     YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO:

    Install a blank fire attachment on the M60.

    Load and f i re b lank ammuni t ion .

    Complete DA Form 2402.

    Zero the M60 machine gun (See TM9-1005-24-101.

    If you can not do all these tasks ask your NC0 or instructor to show you how.

    When you can do all the tasks, go on to the next page.

    M60 machine gun operators also wear a Man Worn Laser Detector (MWLD) assembly.

    Instruct ions for using the MWLD found in   TM9-1265-370-10-1.

    The M60/MILES can be operated in temperatures from -35°C (-31ºF) to 62ºC

    (144°F) . I t p e r m i t s t a c t i c a l s k i l l s t o b e p r a c t i c e d u n d e r r e a l i s t i cc o n d i t i o n s .

    The l as e r t rans m i t t e r s ends ha rm les s , invisible laser (light) beams toward the

    ta rge t . I f t he l as e r beam h i t s t he ta rge t , de tec to r as s emb l i es on the ta rge t

    sense the beam, an cause an a larm to sound. In addi t ion, i f the target is a

    v e h i c l e , a n e x t e r n a l l y - m o u n t e d l i g h t ( C V K I ) o n t h e v e h i c l e w i l l f l a s h .

    How it Works

    The M60 /MILES wo rk s muc h l i k e a rea l M60 mac h ine gun . Howev e r , i n s tead o f

    The targets wear Man Worn Laser Detectors (MWLD) equipped with laser detector 

    as s emb l i es and a la rms . W h e n a l a s e r b e a m f r o m a t r a n s m i t t e r s t r i k e s a

    s ol d ie r 's M WL D, a n a l ar m s o un d s. T o s h u t o f f t h e a l a r m , t h e s o l d i e r m u s t

    remove the ye l low key f rom h is weapon t ransmi t te r and pu t i t in to a recep tac le

    on his MWLD. Wi th the k ey remov ed f rom the t rans m i t t e r , i t w i l l no t ope ra te .

    R e m o v i n g t h e w e a p o n s ' c a p a b i l i t y t o f i r e a l a s e r b e a m s i m u l a t e s a c o m b a t

    "kil l".

    The M60/MILES operator wears a harness equipped with a laser detector assemblyan d a l a r m . I f o pp os in g f o r ce s f i re a MILES-equipped weapon at you, the

    M60/MILES operator, one of two things wil l happen:

    • Your MWLD alarm sounds for one second. Tak e c ov e r ; a "nea r m is s "has been scored on you.

    • Your a larm sounds cont inuous ly . Y o u h a v e b e e n " k i l l e d " . Use your ye l low M60 weapon key to shu t o f f the a la rm.

    Onc e the a la rm s ounds , the weapon key must be le f t in the MWLD assembly

    harness. I f i t i s r e m o v e d , t h e a l a r m w i l l s o u n d c o n t i n u o u s l y . W i t h t h e

    weapon k ey remov ed f rom the t rans m i t t e r o f t he M60 /MILES , i t w i l l no l onge r  

    ope ra te .

    How The M60 MILES Is Used:

     A f t e r t he M60 / MILES t rans m i t t e r and MWLD hav e been i ns t a l l ed and t es t ed , y ouw i l l b e r e a d y f o r t h e t r a i n i n g e x e r c i s e .

    • To beg in , a t tach a b lank - f i re a t tachment and load the M60 w i th b lankammunit ion.

    • Turn the t ransmit ter ye l low weapon key to the ON pos i t ion.

    •  Aim and f ire. The laser transmit ter wi l l operate unti l you run outo f b lank ammun i t ion .

    Limitations of Equipment:

    The M60 l as e r t rans m i t t e r has the s ame range and ope ra t i ona l c apab i l i t i e s as

    t h e M 6 0 m a c h i n e g u n , b u t a d i r t y l a s e r t r a n s m i t t e r l e n s m a y r e d u c e t h e

    e f f e c t i v e r a n g e o f t h e t r a n s m i t t e r . T h e M 6 0 / M I L E S t r a n s m i t t e r w i l l " k i l l " o u t

    to a range o f 800 me te rs , and p rov ides s upp res s i v e f i r e i n t he fo rm o f " nea r  

    miss" indications to a range of 1100 meters.

     Align the Transmitter

    use the SAAF al ignment target, you must:

    • Set up the target at a range of 25 meters from the firing point.

    1 . Install three BA-200/U batteries.

    2 . Turn Power Switch ON.

    3. Set Weapon Switch to M60.
