SAFETY: It s mportant that the operator s aware of, and understands, hazards common to the operaton of any transcever.

u EXPLOSIVE ATMOSPHERES (GASES, DUST, FUMES, etc.)

Turn OFF your transcever whle takng on fuel or whle parked n gasolne servce statons. Do not carry spare fuel contaners n the trunk of your vehcle f your transcever s mounted n the trunk area.

u INJURY FROM RADIO FREQUENCY TRANSMISSIONS

Do not operate your transcever when somebody s ether standng near to or touchng the antenna, to avod the possblty of rado frequency burns or related physcal njury.

u DYNAMITE BLASTING CAPS

Operatng the transcever wthn 500 feet (150 m) of dynamte blastng caps may cause them to explode. Turn OFF your transcever when n an area where blastng s n progress, or where “TURN OFF TWO-WAY RADIO” sgns have been posted. PRECAUTIONS

Observe the following precautions to prevent fire, personal injury, and transceiver damage.• Do not attempt to configure the transceiver while driving; it is too dangerous.• Do not dsassemble or modfy the transcever for any reason.• Do not expose the transcever to long perods of drect sunlght, nor place t near heatng

applances.• If an abnormal odor or smoke s detected comng from the transcever, swtch the

transcever power off mmedately, and contact your Kenwood dealer.• Use of the transceiver while you are driving may be against traffic laws. Please check

and observe the vehcle regulatons n your area.• Do not use options not specified by Kenwood.

u The transcever operates n 12 V negatve ground systems only! Check the battery polarty and voltage of the vehcle before nstallng the transcever.

u Use only the suppled DC power cable or a Kenwood optonal DC power cable.u Do not cut and/or remove the fuse holder on the DC power cable.

For passenger safety, nstall the transcever securely usng the suppled mountng bracket and screw set so the transcever wll not break loose n the event of a collson.

PREPARATION

Varous electronc equpment n your vehcle may malfuncton f they are not properly protected from the rado frequency energy whch s present whle transmttng. Typcal examples nclude electronc fuel njecton, ant-skd brakng, and cruse control. If your vehcle contans such equpment, consult the dealer for the make of vehcle and enlst hs/her ad n determnng f they wll perform normally whle transmttng.

n Power Cable Connection

The transcever operates n 12 V negatve ground systems only! Check the battery polarty and voltage of the vehcle before nstallng the transcever.

1 Check for an existing hole, conveniently located in the firewall, where the power cable can be passed through.• If no hole exsts, use a crcle cutter to drll a hole, then nstall a rubber grommet.

2 Run the power cable through the firewall and into the engine compartment.3 Connect the red lead to the postve (+) battery termnal and the black lead

to the negatve (–) battery termnal.• Place the fuse as close to the battery as possble.

4 Col the surplus cable and secure t wth a retanng band.• Be sure to leave enough slack n the cables so the transcever can be removed

for servcng whle keepng the power appled.

n Installing the Transceiver

For passenger safety, nstall the transcever securely usng the suppled mountng bracket and screw set, so the transcever wll not break loose n the event of a collson.

Note: Before nstallng the transcever, check how far the mountng screws wll extend below the surface. When drllng mountng holes, be careful not to damage vehcle wrng or parts.

1 Mark the poston of the holes n the dash, usng the mountng bracket as a template. Usng a 4.2 mm (5/32 nch) drll bt, drll the holes, then attach the mountng bracket usng the suppled screws.• Mount the transceiver within easy reach of the user and where there is sufficient

space at the rear of the transcever for cable connectons.

2 Connect the antenna and the suppled power cable to the transcever.

3 Slde the transcever nto the mountng bracket and secure t usng the suppled hex-headed screws.

4 Mount the optonal mcrophone hanger n a locaton where t wll be wthn easy reach of the user.• The mcrophone and mcrophone cable should be mounted n a place where they

wll not nterfere wth the safe operaton of the vehcle.

When replacng the fuse n the DC power cable, be sure to replace t wth a fuse of the same value. Never replace a fuse wth one that s rated wth a hgher value.
