INTRODUCTION
1. ScopeThis manual list basic issue items, repair parts,
special tools and equipment required for theperformance of organizational maintenance of the M14Rifle (National Match) and M14 Rifle (M).
2. GeneralThe Basic Issue Items, Repair Parts and Special
Tools List are divided into the following sections:a. Basic Issue Items-Section II. A list of items
which accompany the Rifle, M14, NM or

M14(M) and are required by the operator for installation,operation, or maintenance.
b. Maintenance and Operating Supplies-Section III.A listing of maintenance and operating supplies requiredfor initial operation.
c. Prescribed Load Allowances (PLA). Notapplicable.
d. Repair Parts-Section IV. A list of repair partsauthorized for the performance of maintenance at theorganizational level, in figure and item numbersequence.
e. Special Tools and Equipment— Section V. A listof special tools authorized for the performance ofmaintenance at the organizational level.
f. Federal Stock Number and Reference NumberIndex— Section VI. A list of Federal stock numbers inascending numerical sequence, followed by a list ofreference numbers appearing in all the listings, inascending alpha-numeric sequence, cross referenced tothe illustration figure number and item number.3. Explanation of Columns
The following provides an explanation of columnsin the tabular lists in Sections II, IV, and V.
a. Source, Maintenance, and RecoverabilityCodes (SMR).
(1) Source Code. Indicates the selectionstatus and source for the listed item. Source codes are:
Code ExplanationA Applied to assemblies which are not
procured or stocked as such but aremade up of two or more units, each ofwhich carry individual stock numbersand descriptions and are procuredand stocked and can be assembled byunits at indicated maintenancecategories.
C Applied to repair parts authorized forlocal procurement. If not obtainablefrom local procurement, such repairparts will be requisitioned throughnormal supply channels with asupporting statement ofnonavailability from localprocurement.
P Applied to repair parts which arestocked in or supplied from Armysupply system.
X1 Applied to repair parts which are notprocured or stocked the requirement
for which will be supplied by use ofnext higher assembly or component.
(2) Maintenance Code. Indicates the lowestcategory of maintenance authorized to install the listeditem. The maintenance level codes are:
(3) Recoverability Code. Indicates whetherunserviceable items should be returned for recovery orsalvage. Items not coded are expendable.Recoverability code is:
Code ExplanationR Applied to repair parts and assemblies
which are economically reparable andare furnished by supply on an exchangebasis.
b. Federal Stock Number. Indicates the Federalstock number assigned to the item and will be used forrequisitioning purposes.
c. Description. Indicates the Federal item nameand any additional description of the item required. Theabbreviation "w/e" when used as a part of thenomenclature indicates the Federal stock numberincludes all armament, equipment, accessories, andrepair parts issued with the item. A part number or otherreference number is followed by the applicable five digitFederal supply code for manufacturer in parentheses.
d. Unit of Measure (U/M). A 2 character alphabeticabbreviation indicating the amount or quantity of theitem, upon which the allowances are based, e.g., ft, ea,pr, etc.
e. Quantity Incorporated in Unit. Indicates thequantity of the item used in an assembly or group.
f. Quantity Furnished with the Equipment.Indicates the quantity of an item furnished with theequipment (BIIL only).
g. 15-Day Organizational Maintenance Allowances.Indicates the total quantity of an item required to be onhand and necessary for maintenance of the equipment.Items to be requisitioned, as required, are indicated byan asterisk.
h. Illustration.(1) Figure Number. Indicates the figure
number of the illustration in which the item is shown.(2) Item Number. Indicates the callout number
used to reference the item in the illustration.

A list, in alphabetical sequence, of items required bythe operator for sustained operation of the end item.These discretionary items will be requisitioned by theunit in accordance with its mission requirements. Theymay accompany the end item, but are not subject to beturned in with it.
c. Repair Parts List-Section IV. A list of repairparts authorized at the organizational level for theperformance of maintenance, with the parts listed infigure and item number sequence. The illustrations alsoinclude parts which must be removed for replacement ofauthorized parts.
d. Special Tools List - Section V. A list of specialtools, test and support equipment authorized for theperformance of maintenance at the organizational level.
e. Federal Stock Number and Reference NumberIndex - Section VI. A list, in ascending numericalsequence, of all Federal stock numbers appearing in thelistings, followed by a list, in alpha-numeric sequence, ofall reference numbers appearing in the listings. Federalstock numbers are cross-referenced to each illustrationfigure and item number appearance.Page 2. Paragraphs 3c, d, e, f, and g are superseded asfollows:
c. Description. Indicates the Federal item nameand minimum description required to identify the item.The last line indicates the reference number followed bythe applicable Federal supply code for manufacturer(FSCM) in parentheses. The FSCM is used as anelement in item identification to designate manufacturer,distributor, or Government agency, etc., and is identifiedin SB 708-42.
d. Unit of Measure (U/M). Indicates the standardor basic quantity by which the listed item is used

in performing the actual maintenance function. Thismeasure is expressed by a two-character alphabeticalabbreviation, e.g., ea, in, pr., etc. and is the basis usedto indicate quantities. When the unit of measure differsfrom the unit of issue, the lowest unit of issue that willsatisfy the required units of measure will berequisitioned.
e. Quantity Furnished with Equipment (Basis IssueItems Only).Indicates the quantity of the item furnishedwith the equipment.
f. Quantity Authorized (Items Troop Installed orAuthorized Only).Indicates the quantity of
the item authorized to be used with the equipment.f.1 Quantity Incorporated in Unit. Indicates the

b. Federal Stock Number, Column 2. Indicates theFederal stock number assigned to the item and will beused for requisitioning purposes.
c. Description, Column 3. Indicates the item nameand brief description.
d. Quantity Required for Initial Operation, Column 4.Indicates the quantity of each maintenance or operatingsupply item required for initial operation of theequipment (M & O supplies only).
5. Special Informationa. Since all items are authorized and repaired at
Organizational level, there is no maintenance allocationchart furnished.

6. How to Locate Repair Partsa. When Federal stock number or reference
number is unknown:(1) First. Using the table of contents determine
the functional group or assembly, within which the repairpart belongs. This is necessary since illustrations areprepared for functional groups and assemblies, andlistings are divided into the same groups.
(2) Second. Find the illustration covering thefunctional group or assembly to which the repair partbelongs.
(3) Third. Identify the repair part on theillustration and note the illustration, figure and itemnumber of the repair part.
(4) Fourth. Using the Repair Parts Listing, findthe functional group or assembly to which the repair partbelongs and locate the illustration figure and itemnumber noted on the illustration.
b. When the Federal stock number or referencenumber is known:
(1) First. Using the Index of Federal StockNumbers and Reference Numbers, find the pertinentFederal stock number or reference number. This indexis in ascending FSN sequence followed by a lists ofreference numbers in alpha-numeric sequence, cross-referenced to the illustration figure number and itemnumber.
(2) Second. Using the Repair Part Listing, findthe assembly or group of the repair part and the -illustration figure number and item number referenced inthe Index of Federal Stock Numbers and ReferenceNumbers.
