www.teachingquality.org
Content Strands (January – April 2015) Choose one of the following:
Common Core, focused on not only sharpening the alignment of your own teaching with the new standards, but preparing you to lead other teachers’ shifts in practice through better facilitation of PLCs, use video-based tools to share expertise among classrooms and schools, develop effective professional learning for colleagues, and advocate for effective teaching and learning through the standards; School redesign, considering all the ways we can (and should) transform schools to promote teaching and learning of 21st century skills. This strand includes discussion of designing and implementing programs like more and better learning time (MBLT), other innovative ways of “re-using” existing resources and staff in schools, and even laying the groundwork to plan your own teacher-powered school; and Teaching evaluation, which covers research-based approaches to designing evaluations, considerations for implementing them successfully, and tools for understanding and communicating systems that can sometimes be very complex, technical, and hard to grasp. Equity, diversity, and cultural competence (under development now!)

General TLI Tips and Strategies
TEACHER LEADERSHIP INITIATIVE 13
Know now that a lot of information will be flowing. Prepare yourself. Read emails and participant guides very carefully. Try very hard to NEVER skim information. Take the time to read carefully and make notes about the content. Next semester, pay very close attention to time zones, as your learning strand cohort will consist of participants across the nation. Create a TLI calendar for yourself. Post dates for face-to-face meetings, pre-work, webinars and videoconferences (Zoom), post-work, and other TLI related work for your capstone. Your VCO will be surveying you soon to set all dates for the work this semester. Create a special TLI folder in your email. All TLI emails will have “TLI: subject” in the subject line. This will help you stay on track. Get to know leaders and members of your cohort. Find ways to connect to one another and build relationships. Your experience in TLI will be a great one, especially when you put in the time necessary to build these lasting connections.
Break Out Room: TEACHER LEADERSHIP INITIATIVE 14
Remind everyone to read the facilitation guide VERY carefully. And be SURE to read BEFORE your scheduled leader meeting. Reminder to last year’s leaders: Changes have been made to the curriculum. USE YEAR TWO MATERIALS. DO NOT USE MATERIALS FROM YEAR ONE. If you don’t have access to the Google Drive of materials, send [email protected] your Google account email so she can give you access. Schedule a leader meeting time to get your cohort ready for launch. Start on these items in Break Out Rooms tonight and finish at your scheduled meeting.
• Set procedure for weekly emails to cohort (facilitator will administer) • Set procedure for surveying cohort to set webinar/videoconference dates and
times (VCO will administer) • Set procedure for attendance and participation for all pre-work, webinars, post-
work, and F2F meetings (Coaches will administer) • Identify guests for webinars (Facilitator will administer, will need help from
coaches for first webinar)
Weekly memos to your cohort should include current work (pre-work or post-work), links to threads in your cohort lab (Collaboratory), dates/times/links to webinars or videoconferences.
More Leader Reminders: TEACHER LEADERSHIP INITIATIVE 15
A Blackboard practice room is available for all leaders. Use all semester as needed! Moderator Link: Join the Blackboard Collaborate session Guest Link: https://sas.elluminate.com/m.jnlp?sid=2009343&password=M.C3B968B48C6AEC261BE5A7D2827BC4
Don’t forget to record all sessions. When I create your sessions, I will provide a link for the recording. Fortunately, Blackboard automatically generates the recording with that link provided. Once VCOs have dates for each webinar and meeting, please post them here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1BBSho88EcB90Evm2OD1ds1JayAizSagz3MbDFf6oU3s/edit#gid=0 I will generate your webinar and links to recordings on this Google Doc. So this is where you will need to check to give the correct link to your cohort. You can share both the link to the webinar and the recording link at the same time.
