Peace and unity say IMF Newham at

Eid Dinner.

Some of the loudest applause was given to one of the youngest Councillors in the UK and IMF member, Cllr Firoza Nekiwala, who spoke of her pride at serv-

ing the community and joining hands with other communities in solidarity. Other messages of support to the community were conveyed by a stellar cast

that included, Rt. Hon Stephen Timms MP for East Ham, John Biggs London

Assembly Member, Sir Ghulam Noon MBE, Sonia Klein Managing Director of Islam Channel, Baroness Paula Uddin, Cllr Masood Ahmed Mayor of Waltham

Forest and local community leader Saeed Bhai Chunya.

The speeches were concluded at the end by IMF Newham Secretary and local Councillor, Salim Patel who told the crowd that the recent election victory

both for him and Councillor Firoza Nekiwala were down to community unity and solidarity over the past three years, and that is what the evening was

really about. The organisers were keen to stress that the Dinner was also about wider community unity and made an emotional appeal for Pakistan

Flood Relief donations. They also invited community leaders from Pakistani, Bangladeshi, African and English backgrounds along with people from the

Hindu, Sikh and Christian faiths to demonstrate that the IMF works with all sections of the community.

The Islamic Circles Supplementary School (ICSS) is an entirely volunteer run supplementary

school that operates in the London Borough of Newham, Tower Hamlets and Birmingham.

Our aim is not to replace but to supplement the work already being done by the local schools

by providing additional support in core curriculum subjects.

What sets us apart however, is that we also aim to be an integral part of the local

community as well as to provide active role

models for those around us.

Muslim Aid Calls For A Renewed Pledge to

Achieve the Millennium Development Goals

Muslim Aid has welcomed this week’s special

meeting of the UN General Assembly on the review

of the Millennium Development Goals and reiterated the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon’s

call for world leaders to “provide the necessary investment, aid and political will to end ex-

treme poverty.” World leaders have been urged to redouble their national efforts to fulfil their

promise of achieving the MDGs by 2015 and involve the NGO community to accelerate the

pace of development.

Commenting on the UN Summit, Chairman of Muslim Aid, Sir Iqbal Sacranie said: “With only

five years left to the realisation of MDGs we not only need to review the progress so far but

also strengthen our commitment towards achieving the eight anti-poverty goals by 2015.

Muslim Aid reaffirms its pledge and resolve to end global poverty through its programmes

that address the root causes of poverty and meet the challenge of combating disease, fight-

ing hunger, protecting the environment and making education accessible for all. In doing so,

Muslim Aid endeavours to provide a lifeline to millions of people worldwide, including those

living in the most vulnerable and fragile countries.”

Muslim Aid is committed to achieving the MDGs through a number of its key programmes

ranging from education for children and youth, microfinance schemes and income generation,

women empowerment through skills training and education and providing essential health

care in many of the poorest countries. Muslim Aid believes that these programmes, however,

need to be further encouraged through a concerted institutional funding and effort in order to

meet the MDGs in five years.

Despite the global economic downturn, the British public has been most generous in respond-

ing to the charity appeals of Muslim Aid for the Pakistan floods and for the humanitarian and

development programmes implemented by Muslim Aid Field Offices directly as well as

through its international partners in many countries.

How to deal with bitter criticism

Those who are ignorant have uttered curses at Allah, the Exalted, the Creator of ill that exists, so what treatment should we, who are full of faults, expect from people. You will always have to face criticism, which in its onslaught is like an interminable war: it shows no sign of ending. As long as you shine, give, produce, and have an effect upon others, then disapproval and condemnation will be your lot in life. Until you escape from people by finding a tunnel in the ground or a ladder leading to the sky, they will not desist from censuring you, from finding fault in your character. For that reason, as long as you are from the denizens of earth, expect to be hurt, to be insulted, and to be criticized. And here is something you should contemplate: a person who is sitting on the ground does not fall, and people do not kick a dead dog. Therefore their anger toward you can be attributed to you sur-passing them in righteousness, knowledge, manners, or wealth. In their eyes you are a transgressor whose wrongs cannot be atoned for unless you abandon your talents and strip yourself of all praise-worthy qualities, so that you become stupid, worthless, and to them, innocuous. This result is ex-actly what they want for you. So remain firm and patient when facing their insults and criticism. If you are wounded by their words and let them have an influence over you, you will have realized their hopes for them. In-stead, forgive them by showing them the most beautiful of manners. Turn away from them and do not feel distressed by their schemes. Their disapproval of you only increases you in worth and merit. Verily, you will not be able to silence them, but you will be able to bury their criticisms by turning away from them and dismissing what they have to say. `Perish in your rage '. (Qur 'an 3: 119) In fact, you will be able to increase them in their rage by increasing your merits and developing your talents. If you desire to be accepted by all and loved by all, you desire the unattainable.

Jamiah Madaniyah From the time Jamiah Madaniyah first opened its doors it has been commit-ted to one fundamental aim: providing a first class education to all its pupils. FC Catalans made their competitive debut against Ilford colts in the East London Essex league this week. They couldn't have asked for a better start. Dominant from minute one they seemed certain to score early. Captain Adam Polli found himself on the wrong end of the pitch one on one with the goalkeeper only to be denied by the post. The goalkeepers’ clear-ance failed to get any distance striking Talha Patel on the back for the boys in yellow to take the lead. The game settled with Ilford colts start-ing to look more and more threatening. A Catalan attack was broken down and colts worked their way down the left flank. A harsh challenge

by Abid Patel gave a free kick in a dangerous area which was put away delightfully. Catalans kept their calm and battled away. a swift move in midfield was brilliantly finished by Vinesh. He made no mistake in placing the ball in the top right corner. With the lead back, and confidence now in every player, the yellow and red army started playing proper football. Working down the left wing Yusuf and Mo Shareef worked the ball into the box. Mo was taken out and referee had no choice but to point to the spot. Up stepped Vinesh to score his second of the game and Catalans 3rd. With half time approaching the boys looked very comfortable only to concede with practically the last kick of the half. The ball floated in the air and seemed to be floating into the net, but Yasin Ali got his fin-gers to the ball but could only manage to tip it onto the bar and the rebound fell to an Ilford player to make it 3-2. The second half was more of the same from Catalans. They continued to press and dominated the second half. Vinesh completed his hat trick after brilliant play by Zinho and Minhaz wrapped the game up with a simple tap in. In the end the better team won. Ruudy and his boys are 3points from 3. The message has been sent to the rest of the league.

The last thing APSA needed was

thirty minutes of extra time in this

first round FA VASE match, but that

is what they got after the scores

ended 1-1 at 90 minutes.

Having only played 48 hours earlier,

APSA were suffering more injures

with; Lee, Callaway, Chuck and Ere-

kosima all injured and Simmons,

Bapu and Guest also missing for one

reason or another.

One positive note for Manager John

Higley was the return from suspen-

sion of Hind and Jamie Langton and

Tim Cole was back in the centre of

defence.

Apsa made a positive start to the

match, against a young Sandhurst

side and dominated the first forty

five minuses, restricting the visitors

to half chances on the break.

But the home fans had to wait until

the 19th minute to see the first goal

and what a goal it was. Scott won a

free kick just outside the box, and

up stepped Gavin Toussani, who

produced a superb shot that curled

round the wall and into the back of

the next. It was one of the best free

kicks ever to be seen at the Terence

Two minutes later APSA nearly

extended the lead, when a long

ball from Houghton, had Scott

flying through the air for an at-

tempted diving header which just

eluded him and Agov in the visi-

tor’s goal collected the ball easily.

On the half hour Apsa

got another free kick just outside

the area but this time more cen-

tral to the previous kick, and with

everyone waiting to see what

Toussani would produce now, he

fooled every one by letting Scott

take the kick. But his shot did not

have the same venom and Agov

caught the ball easily.

The visitors who had made the

long journey from Berkshire,

started the second half more

positively, bringing their wide

men; Louis Hibbert on the right

and Dan Simmonds- who had an

exceptional second half, on the

right. The two wingers started to

worry the APSA defence and in

the 52nd minute, Jamie Langton,

playing at right back, brought

down Simmonds inside the box.

Steve Brown made a great save

from James Mepham’s spot kick

to keep APSA’s slender lead. But

10 mins later the forward made

amends, when after another Sim-

monds run down the left, he got

his foot to the low cross to level

the scores.

APSA were left to create chances

on the break, a reversal of for-

tunes from the first half, but the

APSA forwards did not get any

breaks from the match officials as

time and again Scott, Houghton

and Toussani were called back by

the lines man flag.

The visitors nearly snatched the

game in between the APSA

chances with good chances of

their own, with shots and headers

that went over the bar, wide of

the post or saved by Brown.

As extra time began, the

home supporters were very un-

sure of how their team would

cope as the momentum had

clearly swung to the visitors. But

the APSA of 2010-11 that John

Higley and his coaching staff are

building are made of sterner stuff,

who refuse to accept defeat.

They began extra time more posi-

tively and in the 100th minute

were rewarded once more when

that man Toussani, swung in a

superb left footed free kick

which was met by the head of

Tim Cole, who’s’ powerful header

Sandhurst made their last subis-

"What a great result. The teams

desire to win is astounding,

John's got these players into a

mode of not losing and long may

it continue. The spirit in the camp

is very good and even though we

were vastly under strength with

injuries and suspensions, we

pulled of a fantastic result for the

club.

It was a really wonderful day as

73 parents and children from our

youth teams were also present at

the leisure centre. Enjoying train-

ing and a small penalty competi-

tion at the stadium. Was an ex-

cellent day out for them and a

great motivator to start off their

league season in the East London

and Essex League.
