Hi from Nat’l. Chevy, I don’t know about the rest of the country but June for us has been nothing but rain. Our big “Back to the 50’s” show is this weekend and it sounds like a pretty rainy Friday, but maybe some sun for Saturday and Sun-day. Hope for the best. It’s a good thing we ordered a tent. I hope the weather at Iola is at least dry, but we or-dered a tent for that show too. If it rains that much no one shows up anyway. Other than the weather we have been busy. Paul is still working on a ’53 Hardtop, but I wouldn’t expect it to be done too soon. Our granddaughter graduated and is ready to begin college in the fall. Business has been steady, thank goodness, and we are working on some new stuff as usual. Next weekend Paul is heading to a car auction (unrestored) and I’m hoping he doesn’t find too many to drag home. My yard has enough in it already. Please help with some pictures and stories about your car. I’m out and my only request would be that you send actual photos, not discs. Time to go – time to load for the show. ‘Til next time……..

Tech Help from Vern Worley

I have a 1953 Chevy 2103 210 4-dr. Sedan. I purchased a kit to replace the brake lines, and ran into problems. Hopefully this info will help others. The Master Cylinder is held in by (2) 3/8” bolts, one 3 1/4” long, the other 1 1/4” long. Both are probably 28 thread per inch, without flat or lock washer. The two bolts can be replaced with stainless 16 thread (coarse), so add lock washers but the 3 1/4” needs to be replaced with 3 1/2” since 3” is too short and 3 1/4” is not available. There is also a 3/8” thick, 28 thread bolt, 1 1/4” long, holding down the brass box underneath the front passenger seat to the frame. Shown in red are the approximate lengths of the brake lines, all of which are 3/16” in diameter except for one which is 1/4” (heavy red line). The heavy black lines indicate brake hoses of equal length and diameter and in fact are interchangeable. The orange rectangles are the brass box fittings, which are expensive for their size if one is broken (I didn’t). However, I did snap the spring from the master cylinder to the brake pedal lever and replaced it, which is called a “brake pedal return spring.”

Cover Car

The National Chevy Assoc.: I’m sending some pictures of my 1950 Chevy to hopefully have in your Parts-Line newsletter. It is a 2-dr. custom that was going to be crushed when I got it. I totally rebuilt the whole car from top to bottom. It has a ‘69 Camaro front sub-frame, with power steering and power disc brakes, 1982 350 stock eng., 350 turbo trans., ‘72 Chevelle rear end body mods: shaved and decked, ‘57 Chevy headlights, ‘56 Dodge Royale 2-piece grille, front and rear bumpers are molded to body, top has been chopped 3 1/2 inches in front and 4 inches in rear. It has ‘54 Buick rear quarter panels with ‘59 Caddy tail lights frenched in, ‘78 Caddy continental kit, ‘78 Olds tilt steering column, ‘51 Mercury skirts, dummy side pipes and dummy sports. All work was done by me, paint and flames were painted by me. White paint is ‘79 Corvette oyster white. I look forward to seeing it in your newsletter.

Thank you very muchBill TibbettLafayette, INA ‘49 to ‘54 Chevy Lover
