milk and honey. They were given the land by God as an outward sign of the covenant with Israel. They lost the land when they were torn from land and sent into forced migration to the land of the Babylon. They did not want to leave their homes, but they had no choice. They lived in hope that one day they would be able to return home to the land God had given them. The prophet Isaiah gave them reason to hope, “Rejoice with Jerusalem and be glad because of her, all you who love her, exult, exult with her.” (Isaiah 66:10-14) Isaiah tells the people of Israel who were placed into forced migration that they will be provided the milk of comfort from God and God will spread prosperity over Jerusalem. They will have something to return home to, a better life. After all that is what all people throughout history have wanted.

2019 BISHOP’S APPEAL We are in the midst of the 2019 Bishop’s Appeal. We have gotten off to a very good start and I want to thank everyone who has pledged. We will continue the Bishop’s Appeal Campaign throughout the month of June. You will find en-velopes and pencils at the end of each row. You can place your envelope in the regular collection, or you can mail it in or drop it off at the Parish Office. Your support is greatly appreciated in helping us meet our assessed goal for the 2019 Bishop’ Appeal.

PASTORAL COUNCIL

The Pastoral Council of St. Jude the Apostle is pleased to welcome four new members. Santino Bonanni joined our Council late last year, Randy Moore, Varsha Joseph, and Joe Tenzyk will all begin their terms in September. The alternates are : Mary Jacob and Kate Rodriguez. They will fill future opening on the Pastoral Council as they become available. The Council will meet in the coming weeks for a further discernment for the new Pastoral Council Leader-ship (President, Vice President and Secretary) Fr. Ligato will call the Council together for this Discernment Process in August. Please remember that these people represent your voice in the parish. This ministry serves as an advisory group to Father Anthony and members are always willing to listen and take your ideas to the Council.

St. Jude the Apostle Church provides the opportunity for a sanctuary votive candle intention. This intention is the same cost as a mass intention. The sanctuary candle is in memory of a particular person. It will appear weekly at the top of the daily mass intention in the bulletin. Nicholas Ascioti and Martin Dinan have assigned to St. Jude the Apostle Church and St. Michael the Archangel Church for their Pastoral Placement for the next year. They will be Acolyting at Masses, offering reflections on the scriptures following Communion, serving in all areas of ministry in both parishes as they prepare to be ordained Deacons in May of 2020.

Welcome our new Parochial Vicar

Fr. Zachariah (Zach) Chichester has been named the new Parochial Vicar (Associate Pastor) for St. Jude the Apostle Church and St. Michael the Archangel Church by Bishop Edward B. Scharfenberger. Fr. Chichester will assist me as Pastor, and he will live with me in the Rectory for both par-ishes. He is a native of Columbia County and was ordained to the Priesthood in 2018 and he has just completed an ad-vanced degree in Marriage and Family. Fr. Chichester will begin his assignment July 1, 2019. Please give a warm wel-come to Fr. Chichester.

This is our local food pantry that aids our community members. The needs of those who are struggling never diminish. Please give generously to help our community pantry pro-vide food and personal care items to those in

need. Suggested items needed are: pancake mix, syrup, cereal, canned pasta/,meat, meat meals, shampoo, bar

soap and feminine products are in dire need .

TEAM PATHWAYS

Teen Pathways (grades 7-10) is the High School Ministry Program for St. Jude the Apostle Parish. Teens wishing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation must be involved in the program for a minimum of two years in grades 9th & 10th. If attending a Catholic School, you are required to attend for one year in 10th grade. Registration for next year is online using the link below. PARISH NURSE PROGRAM

School is out of session which means many children will be outside all day. Keep vigilant if you see a ball in the street-there might be a child nearby waiting to fetch it. Re-member-pedestrians have the right of way at the crosswalk-that means drivers must yield to those in the cross walk. Please make sure your child wears a Helmut EVERY time they are on their bikes or skateboards. Safety first!
